This isn't meant as a dig at a small producer but FWIW as someone who's made cold processed soaps for a number of yrs - using 100% coconut oil is something I'd be a bit wary of. When added to alkali's all oils have different properties - coconut tends to be very cleansing - so much so soap makers will recommend to use a maximum of 20-30% coconut oil to avoid a soap that is overly harsh on skin. The glycerin etc being left in doesn't in any way counter this as thats very normal with any small maker soaps, it's only the big co's who strip the glycerin from soaps to use in other products.

I'd like to think this maker has tested their product quite a bit to ensure it's properties are suitable but its very rare to see a recipe recommending 100% of any single oil, especially coconut.

No neg from me but just a heads up on this.

I haven't looked into the science of this but I've been using this soap for many years and I love it. It's exxy even when discounted so no plus from me but this, unscented, is my favourite soap.

    • May be he meant 100% pure, no contaminants in the oil but later mixed with other chemicals. If not it will be like bathing in coconut oil. Coconut oil is anyway used similar to hair gel though.

      • The coconut oil we use is 100% organic (we make it on-site in PNG and sell it for cooking as well), it is then saponifed with caustic soda to turn it into soap (chemical name - "sodium cocoate"). There are no other chemicals, caking agents etc. added so it is 100% pure soap. Pure essential oils are added for the scented varieties.

    • Thanks for the interest, we've been making this soap for about 20 years and have many happy customers in Australia/US/UK/NZ. The "harshness" will depend on the quality of the ingredients used and subjective to each person's preferences. Many people use it daily and love the lather - the only way to know for sure is to give it a go!
We are also quite proud of producing a great bar of soap from oil that we know the source - it is from the villages around our factory in PNG. No plantation coconuts and definitely no palm oil. Great for the environment and great for the local economy in a very rural area.

    • I have made my own CP soap for years and can back this up completely.

Also, nothing wrong with sustainable palm oil.

Tyler Durden's organic PNG cousin has entered the chat.

      • His name is Robert Paulson.

  • Do these soaps go bad or change over time? Only asking because I reckon this is 5 years of supply for just myself.

Keep them in a dry place and you'll have no problems. Works well as gifts or stocking stuffers too!
