Due to the recent HFC technology shortages and the potential demand on our call centre, we feel it is important to manage demand and as such, we have decided to put our existing customer Focus on Fast promotions on hold.

If customers decided to upgrade their plans now via MyAussie, the system is ready and will apply the promotion (provided the service is eligible), but we will be holding off our communications of Focus on Fast to existing customers until later this week.

Plans not available at all premises. Only redeemable with an existing active Aussie Broadband nbn™ service. Current nbn™ plan must be held for a minimum of 3-months prior to the upgrade to be eligible to receive the discount.

Customers are eligible to upgrade to any supported plan above/faster than their existing active plan

Update. Thanks to kain0rer

They've scrapped the need for being on the same plan for 3 months, it's now as long as you haven't been on the same plan you're upgrading to in the last 3 months.

Yep. It's a NBN promo that Aussie are passing on.

No reward for loyalty these days.

      • Maybe because the majority of customers are not loyal at all XD

      • NBN Co don't need to worry about loyalty as they know people need the Internet, so loyalty isn't their game. Although, when 5G becomes "the norm", hopefully it will make them competitively drive pricing down.

    Left this provider for Superloop.

Couldn't be happier! Asked ABB to price match SL and they said no. 3 mins later I was with Superloop. Super fast churn! Super fast speeds.

It really seems like these companies are the ones just sending you the bills. We owe them nothing. ABBs service and support isn't unique and it's filled with bs like you read above ^

    • 3 minutes seems to be a bit of an exaggeration. If you said 4 minutes I might have believed you ;-)

    • Moved to Superloop from ABB couple months back due to the price rise.

Unfortunately customer support for Superloop has been basically non-existent, in our case anyway. Never had any issues with this on ABB.

Service itself has been (mostly) good and similar to what we had with ABB. ABB was probably just a little more consistent speeds wise particularly in busier times.

  • +1

Reading though this thread and directive by some ABB sales people to churn, I’m wondering if ABB sales staff are expecting customers to return and for the sales persons to then secure some big signup incentive/bonus.

    Something makes no sense

    • From what I was told by someone at ABB, the investors pay to subsidise the plans to offer these deals, so it's not ABB giving new or existing customers a discount, it's other invested parties who pay to get people on the books.

      • NBN subsidies these pricing to ISPs.

        • That's what I thought but the rep at ABB said otherwise. They did say SL was getting discounts from NBN.

          • @[Deactivated]: I think the rep you spoke to made some stuff up. ISPs are bound to NBN WBA agreement.

      • +2

So ABBs corporate greed is losing customers by not passing this on. Great!

  • +1

Just thought I'd share my experience.

I was on the 100/40 plans that got nerfed to 100/20. No plan voluntary plan changes ever. Always been happy with them in general (apart from the up speed nerf obviously). Decided to call them just then to ask about the promo and try to switch over to the 250/25.

After about 10 minutes with a rep that sounded super flustered and unsure, the conclusion was "I can switch it over for you, I'm about 90% sure you're eligible. If you end up getting charged extra just call us and we'll fix it up for you". I replied "Yeah it seems as though the deal was thrown together at a moment's notice in retaliation to Superloop's promo" and he said "That's exactly what happened".

I can definitely see why people are switching over to SL but I rely on my connection for work and the service itself has been super stable so whatever.

    • +3

Dude, the service is absolutely mint at SL. No word of a lie. I've not had a single outage since being with them since mid December.

I'm on the 250 plan and my speeds have always been between 255 -265mbps

      • +1

Mate I was with SL for the past 4 months, but the number of outages was insane. We would have outages 3-4 days of the week, all between 9am - 2pm. Decided to switch to ABB and never looked back. YMMV I guess.

        • +1

That sucks to hear.. on ABB I was getting about 10mbps upload out of 20.

On SL I'm getting 23mbps upload out of 20.

    • Your experience is a mirror image of mine.

  • I upgraded to the 250 plan. They better not charge me $129… Didn't say anywhere that it's $99 when I did it….

    • Aussie BB said on whirlpool.

The MyAussie Portal will still show the normal pricing, as per the T&C's of the promotion, the discount will appear on your first month's invoice after the plan change is completed.

      • +2

Yeah read that earlier. Just hoping it actually works. I also screenshotted the screen I clicked showing 99 so of they argue I can send it.

        • +1

I just changed my plan by calling their customer support and on the same boat.
Not showing discounted price on the myaussie app frustrate me…
I hope the discount applies when the plan changes in three days as per the T&C's.

  • I recently moved back from superloop last week… So basically I am ineligible…. Guess I will move elsewhere again

    • You have to wait 3 months to be eligible.

  • I joined ABB Friday. Just called up. Told it won't apply to me.

    • You have to wait 3 months to be eligible.

      • +4

Yep. Churn to another provider. Simple. You owe ABB nothing.

  • +2

Thanks for this, Have jumped ship from Launtel back to ABB for 6 months. To be completely honest though, Launtel have been the best ISP I have ever had. Will be going back when the discounted price finishes

    • What's so good about Launtel? I've heard some good things about them but what are the key differences between them both? Price?

      • +2

Launtel do daily charges instead of monthly. They let you pause and turn your service back on within minutes and there is a $30 standby plan.

    • Launtel can only offer me 250mbps, not 1gbps and I have FTTP

  • A lot of people mentioned superloop are their IP as sticky as ABB?

    • SL is sticky or $5 a month for static IP.

      • Is that still the case? I've read mixed reports about static IPs being free. Either way $5 is fine since several dynamic DNS services cost around that much anyway.

        • There was a free static IP offer but it's expired. Now back to $5 a month.

    Nice deal, thanks OP

  • +7

Aussie Broadband has lost favours with Ozbargain. Period.

  • +1

According to rep on WP 75/20 plans cant upgrade to 100/20 or 100/40 for the same price because 75/20 is considered a shaped 100mbps plan. If so that sucks.

    • Yeah ISPs have to shape down speeds.

    • I think it is not entirely true. It all depends on the nbn network you are in. FTTP/HFC has different AVC bandwidth profile than FTTC, FTTB/N. If you are on FTTP 75/20 considered as 100/20 (Home Fast) and eligible to go either of the higher tier AVCs like 100/40, Home Super or Home Ultra but if you are on FTTC then it is a different ball game altogether. I have read the nbn Focus on Fast rebate document for RSP and that is what I can understand. It is still early days for the RPS to catchup and train the team, I guess.

      • +1

        From what I can gather.

75/20 on FTTP you're eligible to change to discounted 250/25 or 1000/50.

75/20 on HFC you're eligible to change to discounted 250/25 or 1000/50 if available.

  • +2

100/40 for $89/mo is normal with Mate though. Great customer service too. Where's the deal?

  • +1

We were on the 75/20 so not eligible, moved over to Superloop 100/20 for $75 a month for the first 6 months. Will look at options after that 6 months are up.

  • i am not eligible neither. I have been with abb since may last year. just because i down to 75/20 on Nov for their price hump.

    • You can wait a few weeks to be eligible or change ISPs.

  • +5

    This has been my experience.

ABB admit to a NBN wholesale pricing mistake and increase my bill from $89 to $99.

Months later and they offer only new customers the $99 deal for $89.

Today they offer existing customers the $99 deal for $89 only if your not at the maximum speed (I'm at maximum speed).

What kind of business decisions are these? Are they trying to piss off their existing customers? It's absolute nonense and they are asking to lose customers.

Well after 10 months they lost me to Superloop. 20 minutes and one phone call to ABB and the change was finished. Same $99 plan for only $75. And I read the shocking reviews about Superloop's customer support, too bad I rarely call customer support.

    • +1

Yeah Aussie BB stuffed up with the price increases.

These new discounts are coming from NBN. ISPs are just passing them on.

  • +8

Not available in MyAussie app due to the weird conditions. ABB is pissing off the existing customers.

    • -1

      Again….

      • Superloop 1000/50 - 3TB Data plan ($119.95 per month for 6 months, then $139.95 ongoing). Is that the one you are on?

Do they enforce the 3TB - then fallback to 100/50 once 3TB download exceeded?

        • Yes they do enforce it.

  • +5

This is really poor treatment of existing customers from ABB. I gave them the benefit of the doubt with their steep price increases last year, but customers on higher tiers don't benefit at all from this "deal" unless you downgrade for 3 months then upgrade back to the tier you were already on, even though they'd likely be the same monthly price. How illogical is that? Why not just let customers port to the discounted price, considering there's no monetary difference?

First time I've started looking at alternatives, entirely as a result of their schizophrenic decisions lately.

    • Churn to a different provider (and get a referral discount code). After a few months, if you want to, churn back to ABB (assuming you grab a referral discount code), you might be able to get the new customer rates.

It doesn't appear to be an attempt to allow existing customers to get a discount. It is more about enticing existing customers to upgrade to a faster (but more expensive) plan. Only ABB customers who have been on the fence on upgrading to a faster speed plan could potentially benefit from it (for 6 months) - though in most cases, that still means pay more per month. The only exception is people on 100/20. I guess they can switch to 100/40 and pay less (for 6 months) - they would want to switch back to 100/20 after 6 months I reckon.

However, to be fair, I am not sure about the Superloop situation. The 6 months special can only be done once I think. It's easy to claim that Superloop is much cheaper, but the reality is that it is the switch which makes you a "new" Superloop customer (though after 6 months, the standard price is generally $10/month cheaper or more).

If price is an issue, just switch provider. The only minor benefit from ABB compared to Superloop is the VOIP line (which most people don't care). VOIP line switch tends to take longer (and while you can switch to pure VOIP providers, DID (which is needed to keep your existing phone number) is not free from pure VOIP providers (but not going to cost $10/month).

      • Someone asked if 100/20 plans would get discount if they move to 100/40

        They got told no…

I’m on 100/20, will ask also

        • So 100/20 to 100/40 is not an upgrade… wow… if so, then ABB really just want to entice existing customers to spend more.

          • +1

@netsurfer: Got told I would get the discount, even though price shows as $109, will be discounted at invoice time.

        • +1

I got told yes so moved from 100/20 to 100/40 for $89pm

  • +4

ABB = just a more expensive version of Superloop. Fancy billboards, sponsoring cricket teams and fancy tv commercials. I recommend you spend 5-10 mins churning to Superloop and save yourself some cash.

    • +4

Certainly, Superloop is more appealing (price wise). However, it is unclear to me whether Superloop treats their existing customers way better.

Most OZBers signed up to ABB either with 1 month free or 6 months discount. Wouldn't surprise me that some, if not most also used a referral code (for additional $50 off). So, if those things were significant factors for those OZBers who signed up, then price is actually a factor (not necessary just better service). I know some people might have wanted to be with an above average provider (service wise) for the initial NBN setup / connection. However, eventually, money will be a strong enough factor (otherwise why visit OZB).

Most providers don't offer real goodies to existing customers. I get the strict must be an upgrade is really dumb, because if ABB really thinks about it, the customers currently on one of the bigger plans are the customers you really want to retain. Again, I don't know how Superloop operates, but I would be surprised (in a very positive way), if you switch plan in Superloop, you re-gain the 6 months discount. I certainly get it is at least $10 cheaper per month argument, but that's more you want a cheaper provider. Most companies just don't want to give their existing customer decent discounts.

Anyway, this deal doesn't save existing customers money, at least that wasn't the intention. For those who are eligible, while you do get faster Internet, you do have to pay more (maybe not so much in the first 6 months). However, unless you received zero discount whatsoever when you signed up to ABB initially, it is not really a huge issue. If those initial goodies had worn off, it's certainly up to you to decide whether you want to move to a more cost effective alternative.

  • oooooh darn i have a new order that will be connected later this week for the 1000/40 plan @$149 / month, but i cannot upgrade any further for savings! getting penalized like 30 bucks a month!

  • Just to confirm - Is the change ( promo ) effective from the next billing cycle or immediately? Thanks

    • Next cycle, essentially.

If you upgrade immediately you'll be charged for the difference in plans, then the discount will appear on your next invoice for the following months (since you're invoiced for the upcoming month)

  • For what it's worth, I didn't get an eligibiltiy email (cause I've unsubscribed), but I upgraded and confirmed via support that I get the discount.

If you upgrade "immediately" (as opposed to scheduling it to your next billing cycle), you have to pay the gap between your plans. But discount will kick in on the next cycle

  • Tried chatting to a rep, but they said I was ineligible because my plan changed recently but it was ABB that increased the price of my plan 2 months ago

    • You can wait 1 month to be eligible or change ISPs.

  • +3

Gonna churn to SL, ABB is going downhill.

    • Mine went through within 30min.

      • +2

Same here, signed up this morning and switched over to SL within 30 mins. I like ABB but they keep stiffing existing customers might switch back if they have better deals in 6 months time.

      • My churn took 5 minutes on a Saturday

  • Confirmed via chat I’m eligible for the promo. I’ll give ABB 6 more months before I head to SL

  • +2

Not offering existing customers paying $109 for 100/40 (highest price in the market?) who can't upgrade even a token discount is poor form

Used to be an AussieBB cheerleader but I ported away to Superloop yesterday

It took than 10 minutes from hitting submit order on the Superloop website to my HFC modem losing connection to being online again with a Superloop IP, very impressed

Speeds and ping are pretty much identical (maybe slightly better) and I'm now paying $88.95 for 6 months rather than $109

  • So is it confirmed not for FTTN customer?

  • +1

Raise $10, then discount $10 by fooling people they're getting a bargain.

  • Currently on Superloop 1Gbps for $149/m, will make the move to ABB 1Gbps $119/m for $30 savings per month

  • When does this "FAST30" Promo run until? I'm currently paid up to the 15th of this month with Superloop and they won't refund the difference

    • 31 July.

      • So it's 6 months discounted from connection date, or only until July 31st?

        • +1

6 months discounted from connection date. The deal itself expires 31 July.

  • I am on the 1000/50 Plan and been on this for over 6 months now. Can I get this discount applied for the next 6 months?

  • -1

For six months only…. this should be permanent

    • That is up to NBN.

  • They make it overly complicated.

I changed my plan through the app, invoice has been generated at $109 for 100/40.

Contacted live chat, tried to tell me I didnt meet the minimum 3 month requirement because I changed my plan in Jan 2020…pointed out that's over 12 months ago.

So get told they can't help me and I have to call. Why can't it just work?!

      • Yeah, my invoice has already generated with the incorrect amount.

        • That's 💩. For some reason Aussie BB prefer calling and their web chat doesn't get used for everything.

          • @Twix: Finally got a chance to ring. Rep sounded very unsure of himself (probably new).

After a short hold he put through a credit on my account.

Checked my account after the call ended, $10.00 credit instead of $20.00 applied. FFS.

    • This is why I emailed them before changing asking to confirm the costs..Liek you, you'd think this should all work online and not having to call them

  • I rang ABB yesterday to get the $89 deal.
They tried a few excuses - need to upgrade to get the deal. I'm on 100/20, so said move me to 100/40 (it's still $89).
Then got the "you need to be on the plan (100/20) for 3 months" - I was, but in November they jacked up the price from $89 to $99. Same plan, but they changed prices.
Then after the rep spoke to someone, said they were told to go ahead and do it.
Logged into the portal today and saw $109/month. Called up and rep said I'm not eligible and I'd been charged a "account change" fee. So I've asked to reverse it all, put back the way I was and will move to Superloop like all the recommendations on here. Thanks OzBargainers for the advice. To be continued…

    • Hmm they seem to be forgetting what made them popular (or one reason anyway)

  • Move on man, please. I have 2 abb hfc connection and will move on. All the customers who are paying top dollars are the one with higher per head spendings. They are the one you want to keep, abb.

  • 100/20 plan here. phoned aussie, rep told me that I am eligible for the discount if i move to 100/40. But he hesitated when i asked him to process the plan change for me, saying that "I should wait for the promo email from aussiebb". He couldn't tell me when I'd get that email.

I then tried via chat and the chat rep also told me that i am eligible for the discount if i move from 100/20 to 100/40, and was happy to process the plan change for me. The chat rep also said "check your invoice on your next cycle and contact us if the amount is not correct". Chat rep was Tyler.

The email i received confirming the plan change stated $109 per month (so did not reflect the discounted price).

So will see what happens on my next cycle. But I have the chat transcript saved so will be able to make sure they don't rip me off.

    • Yeh, bit of a shemozzle

    • Update: received invoice for new cycle and discount is included

      • Same.
