NBN 5Ghz not good enough for apple airplay?

I've recently switched from optus cable to belong NBN and I'm finding that airplay from my apple tv is still quite stutter-y. Even on my 5Ghz network.

Has anybody else had this problem and knows how I can improve it?

Cheers

  • Is IGMP Snooping enabled on the router and does the router support mu mimo.

NBN or the provider shouldn't impact airplay right? You're just casting things over LAN? It'll be some router settings that will be the issue.

    • Accessing router settings, is it easy to do?

Yeah of course, depending on your router it'll usually be found at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (type into browser). Username is usually admin and pass is admin, but maybe google your specific router as to what it is.

        • Brilliant, I’ll check it out. Thanks very much for your help.

The OP mentioned 5Ghz, so they seem to be running the Apple TV over WiFi.

  • My airplay doesn’t work as well as using the built in apps. Pretty annoying as I like to airplay my iPhone’s YouTube app to my Apple TV but it takes so long to buffer and still looks pixilated.

  • still quite stutter-y

Are you saying that it was stuttering with Optus HFC broadband and is now also stuttering with Belong NBN? What speed was your Optus HFC? What speed and technology NBN do you have with Belong now?

Anyway, it sounds like it's a WiFi issue. What WiFi router did you have with Optus and what WiFi router do you have with Belong? How far from the WiFi router is your Apple TV? What's inbetween them (ie walls, bookcases, bathrooms, etc)?

I don't know much about Apple TVs, do they have an ethernet port? If so, can you buy or borrow an ethernet cable long enough to reach from the WiFi router to the Apple TV temporarily, to see if that fixes the stuttering?

  • Had connection issues with the supplied belong modem router.

Got a tp-link ac1600 modem router as digested by many on Whirlpool forums and have have higher speeds and zero dropouts since.

    • How much of an improvement is the TP link over the belong router?
I’m with Dodo NBN and using their supplied modern but the range isn’t the best. I struggle to stream 1080p on streaming services.
