  • Sweet. Got conditionally approved instantly after completed the application.

    • So did I last week, then application showing "Declined" after providing salary proof to back up application. Now waiting on a "senior analyst" to advise a week later. Strange processes.

  • Clicking link I'm getting: "The discounted first year annual card fee of $99" not first year waived….

Edit: ok, need to sign in.

  • Just applied, lucky me that I cancelled My Attitude Black in Sept 2019
    Just over 12 months!

  • This deal is also for previous customers as I don’t have a current credit card, logged in just now and I can see the deal.

Now to check when I closed my account.

  • Always loads of people in these deals whining about rejections and advising to not even bother applying.
I was approved for this same day, and likewise I've been approved for every single other FF CC I've ever applied for (probably 15 over the last 5 or so years across 6 different banks).
I don't earn a crazy amount and do have a mortgage, existing CC and decent expenses. Just pay your bills and you'll be fine if you're on a decent wage and not up to your eyeballs in debt.

    • thats not always the case for some, on occasions some credit check sitting on the applicant account which they are not aware of. Its worth checking on yearly basis the credit reports from diff agencies, its free report (1) a year.

    • Not true mate. I have no debt whatsoever, no other cards, car payments, mortgage anything.

Earn $137k, credit score is good, rejected for $6k application.

      • Having no debt may not work in your favour. Pro tip - having a long history of being able to make repayments is likely beneficial. Get a no fee card and use it occasionally and always pay off all balance.

The algorithms that banks use are looking for patterns. If you had no history at all then the uncertainty around your future credit behaviour is a big unknown. So having some benign credit history can help establish a good confidence level on future outcome.

The algos are somewhat of a black box really but this makes sense at some level. Any one out there with a better inner knowledge on how this works please do share your thoughts. Much appreciated.

Does Water Bills and Car Rego count towards spendature? Can anyone confirm?

  • The credit check Westpac does (Equifax I believe) is an absolute joke.
I supposedly have two credit cards, which I have absolutely no knowledge of and it doesn't even come up on credit report from creditsavvy.
My brother had similar issue when he applied for a credit card through Westpac and their credit check claiming he had mortgages and credit cards that he doesn't even have.

    • Spoke to Equifax about my credit file and they don't even have the credit cards that Westpac claims I have on my credit file listed on their system.
How much more hopeless can you get as a bank?

  • +1

Was on the phone with Westpac this morning and they told me NOT TO USE PAYPAL or any 3rd party payment system as they don't count as eligible purchases for bonus points. Also, as per the terms and conditions, payment to Government bodies (Water, Rego, Council Rates…) won't be counted either.
I will probably have to stack up giftcards.

    • Hrm, I'm looking at my first statement of this very CC from last year. In there total spent amount slightly over $2990 which include $534 to Service NSW (that was for a car rego).
At the bottom, it's showing1500 points earned. Given the earning rate of this account is 0.5 QF per $, I believe I have earned points on all spending items.

      • This is just for the bonus qantas points of 75k. You still earn points for normal transactions.

      • Yeah all my rates and rego payments have been counted as points and eligible spend on my previous churned cards with the same disclaimers so not sure if it's council dependant or what.

    • +2

I'm not sure that's right, I spent most of my min spend on the Altitude Black a few months ago through payments on Paypal and Deft and received the bonus points just fine..

    • +2

I find it hard to believe Paypal or most payment gateways are excluded. I've been CC churning for years and never had that happen. The only exception has been government related payments made directly.

  • Can someone please post a screenshot with some information indicating the $50 Qantas Rewards fee is / should be waived? I can't find any info on my end - would really appreciate it in case they decide to charge me the fee later. Thanks!

    • +1

      it's not waived :)

  • How do you get access to their digital card in APP?

  • Ok finally got approved.

Got 4 existing credit cards, so having high credit card limit seems like not an issue.

  • Is there anyway to escalate a rejection ? I called but just got told they can't tell me why I was rejected and thats it.

I'd like someone at Westpac to look into the detail of my application and confirm why it was rejected incase its a mistake

  • Not an existing customer but thinking of applying for this one anyway unless someone has another recommendation.
Cant be Amex has had card within 18 months. Also got denied for St George today for their card. Still miffed at that one. They seem to classify my mortgage overpayments (that I chose to make over and above the minimum) as what my actual outgoings are.

    • St George is Westpac you know…

      • Yes I know but they are still separate entities and I'm guessing their business is run separately.

    • Submit your payslips manually - do not use the bank account scraping and you wont have this issue.

  • Anyone else tried signing up today and received this error at the end of the application?

The credit card application form is currently unavailable. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    • Not that, but i can't load any branches when it asks you to choose one so can't continue my application

      • in the same page, called the bank and went through the process, and got approved.

    • yes happened to me on Chrome, tried again on Edge and hit "save for later" first then I was able to submit, was conditionnally approved now waiting (sent my payslips)

  • Signed up last night for CC - approved just now - card is on its way - fastest and simplest application process by a long shot.

I used the upload payslip method.

  • I've never ever experienced so much trouble applying for a credit card. They get the credit report data from Illion and the credit record they have is all wrong. I honestly don't know where Illion is getting their data from as it lists mortagages and credit cards I don't have and don't show up on credit reports run by other credit institution like Equifax and Credit Savvy.
It's shocking banks are relying on such garbage information being fed by companies like Illion.

    • identify theft?

      • No, it would probably show up on other credit checks too if it was identity theft. Illion is just rubbish that's all it is. My brother had the exact same issue and knowing what I know now about Illion, his issues originated from incorrect info from Illion as well.

  • Hey guys, check the Rewards & offers in the WP app. There is a Myer offer "spend $100 get $10 cashback".

SpendGet $10 cashback when you spend $100 or more at Myer.
$100 or more in 1 transaction on your Westpac Credit Card by either the primary or secondary cardholder. Only 1 cashback offer per merchant, per card and will be paid into your account within approximately 7 days. Offer is valid in-store and online.

You don't have to wait for the physical card to arrive to use it. Just do the "Add digital card" to your phone.

    • Did you have any issues setting up the digital card - I got the error "We're unable to display your card details online. Please call 1300 651 089". Called them up - outside of the relevant teams operating hours - now need to wait till Monday.

      • Not at all. Added and then used it at Cole's without issue.

        • I can confirm that going into the store and showing photo id removed the issue "We're unable to display your card details online. Please call 1300 651 089".

I used it digitally today several times no issues with the digital card.

      • Getting the same error. Called up the number and dude said "wait 4 to 72 hours". Why does the bank send an email saying

Want to use your card instantly?
A digital version of your card is now available and can be accessed 24/7 via the Mobile Banking App.

I was however able to setup the digital card for the Westpac Choice account.

        • Digital card now available. Haven't used it yet though.

  • Was rejected yesterday but finally realised what I did wrong, submitted fortnightly pay instead of monthly. What are my options regarding this application, if any?

    • Call them or submit another application

  • I am an "additional card holder" of my partner's Westpac Altitude Rewards card. My partner is the primary card holder, not me. I did not apply or manage my partners card.
I am an existing Low Rate Card holder (primary holder).
Does that make me ineligible for this deal?

I have read this link, but card get the right answer, I will try chatting to Westpac aswell
    https://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/credit-cards/man…
Who is responsible for the credit card?
As the primary cardholder, you’ll be responsible for the use of the additional card on your account and will need to pay for all transactions made by the additional cardholder, including any charges as set out in the Conditions of Use.

    • You're eligible - your partner not - for the bonus points.

  • Unbelievable stuff. Illion, which is the credit check provider Westpac uses, somehow stuffed up my credit report whereby they combined credit details of my brother with mine. My credit report even has my brother's name and current address in the personal details section. No bloody wonder I coudn't recognise so many of the entries on file.

  • For those who have applied successfully - how long did it take for them to verify your payslips after you've been conditionally approved? When I go on their online status checker it says my application has been declined but I haven't received any follow ups from Westpac after my initial conditionally approved email.

    • 2 days for me.

    • I applied and uploaded docs this morning at 8:30am. Just got approved at 3pm.

4 years ago I applied for Westpac card. Got denied but they never sent email, sms or mail. I found out myself from online app status. Maybe you should call in case there was an issue with your docs.

      • Called them and they said it's still with their senior review team (?). Told me to call back Monday if I've not heard anything from them.. Kinda weird given the fast turn around time for everyone else.

        • Did you hear back from them @winteroce? I'm in the same boat as you right now.

          • @icedtea229: I had to contact them again - it was approved in the end. Took bloody ages though.

            • @winteroce: Thanks! They told me I'd have to wait 10 business days. Fingers crossed.

Be careful using your "digital card" before the phyical card arrives!!!

I did this, made 2 purchases first in store at bunnings, and the second purchase was online and despite triggering a OTP which i completed, a short time later my account and internet banking were disabled. Westpac demanded I come physically in-store to do 100 point ID check and unlock. Today i went to do that and nobody there could even unlock it!! Had to video conference to another bloke who he then had to call multiple teams to get it done. Took an hour.

Westpac make a point of promoting the use of the digital card before you receive but clearly their fraud algorithm behaves counter to that. And their processes are just as inept to resolve it. Feel sorry for the staff in store when their processes are this inept.

    • I used my digital (Black) card without drama on several occasions when my physical card was delayed.

From memory, an OTP wasn't required every time.

      • All i can say is be very thankful mate. Their automated fraud processes/restoration are a shambles.

    • I used my digital card all day today on 10+ transactions - no issues. I did go down to the bank today for verification before I could see the digital card details - but I have now met my minimum spend.

    • The same with you. I used my digital (Black) card.

    • +1

This happened to me too. Pretty annoying because the bank staff have no idea what you're talking about or how to unlock it.

    • I've met my $3k spend on the digital card and still waiting for the physical card to arrive. No issues yet so obviously not an automatic issue for everyone.

    • Spent $1700 on the digital card already and haven't had any issues luckily.

  • Just received my card in the mail - does or should the frequent flyer card have any physical differences on the card (like the ANZ one has FF logo on it?)

  • did the offer expire today?

    • +1

No, i just checked and the offer is still visible - make sure you log in first!

If you don't have an existing account try creating a Westpack Choice account (see other ozbargain post).

  • was conditionnally approved, I sent my payslips, didn't hear back, I called them, answered few more questions, and this morning got an email "we are unable to proceed with your application"
    ….
annoying…I missed the free anz one, so now we just have to wait for the next round.

  • Cheh, received this offer in my westpac inbox. I'm an existing altitude black holder; so thought that they had given up on that exclusion. But upon checking the T&C's i'm still excluded.

  • +1

Is council rate considered as gov charge? Wonder if anyone knows.

  • From what I can see (I have logged in), it says 60,000 bonus Qantas Points and reduced $99 first year fee.

The offer has expired it seems

    • Yes it looks like it.

++Reduced First year Annual Card Fee: The discounted first year annual card fee of $99 is available when you apply and are approved for a new Altitude Platinum card between 6th August 2020 and 11th November 2020. After the first year, the $150 annual card fee applies and will be debited to your card account on the 12-month anniversary of the first transaction on your account and annually thereafter.

First year Qantas Reward Fee waiver: A first year Annual $50 Qantas Rewards fee waiver is available when you apply and are approved for a new Altitude Platinum card between 6th August 2020 and 11th November 2020. After the first year, the Annual $50 Qantas Rewards fee applies and will be debited to your card account annually on the 12-month anniversary of the first transaction on your account and annually thereafter.

    • I think OP should update it to expired. Thanks

      • +1

The offer is still available in my online banking. It could possibly be targeted.

    • I viewed the credit card offers when logged in and went to the Altitude Platinum and it has the $0 annual fee offer but accessing the link from this deal gives me the $99 annual fee.

      • +1

just checked, if you select 'altitude rewards' shows zero fee for the first year, if select 'qantas' shows reduced fee of $99 but on the main header shows zero fee first year.

better check with westpac before you apply

  • Does anyone have a screenshot from their website? I was approved within the time frame but Westpac is now saying it's only 60k QFF now $0 annual fee…

  • Hi All, i can only find this card with BONUS 60k QFF points, anyone can share where is the terms and condition to for the BONUS 75k QFF?

    • Are you logged into westpac? log in to your account and navigate to the products page and find the credit card that way.

      • thanks champ! you are right

  • Asking for someone else - has anyone gotten this card with 35-45k salary and 3 months in the job?

    • Your short employment could be a problem.

My friend whom just just moved to highly 6 figures salary for 2 months and apply to a new low cost card just ($2K limit) for overseas payment. Got rejected.

  • The annoying part is going into the branch to give verification to get the physical card. Like why can't they just do it like other banks

  • Thanks OP,

Approved within a day. Just started my card churning journey and this is my 3rd card. Looking forward to using these when travel restrictions are lifted.

    • A day! I've been waiting 2 weeks and they keep coming back with more questions!

  • Just received an email, anyone else?

    Dear xxx,
Love earning Qantas Points with your Westpac Altitude Card? For a limited time, we're giving you the chance to share the love with your friends.

You could earn 10,000 bonus Qantas Points for each friend you successfully refer for a new Westpac Altitude card using your referral link. This excludes friends who currently hold or have held a Westpac Qantas Points earning Altitude credit card in the last 12 months. You can make a maximum of 10 referrals* which could be a huge points boost of up to 100,000 Qantas Points.

Plus, your friend could also earn 10,000 additional Qantas Points. This is on top of existing offers when they apply, are approved and make an eligible purchase on a new Westpac Altitude card by 21 January 2021.* New card offers are subject to separate eligibility requirements, please check before you apply.

  • Sorry for the dumb question - I’ve never had a card linked to Qantas. Should my accumulating points be showing up in my Qantas account? I can’t see anywhere in my account where it shows.

    • +1

They will transfer them every month

      • Ah gotcha, thanks for that.

  • i still have not got my physical card - applied 16/10/2020. Anyone else still waiting?

    • What? That's like a month. Call them up. It could be sitting at your local branch. I've got my about 5 days or so after approval

  • +2

Only 60k Qantas points have been credited instead of 75k points.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    • Statement issued yesterday, same issue. Has it been credited to your Qantas account already?

Gonna chat with CS later today.

      • Points are yet to be posted into Qantas account, however the statement issued this morning and the it only showed 60k points.

        • My statement showing 1915 points earned - 0 bonus points. Total spending was $3,881.

Will have to call CS on Monday.

          • @timhn: im the same as yoou, similiar spend and points, no bonus points showing up.

can you update me when u call CS and what they say

            • @victimized: CS said I needed to wait for 12 weeks as 8n the T&C.
