Cleaning up My Backyard

Hi,

Imgur

I need to clean up this backyard on my rented property to make some space foe kids swing set.

Lawn mowing as I understand is simple, but I'm not sure how I'd go about removing this huge bush.

To be honest, I haven't mowed the lawn before, done any gardening before and I have no idea about the products / tools used for anything gardening related. But I do have a lot of time now with the lockdown in place to try it myself and I'm actually excited about it. Could someone please guide me what products, tools or machine hire do I need for this task?

Thanks

  • Something to cut it back and something to dig it out.

To cut it back use hedging shears or pruning clippers.

To dig it out probably need a spade and a mattock.

D handle spade to dig out the plant,
Rake up the leaves and mow

Don't remove any plant without approval from the owner/REA… No matter how shit it looks lol

    • Oh? Good point, didn't think about that cause yes .. it does look shit! :p

This. While you are waiting to find out whether you can dig up that plant, buy a rake, some garden gloves for pulling weeds and some grass seed.

If you are not sure how to remove the bush, how do you plan on putting together a swing set..?

    • Clearly post on ozbargain for tips on putting it together! :)

Give it a trim first then use wax for best results.

    • wax? A bunnings link would be great, thanks.

      • I don't think they're referring to the bush in the pic.

Can you fit the swing set without removing the bushes?

    my rented property

When you say my rented property, as in a place you pay rent to live in? If so, you need permission to REMOVE plants/bushes like that. It would be classed as part of the garden in the rental agreement and you will have to pay to 'make it right' when you move out.
