15% off Nintendo eShop, TCN The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub&Bar/Restaurant, Google Play Gift Cards @ Coles

8329

Saw this today at Coles.

15% off gift cards including Nintendo eShop, The Kids/Teen/Him/Her/Cinema/Pamper/Pub/Bar/Restaurant gift cards and Google Play gift cards ($50-100 only)
Starting 25/11 ending 1/12

UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame.

UPDATE 2: some people reported that JB-Hifi has lifted the restriction on $500 max Gift card purchases, so you could try your luck. Please buy max 5 cards only and leave them for other people (including me, haha, got none so far) so everyone can have a smiling Black Friday purchases.

PARTY IS OVER. Well done to those who got the cards. Pity to the people who could not get the cards (me too, tried 5 times, gave up, friend gave me few cards). What a good deal with such a shameful operation that left many people frustrated.

got a second batch of cards at lunchtime as we decided was more at jb we wanted. they were just loaded with funds not long ago so bit more that 5 hrs if that helps… phone to try to get it done asap like first batch was no good even with one of my calls back to tcn being with guy that helped this morning… there system must be in true ozbargain meltdown lol

  • Looks like jbhfi are limiting the cards Top Ryde said can only use 5

    • dep if you get someone who follows the managements directive for limit.. some have been lucky , not me though…all good its still a $75 saving on top of the sale discounts

    • +1

5 cards or $500 of cards?

Was planning to go there tomorrow morning and I have $500 across 10 cards.

      • Yeah tried to use 6x $100 him cards for a coffee machine

    • Unlucky, I was there too, I said it was under managers discretion

  • Went to Coles at Indro QLD, didn't have any but was told they were all taken down due to the issues mentioned by people. Although I did see someone walk away with a bunch of the cards in hand, might have just missed any that were on shelf. Although by the sounds of it maybe I best wait to see if issues still persist but it does just sound like a delay in credit showing on the gift card due to the volume people must have been buying today. Wont get another chance to go look until the weekend, so fingers crossed they have a few left over. I did manage to find the Swap GC's in Woolies though if people were looking for them.

    • I brought some Nintendo card, him /her /kids card, and swap for eBay. My Credit card looks a bit ugly.

  • Got in touch with TCN over facebook, the following is their response:
Cards are showing up in our system and will be loaded within 24hrs.

  • I bought $50 gift card, do I need to scratch the pin to check the balance? It went through smoothly through the counter and have stated $7.5 discount.

    • Yes,you will need the pin to check balance

      • And what if no balance?

        • wait, wait and wait. TCN said within 24 hours.

          • @ce5himm: I have not scratched pin yet to check but when i do and say after 24hrs pass and no money still then what.
Coles receipt says active and i just asume it has the money or will.
But coles would just laugh at me trying to return a card with pin scratched off.

            • @bwatt72: well, if you do not want to scratch, then you will never know. what's the point of buying this. even if you want to buy something, you will need the pin, and then you will know whether the transaction went through or declined. without pin, this is just a piece of plastic.

              • @ce5himm: All cool did scratch the card for pin and was funds on card, i waa just curious if there was never funds added who would be responsible coles or the guys who do the card.
As so many had issues i was just curious how this would go as both could just said it was used.
To be honest its crazy there was issues in first place dont normally show pin on card until i use or have retailer do it.
And as i had got one i thought i better see if i got what i paid for sooner than later.

  • Snagged 3, all approved..

    • +2

I think there should be no problem on coles side national wide to sell these cards approved(if they are willing to sell). Tcn is slowly loading the money to people's card, at the end, everybody will be happy. Use these card at JB is another story.

  • +1

It's bloody confusing. So many types of him and her gift cards. But none of the ones I see at copes are by thecardnetwork

    • Yes, I scouted them yesterday just to make sure. And then this whole fiasco this morning smh. Now I don’t know if all that work is worth the damn 75 bucks in savings…

      • All the ones I find are by the ultimategiftcard

        • +1

Yep these are the ones I mistakenly purchased :-(

      • Yeah definitely not worth the headaches for me

    • +3

Yeah I read and reread this thread and STILL managed to buy the wrong HIM cards (turns out my local coles had sold out of the correct cards). Managed to find the correct HIM cards at another store and now the original incorrect cards will go to family for birthdays presents over the next year so no real skin off my nose, but man I was annoyed at myself this afternoon.

      • +1

Welll atleast you will make someone happy with those giftcards.

      • Yes I got a little confused at first but managed to purchased to get the right ones.

  • +3

    1225: 5 x $100 cards purchased.

I last checked the balance about 1520 and nothing. I just checked now and all 5 cards have the balance loaded.

  • Birkenhead point coles staff were told me earlier today that there was something wrong with the 15% off gift cards and that they weren’t letting customers purchase them

    • Same thing happened at my local. They have cards but won't put them on the shelf until "the system is fixed"

  • Businesses must clearly state:

    • all conditions and restrictions on use of the gift card
    • the expiry date of the gift card, including the activation expiry date for cards that need to be activated
    • any limits on the number of transactions

This is from ACCC. There was no sign at Coles saying you could only use $500 worth of these cards at participating retailers, so surely what JB is doing breaches the regulations?

    • they follow their manager direction on the 5 cards limit in JBhifi

    • They can do whatever they want if you buy gift cards you take the risk they don’t honour them. That’s what exactly I was told by consumer protection in WA.

      • -3

Having lived in America I can confirm that ACCC is nothing but a toothless tiger. There's very little consumer protection in this country.

        • +1

ACCC is there to tell consumers what are retailer’s rights and what you cannot do to go against them. I was once told by consumer protection instead of claiming in home warranty through the manufacturer I should bring the 65” TV back to the retailer for warranty claim. I said it was a 65” TV it would be risky not to damage it without the box I had already threw away and was told just put in the back seat of my car!? I asked if it could put that in writing so I can share on social media for a laugh then it hanged up on me.

It has actually been in The Card Network's terms and conditions from the outset.

      Source - https://thecardnetwork.com.au/pages/terms-conditions

Someone posted about this limit days ago here. It looks like JB Hifi weren't aware of TCN's terms and conditions until late this afternoon when it then starting enforcing this rule.

Out of stock at Coles Hurstville station!

      Been that since 6AM

Bought at 12:30pm and $100 was there at 630pm. Just wait people :)

    • Which suburb?

    • Wish I was that lucky to snag one of them!

  • +2

Drove to three Cole’s in Sydney. None at any store. Surprise surprise

    • I walked to two local Coles. No luck :(

  • +2

Brisbane’s Sunnybank, Pinelands, Garden City, Upper Mount Gravatt, Mt Gravatt Plaza, Greenslopes, Carindale and Rochedale stores all said they completely sold out this morning with queues of people grabbing hand fulls. They’ve been dealing with disgruntled customers since this morning due to the $0 balance issues.

A couple of stores did mention that they are expecting a second batch to be available on Friday if you’re willing to wait two days.

    • Wow what a surprise those areas sold out early….

    • We ran out at 7.01am, unless you were prepared to fight for one against 25 other people you missed out.

  • +1

I bought at 1:45pm and still hasn’t loaded yet so looks like loading times are getting longer.
Good thing JB is open to 9pm tonight!

    • I bought at 3pm Queensland time
I reckon the person who loads the credit probably knocked off at 5pm so maybe tomorrow morning

    • How your one going? I bought about same time. Mine still showing $0

      • I checked at 8:30 and loaded so I just got to JB now

    • bought similar time…still nothing

      • One card just show balance. Gonna check other cards now :) to bad jbhifi closing soon. Have to go to store tmr

        • Yeah nothing yet.
          Got 40 mins to go.
JB HIfi price matched Lenovo Chromebook so essentially grabbing it for 289

I successfully used $1250 worth of a mixture of HIM/HER gift cards. JB staff member knew about the $500 max however were happy to work with me. I ended up "purchasing" 2x Robo vacuums worth $499. I instantly returned them and was given a JB gift card which were both worth $499. I gave the $1 remaining on each to charity.

So there are ways around the $500 max, good luck to those who try in the coming days. I was successful in saving around $155 on my new iPhone 12 mini 128gb. Definitely worth the hassle that came with today

    • -1

Am i not a true ozbarginer?
I feel awkward if I have to scan so many cards and "instantly returned" them :(

      • +1

lol, gotta do the hard yards for the discount

  • +1

Purchased 2 today and used them 8 hours later at JB Collonades. Was declined at first but manager said make sure it is a regular eftpos not gift card.

Got a Restaurant and Pub/Bar card. Going to try one of those on the weekend see how it works.

    • what does it mean 'regular eftpos'? is that what the cash register person needs to select to make sure it goes through fine?

I suspect there should be a balance in the gc first?

      • When the cashier first tried to put it through she probably selected gift card as opposed to eftpos. Hope that makes sense.

        • ah make sense.

The instruction on the restaurant gc also the same, to use eftpos.

It got me thinking now…whether you can use restaurant gc to buy grocery or electronics that provide eftpos payment…hm….

          • @BigLeviathan: Won’t work. The eftpos network knows the merchant type.

            • @bargain ben: darn! I thought it would.

As I see westfield giftcard does the same thing, use savings for payment - unless it can detect where the merchants are located…

  • Picked up a few $100s at Airport West and Essendon Fields at around 6PM. Here's hoping JB Hifi let's me use them!

  • Why are people converting cards to JB cards when you can use the TCN cards there anyway?

    • +7

      to get over transaction limits.

      • How? keep buy and returning to get jb hifi card?

    • I thought they couldn't be used to purchase jb gift cards?

  • How do you convert to JB HIFI cards.
I tried buy gift cards on jb hifi web site but says that card number incorrect pr not 18 digits

    • +1

Can't buy them online, need to go instore to buy the JB gift card with the TCN card. Brother was able to go in and grab one of the blank JB gift cards and nominate an amount to put on the card which was $1,000 and they had no issue putting it through

      • in theory that is not allowed. same as the $500 rule. in the end, all depend on who you are dealing with.

  • I asked jbhifi queens st
Max is $500 for the TCN gift cards

  • +4

This TCN company is very dodgy with their shitty T&C. At first these cards don't have JBHifi so nobody bought them when it was on special. I'm not sure if they even have anything related with Ultimate series card yet they confusingly name their card same as the Ultimate series. If there is nothing related b/w these 2 companies then it is blatantly dodgy practice.

    • TCN is mastercard essentially from what I can work out. I'd say they are a fairly reputable company.

  • I reckon if you want to convert, you got to buy an item and then refund it for store credit.

  • Some HIM cards don't have the JB hifi on it, if purchase them, can use in JB hifi?

    • +11

If they say look like this then DO NOT BUY
If they look like this, then they're the correct ones

      • +2

        Someone please pin this post!

      • There is another version of TCN Him cards but no JB hifi logo on it. I wondered if it is old packaging but may actually work at Jb hifi now. Didn't take the chance though.

        • Yea I saw the same too; most likely an old packaging.

      • Just check the back of the gc, if it has TCN logo, you are good

  • Went for a big walk and past 3 Coles stores and all sold out. Gave up and went home.

    • Wow 3 coles stores in one walk, damn good effort!

      • Perks of living in the CBD. I wasn't the only one on the hunt, each store had multiple people around each stand, one store employee even yelling at people to step away and social distance from each other!

  • I try to use $1450 worth of a mixture of HIM/HER gift cards. Though store is very quiet (around 6pm) But JB staff (Wollongong Central store and Warrawong store) refuse it and said only maxium $500 one transaction, also indicate buy an item and then refund it for store credit is impossible, they can not do that. So it there anyone try successd in Shellharbour HOME store? that's my final chance

    • Buy in another and refund in another store

  • They took away JBhifi?
    https://imgur.com/gallery/TYEmx1K

    • Nah old cards. Where did you find somewhere with this many in stock!?

      • If they are old cards, would they be usable at JB then?

        • better don't take risk with especially with this dodgy company.

        • yes mate, ive used them before

        • Yeah they will - acceptance is based on what's on their website currently rather than what was printed on them at time of original distribution into stores

          • @digitalane: In other words, there could be a possibility for JB Hi-FI may no longer be a partner and then we may no longer be able to use it there?

  • Can pls someone confirm, if i buy multiple Him cards suppose $50 worth of 15 can i use all in one transaction? Some says no limit at Jb some says upto $500 only. Also as those already activated by Coles, do we need to acticvate again? Thanks

    • The 500 limit is def set and the ach store aware of it as of late this morning. Its a lucky dip if you find someone who doesnt care about the memo to enforce it

      • The JB I just went to had signs saying a max of $500 only and they were pretty strict about it.

        • +1

I think if they are gonna be aholes about it, i'll just go the route of buying 500 dollar items and refunding them. An inconvenience for pretty much everyone involved -.- .

          • @cathole: Yeah I agreed looks like that's what I have to do to use 1.5k of these cards

    • +1

The HIM and HER cards I saw didn't have JB Hi-Fi on them, and the older ones don't scan with the 15% discount. It's only the KIDS and TEENS cards that seem to scan with the 15% off and show they're usable at JB.

That being said… bought 1 to try around 4pm at Reynella, SA (Marion store wouldn't sell them, as they were aware of many problems), it still says "Active" but $0 balance. Just as well I didn't buy 5. I want to… but I'll wait til it's fixed.

What happens if the money isn't loaded onto the card, we've scratched off the panel to get the PIN… Coles won't issue a refund then.

These cards suck from The Card Network. The older ones with the yellow card from Ultimate Gift Cards, I could buy one (even when on sale or part of a FlyBuys promo) and the money was there to spend straight away. Grrrr!

  • Are these gift cards deal come often?

    • +1

I've never seen Nintendo eshop cards at 15% off before, only 10% off after Xmas and Easter.
