This isn't the same as the 1.7l one, it isn't as 'smart', in that it can't be controlled from phone or connected to Alexa/Google.

    • One less feature to breakdown…

The word smart appears to be over used on there, it’s now a proper noun “Smart”. Just marketing to fool people.

Different product to yesterday., This only has an electronic display not wifi/smart home control.

    • Does have temperature setting and pretty blinking coloured lights though!
      No wifi is a plus.

In time for xmas in the kitchen.

    • How will i hack into my neighbors kettle???

Does this version have a lid release button that actually works? I cannot believe they are still selling the 1.7L smart (GA and Alexa) version when so many people have had problems with the release button.

I bought one, lid issue. Asked for refund. They sent me out a new one. Lid issue.
Apart from the lid issue it's good.

      • Thought it was just my kettle that was having lid problems.
Still rather have that and be able to send a voice command to turn on the kettle from the bed.
        Can't stand watching water boil.

        • Yes, we have one too and other than the stupid lid, it was great. Then we renovated and splurged on a zip tap. I was going to pass on the Kogan "smart" kettle to mum but realised the lid issue would drive her spare too.

I've heard some people have done DIY repairs eg filing the release catch themselves etc.

  • But it has kogan plastered on it.

    • Wouldn’t exactly say it’s plastered all over it.

      • No one said all over.

    • "kogan" on the steel base, comes off in 10 seconds with a nylon pot-cleaner pad.

      • Sure if you like the scratch marks look.

        • Nice guess, but no. Brushed steel is a lot tougher than nylon.

        On the dole?

        • +1

That must be the local kettle model

  • Why do they call this smart when it doesn't have a single feature that makes it smart?

  • Any other recommendations for a 'smart-ish' Kettle, wifi would be cool, needs to be able to do ~40°C, 80°C, sterilize etc.

WARNING about the "Smart" in the name!
While today this is usually sign of connectivity and remote control, this is a DUMB kettle, no WiFi or Bluetooth capability!
      It is very deceptive description.
Sorry - should have been on its own, not as a reply.

  • Sorry OP, shipping not free on Kogan first..only selected post codes

  • Holy crap my kettle (this exact one) broke 10mins ago and then I see this immediately.

Bought it just over a year ago, was good but today the LEDs went weird and there were no more beeps. I couldn't tell if it was turning on or not, then later on it was boiling but then kept boiling on and didn't stop until I had to pull the jug off the base. Seems like thermostat busted?
I've sent a message to Kogan to see what they can do because I'm pretty sure the item is a major hazard now, could definitely shatter the glass or blow some fuse, overboil, overflow and burn some people, but of course they probably don't care as it's out of warranty.

But just an fyi to people considering buying this. From some of the reviews I read, a lot of issues with the lid at the start, or about a year in for other problems.
