        Thanks mate

      • +2

No click and collect for NSW frustrates me as I'm not going to be able to get to the store this weekend. Paying $13 for delivery kinda takes away from the deal..

    • +5

Putting this in the top comments so people don't miss it.
      Use Code 10GIFT or BIRTHDAY10
      For $10 off

      • Or Welcome10

      • No Click and collect Qld, but there's one up the road.
The code pays for postage otherwise

  • +4

Remember it should only be about 10% of your body weight. Obviously there’s some variability in terms of surface area of the blanket, but use some common sense with kids or light adults with/without a disability.

      • +3

There are different sizes. Click on the link, choose a colour and there will be a dropdown of the sizes

      • +20

Healthy BMI and average adult are two different things.

    • +4

Can they not stitch two different weights together then? A 9kg would be fine for me but wont be fine for thr wife

      • i have a 6kg queen sized blanket folded over not sure if they make one big enough to even attempt that in your scenario

    • +10

Damn, I need to get one and a half blanket then

    • +11

      3.4kg: 91 x 122 cm
      4.99kg: 104 x 152 cm
      6.80kg: 121 x 182 cm
      9.07kg: 152 x 203 cm

I did some calculations and found the weight per surface area are all similar (about 3 kg/meter square). Since the surface covering your body will be the same, does this mean all these different weights sold will feel the same?

      • +7

I’d say so. I don’t think it matters too much for most people, other than comfort/preference.

The reason I commented is that there has been some deaths and injuries when used inappropriately with kids with disability. I could also see this being used as a restraint with frail people with dementia, which wouldn’t be great.

For most adults who can remove it from themselves if they want to, whatever feels comfortable is good.

  • +9

What's the purpose of a weighted blanket? What's in it?

    • +121

Keeps the bed from flying away. Weights.

      • +22

True, but surely it’s also for people too busy/lazy to go to the gym while they are awake - wake up ripped AF 👍🏻🏋️‍♀️

    • +8

there's a bit of proof (I've read 1 study) that it kinda alleviates anxiety symptoms and helps with going to sleep. kinda feels like someone's holding onto you

      • +28

Or someone is suffocating you and holding you down depending on your weight

        • +3

Being cradled by your mum isn't a false sense of security

      • it's freaking creepy when there is no one at all

      • True, very over exaggerated in some advertisements with how they feel

    • +1

It gives you a false sense of security. As if you're an infant being cradled by your mother.

    • +3

i didn't know either, then i bought one for no reason. i actually like it. feels like someone is hugging you. doesn't make it warmer, just more pressure on u. its a pain in the but to travel with, so i just keep it at home.

  • +12

Time to buy one and gain weight to 90kg

  • +2

If you're buying it for anxiety, spend a bit more

    • +7

      a bit more

      Sees Neptunes at >$250.

      Oooooh lordy this child…

  • +3

I have the 7kg one. Coverage felt lacking. Didn't feel like it was much bigger than a single blanket.

  • +1

Ok..so your dreams are grounded with this blanket I imagine ;)

  • +3

Do you need a separate cover/sheet? Otherwise, how do you wash this?

    • +3

I was thinking about this too, found on their link.

      Washing Instructions

      Hand wash.😬

      Machine Washing Instructions
      Do not machine wash.
      Bleaching Instructions
      Do not bleach.
      Drying Instructions
      Do not tumble dry.
      Ironing Instructions
      Do not iron.

    • +1

They have the version with a washable cover
      https://www.spotlightstores.com/bed/bedding/throws-blankets/…

      Cost a fair bit more

      • +1

Southport (QLD) had both cover and no cover for $39 the girl acknowledged it shouldn't be the case but said they would honour it.

I happened to show up as another lady was querying if they had more with the washable cover. Otherwise I would have just picked up any.

I ended up getting a 6.8 wish washable cover :D

  • +2

I have one and like it, but it is hot. I haven't been able to use it all since Spring

    • Click and hold a bit longer on the button "go to deal". It shall open up few options as in "Open in new tab", "Open in new incognito tab" etc. Open in incognito tab to save on these trackers of FB, Google.

      • +1

Damn, that was for /u/stublu. Chrome working wired :(

        • Chrome working wired? That's unpossible!

    • Those waffle blankets are fine for Qld :)
Otherwise got a down doona that are the opposite of heavy, pretty comfortable.

I can imagine the weighted ones are heavier due to the portion hanging over the edge too.

  • +1

Would the 9kg be suitable for 2x 60kg to share on a double bed?

    • I've got a similar sized one and tried the same but found it too narrow

    • They're quite small, not the same size as normal double bed sheets / blankets. I definitely found one per person is better.

  • +1

If I weigh 80kg, better to go lighter or heavier?

    • +1

I would go heavier. The weight difference in the blankets comes from the difference in size. The 9kg one is a bit longer and wider and is better at covering your whole body without your feet sticking out during the night.

  • +16

I prefer one to one ratio. So at 77kg I’m thinking of going all in and getting 8x9kgs so I feel like I’m being ganged on.

  • I assume these are quite warm?

    • +12

Certainly if used with a Dutch oven

    • +1

nope, just heavy with sand, beads, or something.

      • Sleeping under sand or beads sounds like it would be warm.

        • Could put it in the freezer first

        • Especially recently used anal beads

    • I don't have this brand, but the weighted blanke I have is warmer than a normal blanket / quilt. I have to use my fan at night!

  • this brand is terrible. sheets don't last a year…avoid

  • +3

Since clicking on that link my FB feed is full over weighted blanket adverts from about 6 companies.

    • +3

A large amount of websites will have Facebook & Google API embedded, without anti-tracking extensions like Ghostery you are basically still on Facebook a large amount of time you are at other websites.

      • Yep, that's installed on my PC but I opened it on my phone.

Have done this.. Then you just get random ads not interest based ads?

        • Yep. Way less creepy.

    • Ebay is the (profanity) worst for this for me. I research one product, and that category is all I see for the next several weeks.

  • +1

Somehow with a 9kg I still manage to roll out of mine. Or maybe the other half is taking it off me. I've yet to figure this one out.

    • +3

You manage to get Clear of the blanket

  • -1

I use about 20 of them stacked every night. Get a 2-for-1 get some shut-eye plus an intense gym workout while-u-sleep.

  • perfect for the summer, especially today was a high of 32.

  • but.. why?

  • +13

My mortgage is the best weight.. Always around

  • +1

I can understand how this would help you sleep better. I always sleep super soundly when I lie on my tummy and one or both of my cats curl up on my back or shoulders. The pressure is comforting.

  • Holy crap that is affordable. When these first got talked about I thought they were never going to go below a hundred

  • does this work if you sleep naked?

    • +16

      Will keep ya boner down.

      • +4

is this a genuine discount? how real is the rrp of $160? kogan sells this for $50 everyday https://www.mattblatt.com.au/mb/buy/ovela-bamboo-weighted-bl…

    • Good price for bamboo if your on a budget. I have a bamboo one and i can use it on some summer nights if cool enough

  • +2

Got one for my gf, she loves it and she's sleeping much better and from what she's told me it helps her fall asleep much faster.

  • -1

Amazon has the 11kg for $49

  • +3

No thanks, I carry my weighted blanket under my skin.

  • Pricing on website has updated

  • +1

I have the bamboo one from calming blankets and it's perfect for summer, stays nice and cool but cost heaps.
