Thomson Hibachi Tabletop Grill $49.99 (Pick up in Store) @ Coles Best Buys (Selected Stores)

1190

Saw the deal in store at Coles Burwood East this arvo. About 10 left when I bought one.
The cheapest I have come across online is $60 at Kogan not including delivery.
Part of the coles Bestbuy catalogue starting on Friday. Available in certain stores (participating stores listed on last page of catalogue online).
Not big enough for a party but small and compact for maybe making some yakitori skewers for a small family.

  • Any OzChef here can comment if I'm too lazy to fire up the BBQ, would this be a good idea to use to cook a piece of steak?

    Thank you!

      Yes it will be

But it's just as hard to fire this up? If you just want to cook one steak and you are lazy you might want to use gas or maybe a cast iron grill pan on electric. Or maybe if you are really lazy a george foreman

      • Oh dang, I thought this is the easy to fire up version lol.

I just want that charcoal maillard reaction on my steak lol

      • Almost certain cast iron pan is better for steak than a grill

Gordon Ramsay has a pretty good foolproof method

        • Almost certainly false.

It is a matter of preference, you can't get smoky flavour (such as adding applewood chips/charcoal) as you can with a hibachi grill compared to cast iron.
Charcoal cooking can get you much higher temperatures and a much higher sear as well.

2 Sealed and 1 opened in Clemton Park, NSW.

  • Just bought one from Ivanhoe. 8 left in stock

This is a terrible grill. The coatings flakes off. The internal charcoal holder will break the first few use. Will not recommend

  • About 11 left in Wyndham Vale.

  • FYI, keep in mind outdoor usage is very limited. I only used my Heston bbq at home given that fire/coal restrictions are everywhere…

    • Those ever dure bbqs are mice but exe for a small coal barbie

  • Any in WA?

    • I’ve seen some in Bunbury Coles and was told there should be more at Australind Coles

  • What's the easiest way to light up those charcoals? douse them lightly with petrol? [serious question, albeit dumb]

  • Just grabbed one from Bridgewater Coles. About 20 left, the extra grills are hidden in a box on the stand behind.

Been meaning to get a fancier Hibachi (the $200+ ones) as I love cooking over charcoal. And particularly tasty sticks.

But wanted to try these. Some bad reviews but regularly online for $70 or so.

At $50, no brainer - worst case it falls apart and I've made a couple of good dinners, best case it does the job!

I dare say if it falls apart or cracks after a few dinners just box it up and take it back to coles, they should refund you.

  • thanks OP. got one. plenty of stock left in Armstrong Creek, Vic

  • anyone seen available in the perth metro?

  • About 6 left at Belmont NSW coles.

  • Anyone seen any in Inner west Sydney? Thanks

  • Just noticed my one has cracked after 1 use. And I'll probably keep using it until it falls apart.
