Cheapest price ever, I think cashback is also available, only downside is slightly long delivery time of 2 weeks, with 5600x now around $540, this is getting better in value

Note: sometimes Amazon just glitch out and price jump to $1000+, just wait half an hour and price will drop back to per title

Price increased from $664.29 to $664.47 on 11:11 16 Dec

      • I’ve heard supplies are even worse than that from AMD for these cards

  • I doubt you would get this in 2 weeks, my last order from Amazon US for my Intel i9 is now due for receiving maybe …. Feb 2021.

    • When did you order it?

Is there cashback? I thought zero for computer stuff

  • What mobo to pair with this?

    • Here's my 2 cents,
Get a solid b450, like a Tomahawk or something.
If you plan on using a pcie4.0 nvme drive, or plan on using a Radeon 6000 series GPU (for Smart Access Memory support), get a b550 instead.
If you're hardcore and require multi-gpu and multi pcie4.0 nvme drives, get an x570.

      • Get a b550i there’s been some good deals lately on Aorus.
The newer boards should pair better with the newer chips

  • Apparently the 5800x runs very hot compared to 5600x and 5900x, anyone have thoughts on this?

Any reason for 4k gaming vs just shoving an nvidia 3080 into my i7-4790k?

    • I'm wondering the same thing. My 4790k has been going great since 2016.

      • 4k gaming won’t push the same high frame rates as 1080P… so maybe not. Hold off?

TomsHardware looked into exactly this. Basically at 4K you'll be slightly bottlenecking the card, getting roughly 10% less performance.

Article is worth a read and quite short: https://www.tomshardware.com/features/nvidia-geforce-rtx-308…

      • Thanks. 10%-30%

Now to consider that my mobo possibly has a dodgy memory controller or isn't compatible with my ram.

I've had instability issues since I built it. Dropped from 4->2 sticks has helped massively. But it's not quite there until it's on one stick, which only gives me 8gb of ram..

      • You're a legend! Thanks for this link.

I bit the bullet on this. I think it's decent value. A lot of reviewers had issues with this CPU because of it's price to performance. When a 5600x or 5900x have been priced greatly and they perform really well, a 5800x struggled to make a name for it self. But now that it's 100 dollars cheaper, I think it's decently priced for its performance and you get that 2 extra cores over the 5600x. As well, the 5600x has increased in value. It will be a bit of time before we see discounts on the 5 series, so if you're building or near future, I recommend it

    • Yep.

    • Woops, was meant to write "if you're building now or near future"

  • It has gone back up to $815 now

  • Ozbargained!!! :(

    • It's a glitch when they adjust for currency fluctuation i think, price is back again

It's $1,378.65 plus delivery now, sold and shipped by Amazon US lol

  • Upgrade from a ryzen 7 3700x, worth the jump?

Still cant bring myself to buy one of these, the price point doesnt make sense given the application/ performance. Sigh going to wait for the 5900x

    • Same here. I just can't do it and I know if I do in 6 months I'll be pissed I didn't get the 5900x. Just going to have to wait I guess and watch my 2700x be worth nothing by the time 5900x is in stock. Lol

  • Back down at 664.47 with late January for availability.

I think Intel is better, it has more core number in processor, cheaper and has a reputation of better quality and reliability. Also Intel can do 3D graphics, the AMD CPU can't. You can't play games on the AMD CPU but with Intel CPU you no need pay more to get 3D video game.

    • Your username suits the post, because you are dreaming.

  • Anyone hear back from amazon yet? regarding the order

    • I cancel mine lol, nobody want to buy my 3950x

    • Eta updated today: 12 March - 2 April
Is amazon just managing expectations or is that actually a realistic timeframe??

      • did you get an email saying the eta is 12 march - 2 april?

        • No it says that on the order status page
