@Flying Ace: you're welcome - glad to be of service and thankyou for the civil discussion :)

      • +4

The reason why it HAS to taste like meat because those of us who refrain from eating meat due to moral compunctions have eaten meat through quite a substantial period of their lives. This was sufficient to create mental habits / tendencies that generate craving for it (I will not get into the mechanism of how craving works here). We just want to satisfy those cravings and at the same time avoid hurting other sentient beings.

I believe that those who have never tasted meat would not have those urges or at least not on the same level.

        Cheers

Surely if you're against the slaughter of animals for food, you wouldn't want your diet to consist of products that look and taste like meat?!

You can enjoy the taste of meat and not support animal abuse. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Would take NYP with a grain of salt. Owned by Rupert Murdoch's New Corp. You know the one that owns Fox News that was a Trump mouth piece.

NYP is more of a gossip tabloid than a serious newspaper.

      Has someone just brain-farted?

    • Did you consider their life expectancy and living conditions when determining how successful they are?

  • can this barcode be used more than once. each Monday?

    • Also wondering this!

  • Do these plant based burgers taste like meat or they have their own unique taste? I have enjoyed their other vegetarian offering like Garden goodness and would prefer if plant based burgers have their own taste.

    • +1

There are several plant-based patties to choose from: veggie, mushroom and beyond-meat. I only tried beyond-meat and it tastes very similar to meat, right down to the texture. Other patties probably don't taste like meat.

  • I haven't tried the plant-based burgers. Hope they are not too oily.

    • They're certainly not the veggie mush atrocities you have probably experienced in other stores.

  • Does this deal include the Beyond Burgers? They mention ‘our plant-based patties’ unless they’re taking ownership of Beyond patties.

Yes,T&Cs from the email I received

    Dine in only - boo

    • +5

Yeah not even valid for takeaway/pickup. Very disappointing.

    • +1

Oh that's lame. I wanted to have one now and eat one later

      • I'll be doing this anyway :)

    • +2

I have never had an issue with getting takeaway when I go in to order. Just came back from getting takeaway 2 for 1 actually.

      • Yeah, not sure what's the problem to ask them for a bag if someone really need some disposable packaging…

Some people just can't even without all the trash.

      • +12

I've had issues (but granted, not all the time). Twice they refused and would only allow it to be provided on dine in plates.

Of course, I approached it in true ozbargain fashion and pre-emptively bought a plastic container with me. Ate the one burger dine-in and wrapped the other in napkins and put it in my plastic container :)

        • +3

I've done this too a few years back when they had store opening free burgers. Ordered a cup of chips, ate those first and half of the burger. Rest of the burger fit into the chip container. They even gave me a paper bag for the chips lol.

Another time I was more prepared. Had the perfect, round decor container to fit the burgers. They brought it out on a plate, I left before they knew what I'd done 😂

  • +1

It taste ok, but you definitely can tell it is not real meat. And it taste much worse if you buy the real one also and eat it one after another to compare, at least for me.

  • +3

So disappointed that not for takeaway !!!!

    • +2

Ask for takeaway when you order but bring a suitable container(s) if they refuse.

Ozbargain is such an interesting tool to use as a cross section of the opinions of the general population. Most deals that don't interest people get no comments - but throw in the word 'vegetarian' and every Tom Dick and Harry want to tell us their opinion on why it doesn't interest them. It's almost like the entire flick has been switched on the whole "how do you know someone is vegan - they will just tell you" joke to now be for meat eaters who can't help but add their irrelevant 2c.

    • +15

It's been nice to see the gradual switch though over time.. Not long ago the "how do you know someone's vegan HUR HUR" crew would get the upvotes but now they get called out and downvoted to oblivioun. There's definitely a shift taking place, it will be interesting to see where we are another 5 or 10 years from now. It helps that vegans have logic and compassion on their side, while the omnis counterpoints boil down to "bUt MaH bAcOn".

    • +3

Ive read through most of this thread and there isnt really much discussion, criticism or bullying of vegans. Most of the comments are either about the specific cooking methods used (same grill or seperate grill), the actual nutritional information (fat content etc), people that like the non-meat products passing on their experience and frequently their praise, disappointment that the deal is for dine-in only there is even some discussion about workplace relations and how Grill'd pay their employees. What little discussion there is on veganism could be interpreted as either questions from non-vegans or, in one case somebody upset that similar 2 for 1 deals aren't available for other parts of their menu (i'd argue a discounting question which should be totally expected on Ozbargain).

I'm not seeing anti vegan comments from every Tom Dick and Harry.

      • +8

Fair point - not necessarily specific to this post but have a look back at every other time this particular deal has been posted and it's usually the same old rigmarole.

    • +5

As soon as i saw plant based, i came looking for those comments and wasn't surprised to see them. Also see sjw thrown around now which is new

  • +6

As a non-vegetarian, the beyond garden goodness burger is incredible. I just ate two of them, thanks for posting OP.

  • -5

I stopped reading at 'plant based'

    • +5

Thanks for calling out your short attention span

    • Were the rest of the words too big for you?

  • Can't sign up to their app, I never get the verification code via text message

    • ok nvm, it just took 17 minutes for it to come through

      • The question is: do you see this offer in the app? I don't in mine…

        • ….

        • I do. It's a barcode separate to the membership one.

          • @silverrat23: Thanks, I see it now. Yesterday and in the morning my Relish tab was full of various other deals.

Now I only have this one here.

        • Supposedly it takes upto 20 minutes, but the first time I didn't get it, I deleted my account and created it again and then it showed up after 15 mins

  • +1

I've recently gone vego, mainly to support my kids and anyone who thinks these burgers are as good as real meat is honestly deluding themselves!! I mean, they're not bad, I ate two tonight. But they're not as good as the regular grilld burgers by a long shot imho.

  • +2

    Dine-in Only

Pass. I haven't eaten out Since March last year and won't be again until I'm vaccinated. I'm even avoiding take way. COVID has forced me to save a but load of money I use to waste on dinning.

To be honest, doubt I'll ever really go back to dinning out regularly. The thought of communal plates and cutlery now just seems disgusting. Putting a lot of faith the dishy out the back is doing their job correctly.

  • I can't help but think that the reason these plant based burgers have taken off is because they are just so much cheaper to produce.

I think it's a cynical attempt to market something as 'good for the planet'. I'd like to see the real justification for that. It's still a highly processed food with absolutely no evidence it's any more healthy then a conventional burger. And from what I've seen a cheap product priced (coincidentally of course) at the same price, thus boosting the bottom line.

I'm all for eating more vegetables, but don't fool yourself into believing this is any better for your health or the planet.

If you really cared for your health and the planet then you would be doing what vegetarians have been doing for centuries. #India.

  • Sorry if this has been answered but does this include garden goodness or only the beyond version?
Has anyone tried takeaway pickup rather than dine in successfully?

    • Yes I did. I think it depends on the store and the person who serves you.

    • Depends on the store and the staff.. I went it with my partner last Monday and we were asked if we wanted to dine in or takeaway by the staff..

  • yikes, their app has 1.7 stars on Play Store

    • Because these bastards don’t pay their staff.

    • Yeah it's pretty bad. It doesn't let you order sometimes or if you go into a different section of the app you just lose your order completely. Codes often don't work and sometimes you can't even get to the menu. It must have been made in-house because you would be asking for your money back if you paid someone to make it. It's been bad for years and they won't fix it.

  • I wonder if I can order a few meat patty on the side and toss the vego burger patties out then this becomes a brilliant 2fer

    • Swap out the vego patties and have them for salad.

  • One more reason to hate Mondays

  • I'm off to the pub for a counter lunch… lets hope the rump steak is juicy today

  • They used to have a bacon and cheese plant based burger(but with real bacon and real cheese). Shame this one isn't available anymore. I would go with my vegan friend.

  • They allow one burger to be boxed up for takeaway, while the other has to be eaten inside.

Good compromise for those who can't eat two in one sitting (like me).

  • Anyway know if this is still on?

    • Email from last night said today's the last day

      • Dang didn't know this ended, would be good to be able to stack this with Latitude cashback

    • Interesting. Its still available for my friend (not on ozbargain) and me according to email.

      • It's gone on the app for me, and there's an FB post on it too

      • Unfortunately you are correct. I thought I might have been targeted for whatever reason but I was unable to get two for one last Monday.
