Hmmm feels like a data collection scheme….

I reached out to Qatar FB page and got this response:

"Hi , a number of teaching professionals who have successfully registered to our Offer may expect a slight delay in receiving the promo code or may not receive due to one of the following reasons.

    • The review and validation process may take up to 48 hours, customers who didn’t receive notification email need to check their email inbox in all folders as it may have been placed in a SPAM folder.
    • Some customers may see the BLUE banner however didn’t receive an email, this could also mean the wrong email was submitted during submission. All information submitted on the registration form is considered final and cannot be amended at any point in time.
    • Some customers who receive a BLUE banner and email address were correct, however, failed the review and validation process due to being disqualified. The systems detect false identification or fraudulent activity and automatically removes these entries from the successful participant list.
We appreciate your understanding in this regard.
    • Thanks for the update. I got the BLUE banner on Monday and have not received an email (have checked all folders probably 50x daily ;-) ), so I'm hoping it's still on the way. I doubt I would have been disqualified because I entered my details just once after triple-checking that they were correct. Here's hoping this was a legitimate offer and not some data collection scam.

    • We received the unique code from Qatar about 3-4 days after we registered.

It is legit as it works on a trip to Europe.

The reasons above are lessons learned from the previous offer.

      • thanks for the assurance, would that have been for the latest promotion or the Health workers?

    • So basically they are saying if you don't get an email, we can use some excuses to not give you a promo code.
      "Hands wiped clean"

Not surprised, hopefully some Australians get some of these tickets.

  • I got the blue banner on 7/9/20. Just received the code at 8:00 AM this morning (in my regular inbox, not my spam folder).

    • Blue banner on October 7 as well, code 8:07 AM this morning

    • what was the subject line so i can search

  • Received the code too. Needs to be used by 1 November 2020….uhhhhh, so where are people booking their flights to?

    • Yeah, hard to work out where to go given the uncertainty. I wonder when it says "travel until 30 September 2021" is it referring to outgoing flight? Or is that both legs completed by?

      • +1

I think it means return leg too

      • +2

yeah if you click on the terms and conditions on the email, brings up the booking page where it says:

To book your complimentary ticket, use the promo code you received by 1 November 2020 as you search for flights on qatarairways.com.* Your flight must be:

        • Departing at least 14 days later. For example, if today's date is 10 October 2020, you must search for flights departing on 24 October 2020 or later.
        • Returning no later than 30 September 2021.
        • My bad. Was half asleep. Re read the comment.

          Congrats on the code

        • Thank you!

        • Does the T&C link work for you? It just seems to redirect me to the Qatar homepage :(

  • Got mine this morning, noticed i never found out but is this for a return ticket or just one way?

  • didn't get anything, nor my friend, both eligable nor 72 hours

  • got my code this monring :)

  • Got the code this morning as well.

  • I always got The daily promo code limit for your country has already been reached but then mysteriously received a code via email today.

  • Mine came through at 8:07am. Fingers crossed travel will open up again for the dates awarded, I’d really love to go and show Italy some love and spend some tourist dollars after the horrific time they’ve had. I think using an edu email probably helped, as it seems they did do a bit of checking into the entries.

    • See I was going to do that but being a casual…..we don't have edu mail…..lol.

Go Spain as well! People often forget Spain!

  • Got my code this morning but doesn't seem to be working. I broswed some flights and it shows full price. Anyone has the same problem?

    • Same issue here

    • I tried going as far as the “payment” screen, and even though it still showed the full price, there was a box that said that a voucher will be applied to me. I didn’t click on ‘purchase’ though.

    • Talked to support and the code only works on some flights. Need to keep looking on the calendar till you find the $0 one

      • Must be I'm having bad luck. I've looked at 45 different days (using the 15 day calendar option) for return flights (Melbourne-London) and they all show a fare of $800+ each way. If someone can find a $0 fare flight, please share because it doesn't appear that the code actually does anything to reduce the costs.

        • I found some from adelaide to London, remember you still have to pay tax which is $100 to london and $300 back to aus.

        • +1

If anyone wants to go to Lisbon, found $190 taxes only return to AUS in April 2021 for 1 person.

          • @gym: This is ridiculous. I've done quite a few searches and there doesn't seem like there are any in the school holidays. What was the point of giving tickets to teachers then!?
Probably won't even use mine then.

            • @mcor77: If you cant use it, PM me down the track:)
I am a Casual so my dates are flexible!

              • +1

@iNeed2Pee: The code can only be used by me (non transferable). I can't find ANY flights. This was just a marketing stunt by Qatar. I won't be willingly choosing them for my next flight that's for sure.

                • @mcor77: Yeah I thought so but hey worth the ask right?

I travelled with them to Frankfurt in 2013, return with Greece. They seemed to have a shit load of different flights and or routes but I knew this would backfire with the 100,000 to health workers who would have eaten most of the promo allocation for next year.

Where are you looking to fly to?

                  • @iNeed2Pee: I've tried for all of 2021 to Rome, London, Paris, Barcelona, Budapest, Lisbon and Zurich from Melbourne.

                    • @mcor77: Try Madrid, Athens (Eleftherios), Even Frankfurt….You never know! Just try every city 🤣.

                      I wish you good luck!

                      • @iNeed2Pee: I've found that booking one way, there are many promos (mel -> london for $130), London to mel for around the same…but booking that same flight doing round trip, it gives you the non-promo price. I wonder if that's intentional?
The terms and conditions specifically stipulate that the code can be used for return airfares.

                        • @mcor77: Yeah thats dodgy.
Nothing is ever for free, and when it is there is usually a catch!

            • @mcor77: Can you take long service leave, or leave without pay a few days either side of the 'holidays'?

Alternatively, are you able to make changes to the booking once it's booked, ie a name change? (Possibly some fees payable, but could be still better off for someone else).

I tried every day to get a code with no luck….but sounds like a pretty stressful process for those who got one.

              Goodluck!

          • @gym: THANK YOU! I was about to give up hope and forget that we even got the promo code. May and June from Melbourne worked as well

  • Got the voucher, email went to junk.

Okay, I finally managed to book return travel to North America for dates in April 2021 which will obviously be cancelled because of travel restrictions. I only had to pay departure/arrival taxes(~$220). My reasoning is that I'll be able to change it later at no additional cost. If you look at the press release here, it claims in the eighth paragraph that:

Teachers that [sic] successfully register for complimentary Qatar Airways tickets can benefit from the airline’s leading flexible booking policies. Tickets issued up to 31 December 2020 are valid for two years with unlimited date changes and the option to exchange them for a travel voucher with an additional 10 per cent value.

Since booked tickets are valid for two years, it seems that the requirement to complete travel by 30 September 2021 (fourth paragraph) is overridden once you are issued tickets. Does everyone else read it that way?

    • How did you manage to find the dates?

      • +1

Tried a bunch of different cities and used the 15 day fare finder before finally finding flights (Melb-Montreal). It took a while, but late March early April are not peak times for travel to North America, so that's probably the best time to look for any place in the northern hemisphere. My dates are also before (departure) and after (return) the school holiday period, but I figured it didn't matter since they will be cancelled and rebooked for sometime in late 2021 or early 2022. Hope that helps. Oh, and I used the Wiki page for Qatar destinations to know where to look: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Qatar_Airways_destinat…

        • +1

Are you flying to Montreal Via Doha?

Damn thats a long way. Free or not 🤣

          • +1

@iNeed2Pee: It's a damn long way no matter which carrier you take, since Montreal is nearly the opposite side of the world. The stop in Doha (2 hours) is actually relatively brief (unlike the 8.5 hour layover I had in San Fran last time I went to Montreal), so the total journey duration is not out of the ordinary. Some people I know always book a hotel in the middle of the journey, but I've always preferred just getting through it.

            • @dibdob: Love your enthusiasm! Glad a ticket went to you!
Enjoy your trip and make sure you stay safe:)

  • I can see many flights to Europe from Perth can still be purchased with just a tax fare.

however, I want to know if i booked the ticket for next year sep, but due to travel restriction can not travel, are they able to change my date to 2021 or 2022? if we still can not travel wonder if they will refund me the tax fee I paid.

    • To what cities are you seeing these fares?

  • Did anyone who booked their flight get the 50% off promo code? I didn't get it after booking and had a friend who wanted to use it.
Also, for anyone who hasn't booked theirs yet, reminder that this is the last day! I found a booking Sydney to London in the April school holidays for just taxes (just under $400). Likely to be cancelled but then can be rebooked within two years!

    • The promo code is shown on the booking confirmation screen after you pay as well as in the booking confirmation pdf file.

      • thanks for replying! it didn't show up on the confirmation page for me when I booked, I checked everywhere on the page, or in the email I received :/ the email only has the e-ticket not the confirmation as a pdf though?

        • Go onto the Qatar website and use your ticket details to access the flight management section. You'll then be able to download all the PDF files they provided you. It will be in one of those files, somewhere towards the bottom of one of the pages.

          • @[Deactivated]: I've looked at that :((( I only have the trip summary and the e-ticket on the management page, and it isn't in either of those. Have been on hold to Qatar for about 45 minutes!!

            • @sayanything: That's weird, I'm sorry I can't help any further :( I hope you get it sorted.

              • @[Deactivated]: no worries, I appreciate your replies so I know that this is not how it should have been! Even worse, when I finally got through they insisted it takes 2-3 days to get the promo code… I think they just think it's the initial code for the free flight, even though I tried to explain. And they couldn't give me a reference number for the call? I have emailed them as that's all I can do now :(

                • @sayanything: If it's any consolation, the 50% discount is pretty crap. Turned a ~$1250 return flight to London to a $988 return flight since it only discounts the flight and not the taxes.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Taxes are never discounted. Even on staff travel taxes must be fully paid.

                    • @pogichinoy: I know, which makes these 50% off discounts shit because the majority of the fare is taxes.

    • Did you end up finding the code? :)

  • Has anyone received the 50% off code?
