Honda HRV 2015 for first SUV?

Hi Guys,

I am looking at one of the Honda HRV 2015 full option with leather seats, paronamic sunroof and only done 45k kms. The owner who is our family friend bought it brand new at John Blair honda dealer and want to sell it around 20k to buy a Tesla car. Me and my wife had done the test drive and she love the car because the fact its really low kms and look totally brand new. I have done a reasearch online the Honda HRV has the CVT tranmission and some guys were reporting there was a failure even its low kms. Is anyone experience with this? i like the honda accord euro luxury 8th gen but my wife kinda like this car due to they have rear and reserve camera which is easy to park .

I don't get it, it's like this was written by an 8 year old, but you want to buy an 80 year old's car?

  • If you like it and it is priced in the same ballpark as others then buy it.

  • It's a spacious little SUV style car that utilises the Honda Jazz platform. Honestly it's not bad car and drives well.

The CVT would benefit from new fluid changes often as the old Honda CVT suffered issues from incorrect CVT fluid being added (a lot of the issues were mechanics using ATF instead of the CVTF) so keep that in mind as extra service costs if you want to keep the car a long time. (Regular CVTF change can add a few hundred $$ every 20-40000 km intervals)

8th gen Euro is a great car too! Also make sure people have changed the transmission oil and that you get a later year model to reduce the engine oil consumption issue (think fixed after 2011).

    • Agree on the Accord gearbox. Honda says change the oil at 100k IIRC but really it has to be a full flush with the Honda specific oil every 50k if you intend to keep the car way beyond 100k. If you can't full flush then start at 40k with a pan drain (1/3 total capacity) and repeat at 50k, & 60k then do it all again starting at 90k.

I'd buy a HRV as a run-around despite the CVT.
