i Just got charged the 249 fee ??

    • They charge then credit the amount back to you

      • When does it get credited back? Is it on the same statement?

        • +1

I contacted them about it, as i got charged the fee also.

They said it'll get credited alongside the QFF points 8-10 weeks after completing the $3000 spend.

So depending on how fast you make the qualifying spend, you may not see that credit before 2021.

          • @jlien: Makes sense.
Wish they would have been clearer about it in the documents.

Im half way to the 3k spend. Should be easy enough to get to

            • @SummerZero: same, i'm about 3/4 done so i'm not fussed.

    • me too.. i called and asked they should it would be processed 7-8 weeks.

    • Got my refund, not long after reaching the 3000 spend.

  • Received the fee also, I didn't get the amount back in credit though

    • +1

I received the $249 credit on Sep 22nd after spending 3k. I was charged the $249 fee on Sep 28th, but the 75k Qantas points are still pending.

      • yes same here i got the statement credit and then i got charged afterwards!

Cancelled my card today as I have received my QFF points and statement credit.
FYI you can cancel your card online under "card management" which saves you the hassle of a phone call.

    • What about lounge passes?

      • I haven’t cancelled mine either for that reason…might be waiting a few more months though!!

        • I would chat to them online to chase up. I received my invitations after two weeks of spending $1 on the qantas carbon emission site.

          • @lucyrenegade: So how did you spend $1 on carbon emissions, I can’t find the site?

  • Signed up for this around a month back and its my first time experience with a Amex card.
I shop at small sellers and buy my groceries from Aldi. Most of these places doesn't accept Amex. So I'm really struggling to reach the $2500 spend.
Any ideas how I can reach the limit? And also I'm in Melbourne which makes it harder.

    • +1

      It's $3000 spend though.
I paid my rates in advance, you could pay your phone bill in advance too.

I see the points are credited to my account and $249 credit too.
So I can cancel next month.

Btw: certain billers might not directly accept Amex, but you can go via postbill pay to pay with Amex.

MASSIVE THANKYOU! I was likewise struggling to find things to spend $3K on whilst in lockdown in Vic with all council rates, Vic roads etc. not accepting AMEX.

Wasn't aware of postbill bay, have just been able to pay rates with it and meet the 3K spend now :)

Will update thread how long it takes between meeting spend criteria 12/10/20 and receiving 75K points + $249 statement credit.

        • Hit Spend Requirement - 12/10/20
          $249 credit -13/10/20
          75K Bonus points - TBC

    • +1

Use PayPal to circumvent any vendors that don't accept AMEX directly online. Pay annual amounts for car rego/insurance/home & contents etc. Pay utility bills in advance if you're finding it hard to meet the spend. I've found it pretty easy so far but luckily I've had these things come up at the right time I suppose.

  • Got the statement credit and bonus points credited after three weeks of activation. Assume it was hitting the 3K? that triggered, so pretty fast which is good.

    • did the 75K points get credited in line with statement period? or did they come through outside of the monthly statement period being issued?

      • +1

My 2 cents: I can only comment on the regular points, which was exactly 1 week before the actual statement. And the statement comes 1 month after acceptance from AMEX.
It looks points are transferred 1 week before statement (and mentioned on the next statement).
Points earned in between that, will be credited the following month.
So if you earned the 75k >1 week before the statement, you'll have them before you get the statement.

  • Most council related rates don't take AMEX. Is post billpay a way of using AMEX to get past their visa/mastercard only accepted payments? Only learned about post billpay this week…

    • See also my comment above: "Btw: certain billers might not directly accept Amex, but you can go via postbill pay to pay with Amex."
      See also here

  • Further to my above comments:

When logging into Amex dahsboard where it shows statement balance, available credit etc. there is a box to the right stating: "Total Qantas points earned to date".

under that it's a figure above 75K and when I press view details shows list of transactions and at the line item which took me over 3K spend requirment there's 75,000 bonus points listed.

on my Qantas FF account however these points have not synced/updated yet.

Assume it's not safe to close the Amex untill points actually reach Qantas account? Assuming so are the points synced monthly?

    • +3

No, you have to wait until the points are in your Qantas account (which is 1 day after AMEX transfers them out).
You will see a negative points balance in AMEX ("QANTAS FREQUENT FLYER AUTO POINT TRANSFER").

For me timing was: Points transferred by AMEX on Monday, received Qantas on Tuesday (+1 day), Statement date was the Sunday after that (that's linked to your approval date).
So I'm assuming that 5 days before your statement, you'll be able to safely cancel (if your balance is paid back already and received by AMEX).

      Edit: added link inline.

      • Perfect, thanks so much for clarifying/confirming.

        Much appreciated!

  • Anyone know what the 30k “Credit card bonus” is on the QFF website? Got credited that a month ago, and recently the 75k points as well. Not complaining!

  • Does anyone know if I can use this to buy gift cards, i.e. Bunnings, Woolworths, etc.. and that still counts towards the $3K spend or will that void me from getting the bonus?

and in case i dont meet the spend, do I lose out on the $249 statement credit?

A bit harder for me to meet spend this time, council doesnt accept paypal nor amex

  • anyone still waiting on their statement credit and points? I reached the spend threshold early October but am yet to be credited

    • I just got the statement credit and reached the threshold about 2 weeks ago , points are also showing pending in the app

I don’t have any flights I need to book but want the lounge passes , what’s the cheapest thing I can buy to get the lounge passes ?

    • I also want to know, a comment above that I replied to said they spent “$1 on the qantas carbon emission site” but I can’t figure out how to do that?
