[PC] Classic Blizzard Games for Free: Blackthorne, Lost Vikings, Rock N' Roll Racing @ Blizzard

2945

Blizzard has made available some classic games for free for WIndows and Mac OS.

Refer to the article below from PC Mag for details.

https://au.pcmag.com/gaming-4/68019/the-best-free-pc-and-con…

"Some require you to connect with Battle.net and set up an account with Blizzard, while others may simply download to your computer and play locally. Here are the classic Blizzard games you can now play for free:

  • Blackthorne

  • The Lost Vikings

  • Rock N' Roll Racing"

PC Mag article doesnt seem correct as only the games above are free to play

  • 3 free games are still a deal (despite them being the games people weren't necessary wanting). Negs are unnecessary.

Does any of the Warcraft III work?

    • +1

Not working as it seems to require a CD key

  • Back in the days, I recall Warcraft was spread over 16 (1.44MB) floppy discs!
Back then, 16 disc was considered huge and by a fair margin!
Now we have games are are getting to 100GB :|

    • Cod MW is well over the 100GB mark. It's something stupid like 170GB

And they seem to love making you redownload the entire game when they release an update.

…. You've gotten to disk 15 of 16…all is hunky dory… Then you hear it change how its reading from the disk… Then you hear it try again… Then it throws up the can't read error… You take it out smack it flick the metal shield open n closed like it'll magically fix it…. Put it back in… Seems better….. Nope now your screwed.. Your only hope is if your friend has the game so you can try his disk 15! Or if you can prove to the store its not your fault its stuffed and they exchange it…

…. Some stupid part of me misses those days lolll like when you touch a bruise knowing itll hurt but u do it anyway..

Hahaha - that feeling when you hear "those" noises from your floppy drive and you know you're screwed…

      • Similar similar while trying to reinstall Windows 3.11.. you had to keep backup of your backups and then some because if this installation failed you were screwed bad.

        • +1

Lol it happened to me installing win 95, it was 26 floppies … one in the 20s was bad 😩

  • How do we claim these games? Just by logging in?

    • No need to login for Blackthorne and Lost Vikings. I didnt try Rock N' Roll Racing but i assume the same for it too

    Games not free.

The ones nobody wants sure are.

      • Not a blizzard game but Asteroids is also free - Commander Keen will cost you though.

Got Diablo II working with keys provided by Simdan.
Game takes me way back. Hard to play on 27" FHD monitor though.

lol… yeah… played for a few minutes and thought… you know what.. I think I will fire up D3 instead.

those 3 games have always been free and the article is just straight wrong but guess it is a good PSA to people who didn't know these games were free from 7 years ago.

Rock n Roll Racing! Yes! Loved that on the SNES!

  • if blizzard are giving away games, it would be on their web site with $0 cost or the word free …..

  • Awesome ! D2 brings back so many memories. Thanks OP :)

I just purchased 6 sets of Diablo II cdkeys….

I don't think Diablo II and Expansion are free.
I saw many commented saying still asking for cdkeys.

  • I can't find:

    Blackthorne

    The Lost Vikings

    Rock N' Roll Racing

Anyone interested in sending me the files or the downloader from Blizzard for these three? I collect them. We can discuss how if someone is interested. Thanks.

  • I need the link to Rock n' Roll Racing. :(

  • Are those really Blizzard games? /s

Before you get too excited about Rock N' Roll Racing:

This release is a lite version Rock N' Roll Racing that features three playable tracks from the original Rock N' Roll Racing for Super Nintendo.

Also, there was no character selection and it appears to be single player only.

Looks to be built off zsnes.

280 upvotes for some d-grade games probably been free for yonks. I am gonna go hunt down some more for free karma.

  • Rock N Roll Racing has been available here from 2014 so perhaps the original article has been a bit lazy:

WITH MULTIPLAYER this was one of the top 5 most fun games I've ever played, even though it was just 2 players split screen on the same TV. My friends and I burnt through hundreds of hours on this.

I always expected a 8+ player online similar game to turn up and I would have played that to death too but it never did, to my knowledge Everything went 3D and the closest 2D racing games were micro machines and death rally, which both got terrible reviews. Utter tragedy in my book!
