      It's almost end of September.

  • Damn, so we can't trade our Pro for a digital?

    • I believe you can, it's just not listed on the page, might have to check with EB directly to confirm if it's the same discount.

      • Interesting. Yeah Might as well pre-order right away to lock in the first shipments.

    • +1

My post below shows that you can and the amounts! :)

      • Cheers, yeah I actually popped into my local store on the way into work and asked there also. Said it would be fine and actually said I'll probably get some additional credit going from Pro>Digital.

  • Still got the original box for the old girl (original ps4) you've served me well, I salute you.

  • +1

My PS4 Pro is a JP version, do you reckon they will notice/care if I include an aussie plug and feign ignorance?

    • +1

You can just grab other cable, its pretty universal, then you are 100% sure to trade it

    • +1

Up to the staff I guess, the website says

"Your console needs to be an Australian model, in working condition and not be modified. Your console must not be banned from the PlayStation Network. Below are the consoles we trade:

      PlayStation 4 500GB and 1TB, PlayStation 4 Slim 500GB and 1TB, and PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB."

  • What happens when you pre-order two (wanted to do pick-up, but first one was delivered)? Will they cancel both or just one? Thanks!

  • So I take it I can trade my slim for the none digital and get $200. I think if that’s the case I’ll preorder, as son won’t allow a day without PS4 time.

    • +1

They allow trade in on the day

  • Waiting for Amazon to open up Pre orders

  • +5

    I remember paying $1000 back in 2007 for a PS3 at release, so $749 for a PS5 ain't that bad.

    • +1

Same. My OG PS3 died few yrs back.

      • Mine too RIP PS3s

  • I’m amazed these aren’t sold out yet!

    • +1

That's because most people were not expecting for pre-orders to go up so suddenly after the ps5 live stream they assumed it will be like Xbox series X preorders which they are giving people days in advance when will preorders will go live.

I predict It will sell out at EB games before 11:59pm tonight.

      • It’s sold out. Digitally available still but for not much longer. I guess people still want the option of a disc drive just in case.

    • later today it will be. Safe bet is put a $200 deposit. It will be based on first come first served. You can always pull out the $200 deposit later if you change your mind.

  • How long will it take for the Standard to be discounted to say $500?

    • +1

      2 years

  • Any word on what the go with backwards compatibility will be? Have a backlog and not sure I want to commit to a trade-in..

    • Sony has confirmed that PS4 games will be playable on the PS5, meaning that the PlayStation 5 is backwards compatible with the PS4

      • Do you have a source for this? They have been super silent on this.

      • +1

The only thing concrete they've provided though is this "Greatest hits list" and even then they've only shared 16 of a supposed 100 titles.

I'd really like to know if I can just stick a disc in.

  • Damn did a Norman preorder. I suppose I can trade the pro in for games at eb ?

  • +1

I was thinking this could be a good solution to my current Pro being so noisy (airplane noise when playing Red Dead 2) and was looking at upgrading HDD to a larger SSD. But this PS5 one is actually smaller.
I only paid $350 for my Pro so the $300 off is a good incentive, but that small HDD is holding me back.

  • Can we select the trade-in option at all? Seems like the preordering process and checkout doesn't say anything about the trade-in

    • Checkout as click and collect, then on the day of launch you take your console in to do the trade.

  • +3

That trade in change from 350 to 300 for a Pro is a kick in the teeth. Not sure if I want to jump on this or sell privately now.

Any other way to game this with cheap gift cards or something?

  • It's a risk though until we know more about just how compatible it is with ps4 games

  • How backward compatible the Ps5 is? Say I still some games haven't finish in Ps4, and I want to finish it in Ps5.

    • Good question

  • I don't understand.
PS5 is spec wise lower than XBox Series X. Since they have the market & exclusives, they can charge as much as Xbox.
But, why trade in value of PS4 Pro is lower than that of XBox One X?
I am going to keep my ps4 pro. Or try to sell it in ebay.

    • Because the RRP for PS4 Pro was lower and while there were OZB deals, some people (i.e. me) actually paid more for XBox One X than PS4 Pro.

So, for me, that's fair as I did pay less for PS4 Pro to start with. Was hoping PS5 won't cost the same as Series X, but that didn't happen.

    • The Xbox One X is newer tech with, I'm assuming, a higher RRP. As for the Series X being more powerful for the same price, MS are most likely making more of a loss than Sony. They can afford it.

  • I haven't traded before, thinking about doing it.

What do i do? Just bring in my console along with the HDMI and controller or is it just the console itself?

    • To trade a complete console, it also needs to include:

      1 x PS4 Dualshock Controller
      1 x USB charge cable
      1 x HDMI cable
      1 x Power cable

      • Can like, any cable do? I'm a few years and a house move or so away from remembering where the heck my 'official' PS4 charger and HDMI/Power cables are :P

        • +1

As long good condition they usual are okay otherwise they usually just remove some of money from total console trade cost.

        • +1

Yeah, it just says a charge cable, any Micro USB would do :)

  • +1

$600 for discless and PSN games being $125 is a top shelf scam.

    • Games are expensive I agree, $600 for digital edition is pretty good I thought.
Or you prefer Xbox One X for $549?

      https://www.bigw.com.au/product/xbox-one-x-1tb-console/p/664…

      • That's why it's cheap, cause you have to pay the difference in price when you're paying more for games digitally. Over the course of an entire generation, the digital will end up costing much more than disc

        • Have a look at the RRPs for the physical games for PS5 listed by EB. It really depends on how soon you want to play the games.

There is also a slight twist to this. Do we expect fast game switch to work well with discs? I am already finding digital version running a tad faster than disc version in PS4. There is no occasional loads to check discs.

          • @netsurfer: EB is cancer, their rrp for new games does not represent the price other retailers will sell for

          • @netsurfer: use your brain they are placeholders.. lol

            • @Rukiata: Honestly, people "cannot" think of any way to make digital edition more attractive? Sure, if you followed the rules 100%, it may look bad.

Not saying you should, but I reckon some people going for digital edition might…..

I am going to get physical edition if I were to get one, but deep down, I prefer digital version of the games.

      • +1

That's part of the scam. People are going to buy it because it's cheaper without thinking it through and then realise later they have to pay $125 at launch for all their games because they have no choice but PSN. Not to mention zero ability to resell, trade or lend on top. No way to play your old PS4 games on disc, no UHD player.

        • Eh, this is why I use my US account most of the time. Even factoring in currency conversions it works out cheaper to purchase.

        • I get the point, but are we seriously expecting Sony to match XBox Series S price? That's unrealistic.

Not saying people should get it, but raising price of physical version of the games. That's not looking good. I guess you can play quickly and sell the games.

As much as I prefer and will get physical version (if I do get one), the ability to switch games quickly is attractive. But I guess most of the time, we tend to play one game.

        • Digital game price - I've seen some "dodgy" deals on Ghost of Tsushima for example. Priced at lower than Amazon's physical version. Obviously, you can sell physical game and get a big chuck of money back (assuming you finish the game quickly, rather than adding it to pile of shame). Trade in games to EB tend to be rip off. Sell second hand games online is a bit of a pain (the postage cost doesn't help). Sell direct with pickup… I guess that's okay…

There is also other ways, but to keep things clean here, I won't mention them. However, I do know some people doing dodgy things on Apple iTunes account that's against the rules for years.

I've been bending rules by purchasing / using non-AU version of PS Plus. The PS Plus collection will help as I do plan to switch back to AU version of PS Plus.

I've picked up a few digital version of PS4 games cheap (after selling physical version). Game switching is easier with digital. All these fast load next gen, I really don't know how good it will be with physical.

    • I looked at that and it was simple to go for the additional $150 as I don't have a PS4.

Part of the attraction is being able to play the PS4 exclusives I missed on this generation cheaply.

A couple of games picked up for less than $20 on disc will go a long way.

The biggest annoyance is that it'll be put away until Christmas.

      • +1

Make sure you don't get ones in PS Plus Collection:

Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, God of War, Days Gone, Ratchet and Clank, etc…

        • Oh, I'd missed that announcement.

That'd keep me busy for a while.

  • guys let's all jump on board before regret

  • +3

$125 for Demons Souls at EB. Bloody hell.
    https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/ps5/267706-demons-souls

    • Geez

    • +1

You can price match jbhifi or big Ws price at release when you pick up

    • Wait for Big W prices prob $80 - 99 I reckon

  • Would trading in your PS4 now be more value than trading it in a couple years later when they drop the price of the PS5?

    • My bet would PS4 will have near 0 value when ps5 comes down

      • Is that based on historical data (I.e trading PS3 for PS4, trading PS2 for PS3).

I'll be honest I haven't yet looked into the technology that PS5 is offering

Edit: I guess what I'm asking is, would you be better off buying the PS5 now for $450 (trade in value now) or wait until a deal to come out later for <$500 and sell your PS4 for $100-200 (perhaps my figures are too ambitious?).

  • +1

No special love for vanilla ps4 trade in? 🤔

    • +1

      $220 standard value.

  • I want to use my credit card with price protection to make the purchase but if they take a $200 deposit now and the rest later, I wouldnt be able to make any claims :(

I wish there was an option to pay full price!

    • You can do part payments, just when you make a claim they will need to know the dates of all the payments to verify, so they contact you is all.

      • For real?!! I guess that would work only for claims filed over the phone then because the web form does not support that kinda info

        • +1

No just submit your online claim as normal, then they will contact you to clarify the claim details as it won't add up (eg you only paid $200 on today's date, but you are claiming for a $749 purchase)

  • Weird JB orders are up, but say they don’t guarantee release date… and won’t allow me to select click and collect in my local (Melbourne)

  • Has anyone tried to trade in their Xbox One X for this?

Would we need to call up or something?

    • +1

Just asked EB Games on twitter. Let's see what they reply

      • Cheers lad

    • Yes, they gave me the same value of trading an Xbox One X for the Xbox Series X as advertised. ie. Minimum $350 and then more dependent on your EB level

      • so it is better to trade in an xbox one x than a ps4 pro?

        • Correct. Xbox One X = $350. PS4 Pro = $300.

  • +1

JB Hifi just went live but they don’t guarantee you will get one launch day if you pre order.

    • +3

That kinda kills the mood on JB hi-fis preorders

      • Yeah looks like they plan to pre sell more than just the first shipment.

      • +1

And theres no option to pre order the accessories either. I was super keen to pre order through JB, registering my interest, I know they will sell regardless but I think they dropped the ball on this compared to EB (who I didn't want to order through)

    • yea, I'll rather pay more and secure it. Then again If I didn't have $200 at least you could get one for you kid for Christmas or something

  • Will EB Games take my PS3 for trade in?

I like to skip a generation on Playstation console so I can really see the difference.

    • You are going to see much more then just a "difference" I don't believe they take PS3s anymore call your local store and ask.

    • You would get like $50 if that i recon

      • They stopped taking ps3s in late January.

At that time I got $30 for it…

  • Can I trade my pro in for the all digital version and still get $300?

  • Ima wait for the black version to go with my setup.

  • Thanks OP, I didn't realise pre-orders would open so soon.

Ordered Console, Extra Controller, Charging Stand and Headset.

Just a quick question, I upgraded my PS4 pro HDD to a 500GB SSD, and sold the old drive. I assume I'll need to buy an original PS4 pro 1TB drive and put it in the console before I can trade in ?

    • +1

No, you don't have to replace the drive if you don't want too. But also don't expect to get any extra benefit from EBgames for having a SSD drive in the system either.

      • Their SSD is only 500GB though compared to the 1TB drive it comes with.

        • EBgames generally only care if the machine is in good condition, works and complete.

          • @User50301: True. Probably best to call up and ask about the lower capacity drive in that case.

            • @MitchyD1989: At worst they may try to be sly and shave some trade in value off. But they will not knock it back completely if the previously mentioned states are met.

    • Most likely yes, but mainly because the drive you replaced it with is a lower capacity. You can trade it in with a larger drive, although it doesn't affect the value.
