I was hoping it would come with a sausage…..
    waits for comments

    • +44

If after the free trial you sign up and want a snag, come over to my place and I'll cook one up for you with the finest Aldi white bread, onions and tomato sauce :)

      • +17

OH+S wants to know if the onions will be under or over the sausage.

        • +9

Whatever you prefer, the customer is always right!

        • As a regular Bunnings sizzler, have an upvote and thanks for the laugh.

      • +1

Is this offer available for existing subscribers?

        • Nah, you don't need a free trial - you're already a subscriber!

          • +1

            @decryption: I need a snag!

            • +1

@robothat: Oh a free sausage! Hmm, it's COVIDsafe to do a BBQ down in VIC yeah? Should finally do it…

        • +4

Yeah, carn been a subscriber for yonks mate, least you can do is spot us a piece of delicious Aldi white bread and burnt Costco sausage and maybe a can of AC Cola.

          • +14

@admr: AC Cola? Check out fancy pants over here - you'll get LA Ice and you'll like it.

    • -2

Next you'll be wanting a Dickens Cider with that sausage too, right?

  • +8

I pay for the newsletter, but also for access to the Slack - it's a great little friendly tech community.

    • +4

Secret tip, the Slack community is free to join, even if you aren't a paid subscriber. You get an invitation when you sign up for the free trial, so if anyone's keen to see what TRS-80 enjoys about the Slack community there's nothing stopping ya!

      • Hey Anthony, signed up and confirmed email 20 mins ago.

Haven't seen any further emails / invitation to slack? Is this a manual process or am I continually refreshing mailbox for no reason :)
Also, "Manage your Subscriptions" is not seeing my new account (just wait longer kinda deal?).

        • +2

Oh, I forgot to add a link to Slack in the trial welcome email! It’s mentioned in the footer of each issue, but you can use this link to join now: https://communityinviter.com/apps/the-sizzle/sizzle

You can’t manage your subscription yet because you’re not a paying subscriber. There’s nothing to manage besides unsubscribing and that’s a one-click link at the bottom of every email.

      • -3

Sweet. I'm going to stop paying then and just live it up in the slack community.

  • +18

The Sizzle is an awesome Aussie tech newsletter. I've subscribed for years and look forward to it every day. Anthony is amazing at reporting the most important tech stories, especially those relevant to Oz, in a great casual format. He also includes links to really decent bargains and there is also a Slack community for subscribers that's worth joining. I'm lazy and I pay for the Sizzle so I don't have to go trawling the web for this stuff. Highly recommended.

    • Cheers mate :)

    • +2

      Agreed.
Member now for 3yrs I think

    • +1

I’m also lazy so I just preemptively outsourced my opinions on The Sizzle to rkeniger. Happy subscriber for at least a year or two and it is bar none the best daily email in my inbox.

  • +3

I endorse this, long time Sizzle reader, so many interesting links and Anthony's commentary is always great. There's also a great Slack community.

    • +1

      Thanks for subscribing!

  • +4

Great daily newsletter and Slack community. Have renewed twice already.

    • +1

      Thank you for your custom.

  • +2

The Siz is the reason why I don’t need tech RSS feeds anymore, you would be mad not to sign up to this.

    • +3

I 100% agree with this comment.

  • +1

concise and informative - I rate this newsletter - keeps me up to date on many IT stories without having to read many blogs

    • +1

Excellent, glad to know The Sizzle is doing its job.

  • +1

Will give the trial a bash and if any good will consider subscribing. Thanks

    • Yeah! Thanks for having a shot!

  • +1

Thanks Anthony, just signed up and looking forward to receiving the first edition.

    • Will arrive to your inbox tomorrow arvo - thanks!

  • +1

Excellent source of tech news with attitude. Long time customer.

    • +1

Appreciate you giving me money :)

  • Ill give the trial a go.

    • +1

      Beauty, hope you like it.

  • +1

Looks interesting, the astroturfing is a bit sus

    • +3

I can't help it if I have a very dedicated readership that loves to support a little Aussie battler :)

    • +1

No, we’re just rabid. I haven’t looked at OzB today but saw Anthony discussing this post on Twitter and came to throw up a supportive comment. A lot of us have a vested interest in him succeeding as the newsletter is really (profanity) useful!

  • +2

Anthony: "You may ask me three questions"

Me: "Are you really the head of The Sizzle?!"

    • +1

I am CEO and Managing Director of The Sizzle and related enterprises, yes.

      • +1

        Really?!

(I noticed you were a Simpsons fan and thought I'd set up a Simpsons question / quote) 😅

  • Will sign up, thank you. What are the costs post trail if it works for me?

    • +2

$5 a month or $50 a year. No ads, no tracking, some affiliate links.

      • Yep, that’s right.

  • +1

    Thanks!!

    • You’re welcome!

  • How did you go with the Litecoin mining rig back in 2013?

    • +5

lol mate, don’t ask - I out about 800 LTC for 13 BTC many years ago for around $15k (basically broke even). You can do the sums on how much cash I’d have if I held the 13BTC instead of cashing out, it ain’t pretty.

  • +2

Good on you Anthony. Interesting to read your site intro and find out that you are the famous 7,000 X 1c transaction guy that scored all the frequent flyer point! Will give it a shot also

    • +1

Yep! That's me. Got a lot of mileage (literally) from that story. Glad I cashed all those points in for flights before COVID.

      • Good effort, I'll give your newsletter a try, not the 1c transactions BTW

  • +1

Subbed. I used to love Mactalk so much.

    • -1

That's a bad sign, when someone is in tech.

      • +2

I'm not in tech, I was a 17 year old kid who liked Apple lol

    • +4

MacTalk! May it rest in peace.

  • Being an old fart I have been out of touch with tech stuff the past few years. Will happily give this a go and see what I have been missing out on! Cheers :)

    • Go Techguide from Stephen Fenech.

      • Thanks for that, will have a read :)

    • A few old timers enjoy The Sizzle, keeps em young :)

  • Been subscriber since day one, brilliant summary of the relevant geek news… no need for RSS feeds etc… only compliant is the email newsletter number sequence got thrown out a few times… oh my OCD…

    • +1

(profanity) up the issue number hasn't happened in a while - probably due for a stuff-up soon.

  • Subscriber here, recommended!

    • Thank you!

  • +1

Been subscribed to this for a couple of years. Anthony’s commentary is worth the price itself, not even accounting for the time saving of not having to sift through all the different sites.

He’s worked bloody hard on this, so if you’re on the fence subscribe away as it would be a shame to lose one of the best tech journalists in the country.

Oh and some folks might remember mactalk.com.au which Anthony used to run (before it was sold to niche media and run that the ground).

    • +1

(profanity) Niche, spewing they ruined MacTalk.

  • Subscribed will check it out

    • +1

Thanks, I hope you like it!

  • It's good value, tech news without the bs.

    • Exactly my aim - can't stand it when the spin doctors and hype merchants get involved.

  • Maybe, depends if you own a smartphone?
Thats a true sign of tech.
    Ie what device/platforms?

    • +1

I do lean more towards Apple, but try and mention Android and Windows stuff often.

      • So you own an iPhone instead?
AS someone that has been reselling Apple products for 30+ years, I try to avoid them as they treat us retailers poorly. If they treated Customers like Apple treats us, people would respond differently.
Their profit margins are horrendous, and we would be better off selling cigarettes, or petrol. I feel sorry for small computer guys. trying to make a living on an iphone that gives them $15 on, and is gobbled up by Credit card fees.

        • +1

I used to work in an Apple reseller! Apple are absolute dogs when it comes to their retail partners. They've dicked over the repair partners too. Ratbag of a company, but damn the iPhone is good. I rock two phones most days (iPhone for me, Android for work stuff) and still prefer the iPhone.

  • Long time subscriber here. Definitely worth giving it a look if you haven't. I use it as my main way to keep up to date with tech news as Anthony has a good mix of aussie and international stuff in there each day. Now no need to browse a bunch of news sites that are screaming at me to turn off my ad blocker

    • Thanks mate, glad to be saving you from ad-blocker induced psychosis.

  • Absolutely love the sizzle - been a subscriber for 2 years! Keeps me up to date with a great vibe 😊

    • +1

      Happy to be of service!

  • +1

Subscriber, always look forward to the Sizzle every day. Always contains something interesting, Anthony's writing style is funny and BTW Anthony you forget the best bit… your Sizzle Subscription is Tax Deductible, just keep your monthly invoices stashed for when you do your Taxes after June 30 :)

  • The Sizzle is definitely a highlight of my days. Well worth subscribing and it's quite cheap. Give it a go.

    • +1

$5 a month! A Big Mac costs more!

  • +1

I thought Sizzler closed in australia,

    • +2

No! They still exist in WA and parts of NSW. Here's a picture of me outside one somewhere in Perth: https://imgur.com/lY2t9Pa

      • They have now all closed down sadly!

        • +1

          You're kidding? I'm shattered

          • @decryption: "On Sunday, after 35 years in Australia, Sizzler will close its remaining nine restaurants. The restaurant chain's parent company Collins Food said it made the “difficult decision” after they struggled to recover from slow sales during the peak impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.Nov 13, 2020" *sigh

          • +1

@decryption: Don't be shattered, be happy you have good memories. I went a couple of months ago because it was closing and I wish I didn't.

            • @fivespice: hahaha, quality isn't the same as an adult as when you're a kid

  • +4

the fact that you were devo about sizzler has made me sign up to try lol

    • Thank you fellow fine dining connoisseur.

  • +1

The fact you have no required payment details on signup makes me feel like you must be a good person, now to see the news side of things xD

    • Absolutely - it's a dog move to ask people to pop in their card details for a free trial. People forget and it's a pain to cancel. It's a pain in the arse for me as it requires more effort to chase up when the trial is done, but it's the ethical thing to do imho. Most businesses don't do it as Stripe (or whatever service they use to process credit cards) doesn't support free trials unless you sign up with a credit card.

  • Subscribed coz… fomo..

    • Welcome to the club!

    • You won’t have that soon - you’ll be in the know :P

  • Have you considered a partnership with Tony Martin's SizzleTown

    • Bloody love that podcast, don't think the legendary Tony Martin would waste his time with me though.

  • +1

Been a Sizzle subscriber for ages now (think even since Day One) and it’s one of those subscriptions I don’t question continuing each year. Love how it regularly draws my attention to articles I would have otherwise not come across. Anthony’s commentary is also a highlight!

If you’re interested in tech, give the trial a go - you’ll thank me later for having done so

    • +1

      You've convinced me damn it.

      • +2

Nice work JeffreyM, recruited a new sucker subscriber :)

  • +2

I don't think this amount of positivity is allowed on ozbargain… :P

    • +1

I put on my flame suit for nothing, it's very uncomfortable.

  • I've never been so excited about giving my email address away.

    • +1

Damn, I'm gonna have to write an awesome issue today or I'm stuffed.

  • I reckon I was Day 1 subscriber.
    Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Actually thought when I moved O/S it might be less relevant but nope - it made the annual cut of subscriptions without a second thought.
    Get on it!
PS. Also looking forward to a snag when time and geography allows!

    • Snag and a beer soon I hope.

  • +1

Well, the combination of OP's humour and the astroturfing persuaded me, even though I've been out of the industry for 15 years.

The confirmation email confirmed that I'll enjoy the newsletter.

Oh, and I'm looking forward to the snag too.

    • +1

There better be an Ozbargain deal for sausages soon, I'm gonna be buying in bulk.

  • +1 for this deal. I think Anthony is the best consumer tech journo in the country and his newsletter is fantastic. Well worth the $5 a month and for free, even better!

    • +1

"best consumer tech journo in the country" please tell all the PR reps this so they give me more stuff to play with and review

  • +1

The sizzle makes me look smart and informed with my friends!

    • That's literally why I started The Sizzle - I was talking with friends who had no idea about any of the tech related news I was talking about, so I figured if they aren't up to date, there's probably lots more people out there also out of the loop.

  • +1

thanks Anthony I was looking for something like that and came across this post! just signed up.

    • Perfect timing, enjoy!
