[VIC] Electricity Supply for Low Energy Users (6-21 kWh/day): $0.49225/day + $0.23551/kWh (GST-inclusive) @ QEnergy

1220

Hi!

I went looking around for good energy deals which I do at least every 2 months and this one popped up on the Victorian government comparison site. I'm in Victoria (Jemena) and if you can find a plan under $1 daily charge you are doing pretty well.

GST inclusive rates

  • 49.225¢ per day
  • 23.551¢ per kWh

The per kWh rates aren't the best but if you are a low energy user like me it's gonna be competitive.

I haven't found any sign-up credits or cashback offers to combine as yet but I'll update if I do.

      • Price will change from 1-Feb, you probably won't see it with your normal retailer. You can see all what the true cost of your distributor charge by searching your distributor pricing proposal 2021.

This is the upcoming changes from Amber email update.

"What do these changes mean for you?

Overall, many energy costs are going down this year compared to last year.

Wholesale electricity prices have fallen by 22% over the last year, largely due to the impact of more renewables being built, lower gas prices, and reduced business demand through the COVID-19 pandemic. Because you’ve been getting pass-through wholesale prices, you’ve been seeing the benefit of this reduction, every day.

On the other had, the cost to purchase and surrender environmental certificates to the Clean Energy Regulator has increased slightly this year.

The Essential Services Commission has also approved an average 9% reduction in the per kWh fees that electricity networks can charge for use of the poles and wires to supply power to your home."

yeah thats how they operate their scam, have read a lot on it and how they get you is they massively increase the rate randomly, then keep giving a billion excuses about not being able to supply you invoices or billing info until you give up on them, then after say 5 or 6 months they give you a collective bill at that scam rate lol

I think as long as you monitor every month what rate you're getting and cancel as soon as they start the scam you're good.

If this has happened to you, did you contact the energy ombudsman (EWOV for Victorians)?

The contract specifies a monthly billing cycle for those households equipped with a smart meter.
If you don't get you bill monthly with the correct rates then take them straight to the ombudsman.

@DoctorCalculon: It has not happened to me, I was considering to switch to them but then I did some research and found an overwhelming lot of complaints. Their daily base rate is half of the majority of the cheapest suppliers and that screams too good to be true.

            Are you affiliated with Qenergy?

      • I'd hope ppl are checking the best deals at least every 6-12 months

… Are there actually deals to be had this frequently ? Everytime I've gone through all the comparison sites, I've never actually made any switch because the savings from the cheapest plan I can find, are less than $50 a year. As per my other post in this thread though, my peak and off-peak and daily supply numbers are significantly higher than what's listed here…

Are there providers and/or plans that don't list on the various comparison sites ? Inc the vic.gov site ?

Im so surprised no one has said Qenergy is a scam cause isn't it a complete scam company? half the price of any other provider lol

Im so surprised no one has said Qenergy is a scam

Would you care to back this up with some evidence?

They are certainly not perfect as I have seen with their seriously dodgy sign up process.
But if they are running a scam, I think everyone here deserves to know what type of scam they are running.

just google Qenergy reviews, do a bit of reading and you will find they are basically running a scam on people who are not super vigilant with checking their bills. Not sure why you feel the need to negative my comment

  • As mentioned above these rates ONLY apply to Folks who are in the Jemena Distribution area.

For United Energy distribution area (mainly SE Melbourne), the rates are 44.979 cpd (supply), and 24.827 (per kwh).

So the supply charge is even cheaper with QEnergy (good for very low users).

For me OVO remains the better option, even with a 59.4 cpd supply charge with my useage at about 400 kwh per month.

At 400 kWh per month, which is a daily average of 13.33 kWh, you would be better off with a retailer like Simply Energy.
Did you run your usage data through the VIC compare website?

  • I did the VIC energy compare after seeing this and it's certainly better than my current rates (GloBird) but then because it's electricity only the savings were dented a lot by needing a separate gas provider which had pretty high usage rates.

Too bad these deal rates aren't available for me (Powercor). They are definitely low enough to do the jump.
