PSA: Unlock Boost REO Mobile Phone

Posting this for those who got the $20 Boost REO Mobile from this deal

After googling "Unlock Boost REO" came across this thread from 2019 and gave it a crack…

IT WORKS!!! Initially with Belong sim then with Kogan sim.

Thanks to the posters, especially pyr0maniac for the phone deal and kamoi's step-by-step unlocking. Used MediaTek Easy Root v1.0.2 from aaspk as the github link doesn't work anymore. No cables! Everything done on the phone, using its original charge! Wow!

    And, if you don't like Android Go, it is also possible to install LineageOS on this phone (https://forum.xda-developers.com/alcatel-1/development/alcat…). LineageOS 16 (Android Pie) and LineageOS 17 (Android 10) are both available. I'm currently running LineageOS 16 with GApps Nano, but will likely try upgrading to LineageOS 17 next weekend.

    In their current firmware updates MTK may now have patched the vunerability that
    enables Mediatek Easy Root to get root access. So, from the phone 'out of the box',
    attempt the network unlocking before doing any firmware updates. Once the STA33_004
    file has been replaced and the phone unlocked, firmware updates can then be done
    and the phone will remain unlocked.
