  • Transformer + prime ??? will the third be Transformer bumblebee or Transformer Megatron ?

anyhow, wish i had the money to buy this…..in fact hopefully next year april i hope it drops to about 300, then i'll definitely buy. Anyone predict the possibility of this ?

  • Hi…

Official release dates in the US are centred either on Dec 8 or Dec 9, Canada has the date for Dec 5.

Here in Australia, ASUS have stated that this is going to be stocked by JB HiFi and Harvey Norman from "mid December". No confirmation of this was made by stores (at date of posting).

Unfortunately, no pricing was made available from ASUS either - let's all hope that its similar to the US pricing, the dollar is above parity, there's no earthquakes in Taiwan, and my car doesn't break down when getting there on the launch date.

But with the current model at about $400 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/57235) or under (limited stock sales), should show more pressure to lower this price. Against this, is the iPad2…at about $530 or so…

To me, the TF201 (http://www.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_Pad_Transformer_Prime_TF…) is a clear winner, and will attract the Android users - esp as its ready for Android 4.0. No idea just how many apps can take advantage of 10-finger multi-touch support…maybe a piano program?). This is countered by the maority of the market that have heavily invested (ie, paid / learned) apps/content through iTunes, and want to keep their investment. iPad3 will have a bit of a leap to get to this standard and can't say that back-compatibility to the 1st iPad can be maintained. At some point, they'll have to cut the tether to introduce the new basepoint for performance.

  • Why does it only have 1gb ram. Should really have 1.5 or more as that is almost the standard even in phones soon…

  • Probably as tablet platforms (android, iOS, etc) aren't as code-bulky as other platforms (windows). Tablet apps themselves are "lighter" - so don't use as much RAM - or have highend feature removed. Unlikely that a game, like Modern Warfare 3 - with its 16Gb in HDD storage size - would appear in this configuration on a tablet - but then, most tablets aren't using the same graphics capabilities that appear in PCs.
Trend is to operate in the cloud, so that the tablet is the interface to this huge apps, where the heavy computing power comes into play - and therefore, would not need to justify comparable RAM.

  • Saw this last night. Ritchie Djamhur is a tech buyer at Bing Lee and he has already got his hand on a Transformer Prime for evaluation. I am sure other stores (JB, DSE) are also getting them ready — for Christmas I guess.
