Due to the recent HFC technology shortages and the potential demand on our call centre, we feel it is important to manage demand and as such, we have decided to put our existing customer Focus on Fast promotions on hold.

If customers decided to upgrade their plans now via MyAussie, the system is ready and will apply the promotion (provided the service is eligible), but we will be holding off our communications of Focus on Fast to existing customers until later this week.

Plans not available at all premises. Only redeemable with an existing active Aussie Broadband nbn™ service. Current nbn™ plan must be held for a minimum of 3-months prior to the upgrade to be eligible to receive the discount.

Customers are eligible to upgrade to any supported plan above/faster than their existing active plan

Update. Thanks to kain0rer

They've scrapped the need for being on the same plan for 3 months, it's now as long as you haven't been on the same plan you're upgrading to in the last 3 months.

  • I'm with TPG and out of contract.
1 - Will I be charged an exit fee to switch to another provider?
2 - Which one of these providers can I use to connect my Tenda MW6 directly to the NBN box and lose the modem?
(I'm hoping I will be able to do so with Superloop)
3 - Sop to switch ISP just go to the provider I chose website and connect then when Its done call TPG and disconnect?

Thanks for the help in advance

      1. Call TPG about your potential exit fees. TPG ask for 1 months notice.
      2. Aussie BB, Superloop, Vodafone, Telstra, Launtel, Belong.
      3. That's it and change to DHCP in the MW6 settings.

        Thank you

Cool. I did all this ad it’s up and running. The speed on wifi is only 170ish but connected to the MW6 it’s 257.
Trying to get to advanced settings on the MW6 router but I can’t log into it.
The guys at superloop told me to have it connect to 5mhz all the time but I can’t manage to get into these setting via the browser

        • Download a wifi analyzer to check if you are connected to 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz. Did you signup for 250/25?

          • @Twix: Yes I did. Flawless connection in 10 minutes. Was getting 50 down but I reset the Tenda and started getting 170 up but not the 250. Went to the Tenda site and it says it should be on 5Ghz and shouldn’t need to change anything

          • @Twix: I go to the Tenda site to get into the router settings but the page times out

I see a lot of hate for ABB because of the drama around the reduction in upload and the increase in prices. But s*** happens.

I've been with them all - iiNet on ADSL for 15 years, Uniti Wireless for at a place with no NBN, then when NBN came - ABB for 6 months, then Superloop 6 months, then Launtel, then back to Superloop, now back to Launtel.

I've never had 250 down and now that it's on offer on HFC for $99 a month, that's the best price for 250 down so I will give it a go and port tomorrow.

I wish NBNco had 250/40 plans but what can you do.

Do I really need 250 down? Nah, I am on 50/20 at the moment and sure, it takes 40 minutes for a 4k TV episode, which isn't long and I have Sonarr and Jackett doing that automatically most of the time in the background anyway. But for $1 a day extra, I wanna try it out.

Honestly, you people yapping about "oh my my, $10 or $20 price difference between ISPs is ruining my experience" - I still remember dial-up days on bulletin boards where images would download a line at a time, and it would take me 12 hours overnight to download a TV episode in standard def.

    • mate ur in for a shock going from 50 to 250

Just called. Rep said only for new customers.

      • +1

I just called and quoted the promo code. Rep wouldn't budge

        • The code is for new customers. Upgrade by logging into your Aussie BB account.

          • +1

@Twix: i have already upgraded and received a future bill, which states $109. i called to confirm that it will be $89. rep said no. wtf am i supposed to do

Adam @ABB Aussie Broadband ISP Representative
Your MyAussie portal will still reflect the normal pricing for the plan but the discount will be reflected on your next invoice as per your billing period. The change takes effect as soon as the plan change is completed, you will not have to pay for an immediate change.

              • +1

@Twix: ive emailed aussie bb for clarification. hopefully the rep was wrong and the invoice is wrong. otherwise its straight to superloop i guess

  • Was just informed by ABB that because I am already on the highest tier plan available I am once again not eligible for any promotion as an existing customer..

"Thanks for getting in contact. To be eligible for the discount you must be on
the lower plan for 3 billing cycles and then the discounted price can be
    applied to the higher plan."

Their suggestion was to move to a lower plan for 3 months in order to get the discount lol.

Time to port out, I guess. How a company can be so tone deaf and consistent in its incentives for existing customers to leave I'll never understand.

    • The 3 months to be eligible is an NBN requirement.

      • +1

That's fine - What's not is consistently rewarding 'new' customers and incentivising people to port out and back in again, just like telcos.

Being punished for being an early adopter and long term customer feels like the new normal

        • Again that is NBNs doing with the 6 month offers for new customers. Yeah changing ISP gets you the best offer.

    • Same boat. Will be porting out. No idea if I'll be back with ABB, especially with everyone offering six month deals. Very disappointing.

  • According to the linked T&C's need to still be 6months/180 days since last an ABB customer to be considered a "new customer".

Does anyone actually know if that is really the case to be eligible for this promotion?

    • Yeah 6 months.

  • When I select 100/40 as a new customer, it put the FAST10 code in for $10 off - FAST30 comes up as invalid

update: FAST20 gets it to $89

    • The code is working for me. Have you been with Aussie BB in the last 6 months? Did you use https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/lp/freakinfast ?

      • +1

        I used that link.

This is my first account with AussieBB

The 100/40 was not shown unless you "build your own", so I selected it that way.

FAST10 was applied automatically, bringing the monthly cost to $99 for 6 months.

FAST30 would not work on the 100/40

FAST20 brought the monthly cost to $89 - so I went with that.

        • +1

Thanks I will update the deal description.

  • How long does the porting take from superloop?

    • +1

      Usually <1 hour.

      • +1

        Thanks
        was just about to update
My porting process for SL->ABB took approx 55min from the order, rebooted the router and now all good.

        • Did you call superloop to cancel first?

          • @Bargaphile: No, I just ported, then I received a text to confirm I want to close my SL account, after I replied I then received confirmation my account was closed.

  • I was on ABB's 100/40 plan for $89, which then got nerfed to 100/20 and priced up to $99. I've had no problems or outages, their customer service had been great, and I almost consistently get about 10% above my 100/20. This seems like an excellent find so why all the negs?

    • I guess that's from those who had their plan increased by $20 a month, don't qualify for the deal and don't need Aussie based tech support.

  • +1

In the Aussie app, it shows the full price and no where to enter the code, or do you just proceed with the upgrade with full price? the charges are automatically adjusted?

    • That’s what they told me. If you’re eligible, price will automatically adjust..

Which I told the rep was stupid, as they couldn’t tell me then and there if I was 100% eligible

Just said if on the lower speed plan for 3+months I’m eligible.

      • Thanks mate, silly approach I agree. I'll call in the morning to to upgrade.

  • On their highest consumer grade plan, their ultrafast plan, since the day it was released and referred multiple customers to them because I used to rate them.

I cannot get the discounted plan without moving down for three months and coming back up.

Poor excuse advising its NBNcos criteria that its only for EUs [End Users aka Customers] who move up plans. ABB are going the way of the large telcos.

"The rules are simple, the Eu has to be on the same plan for at least 3 months and they need to be able to move up to a higher tier plan, unfortunately you're already on the higher tier plan so the promotion is not viable for your service. As it stands the only work around are to as you said move your plan down for 3 months then move it back up or churn to a new provider as the promotion also can be applied on a new order to a different ISP."

Don't waste your time like I have, go find yourself another provider, hell even ABB told me to do so.

Note: I get the business justification behind it, NBN will not give them a rebate in my scenario… but it is amazing that they'd rather get rid of me than extend any gesture of good will.

  • +1

Just scheduled my plan change for next billing cycle, was advised that the eligibility has changed.

They've scrapped the need for being on the same plan for 3 months, it's now as long as you haven't been on the same plan you're upgrading to in the last 3 months.

    • Thanks, description updated.

      • I called ABB - they said that this wasnt the case, and that I needed to have been on same, lower speed plan for 3 months. According to T&Cs https://aussiebroadband.com.au/forms/legal/focus-on-fast-ter…
"A lower-speed plan must be in place and active for a minimum of 3-
months to be eligible to upgrade to a higher-speed plan and receive the
        promotional discount. "

Reading that, it seems to still be the case..

        Cheers

  • The useless pricks are billing me 109 even though I have clear screenshots that my plan I changed to is 99 for 250megabit. So much for service. Sent in a message and got a stupid response saying that's why I signed up for 109, when it clearly isn't. I'm really getting sick of these guys.

    • I'm assuming this is going to happen to a lot of people once their new billing cycle begins with their supposed 'new plan cost'

      • It still says 99 on their website and the helpdesk guy is arguing it at me. It's a no brainer. Ended up getting this sh!TS and calling them. Apparently sorted now but will see when next bill comes.

        • For what it’s worth, my new billing cycle was today, and my invoice was correct for the discounted amount.

  • Do referrals work with these new plans?

    • Nah you can't stack deals with referral. You can use referrals later.

      • As in give someone else my referral link to use?

        • They can use this promo or your referral. Not both at the same time.

  • I've contacted Aussie Broadband call centre to check eligibility and upgraded the plan to 100/40. When I hit the next billing cycle and plan change took place, they've issued the invoice of the new plan, but invoice is showing the full price, instead of discounted price.

When I approached the call centre about 10 days ago, the assured me that I am eligible for the promo, and they have glitch in the system which will soon be fixed. I haven heard anything back yet, and the invoice is still showing full price. I've also contacted them through email about 2 days ago, but noting.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

      • +1

Oh no… I better give them another call lol
The only reason that I signed up with them was their reputation of good customer service, but now this… Hope they fix this soon…

        • +1

Yeah call up. I find their email replies can be delayed.

          • +1

@Twix: Well, i am glad i posted my issue and called their support again.
Aussie Broadband Staff member told me that the promotion is correctly applied to my account, but invoice was issue at full price.
The staff member temporarily "fixed it" by giving me discount as a credit.
I was then told that new invoice from next month should show the discount.
I guess i will have to follow up when they issue the invoice next month!

  • so now you just sign up with the code ( new customer) and pick the plan you want ie gigabit and the discount is applied to your Account ?

    • +1

Yeah put the code in @ checkout.

      • is it a total of 6 months from the date i sign up ? or is the timer already counting down ?

        • +1

          From the date you signup.

  • I changed from 250/25 to 1000/50 and saved $10 which is nice, but… Im only hitting 395down and 34 up. I care mostly about upload so was hoping it'd be closer to 50, especially because before the faster plans were available I was on 100/40 and it would be at 39.8 up all the time.

    I probably should've stuck with 100/40

    • What router do you have? Are those tests performed on Wi-Fi or ethernet?

Sometimes you need to tweak the upload settings.

      • Ethernet. Archer C7 V2 with Open WRT. Not an issue with router as i tried a direct line straight to PC just to test speeds.

        • +2

Does it have a hardware NAT option? Routers usually need hardware NAT for fast connections and sometimes it only works properly with stock firmware.

        • The Archer C7 is hitting NBNs policer and that is why you're only getting 34Mbps upload. Purchase a router or Gigabit switch that allows you to shape egress traffic to 49Mbps and that stops hitting NBNs policer and your upload speeds will be closer to 50Mbps.

          • @Twix: That's not true. I used to get 40mbps stable upload when 100/40 plans were the best. The day after new plans were introduced it never went over 34, and usually hovered around 30. I also know many people with the C6 which is worse, and have no issues hitting much much faster speeds than me. The C7 is a gigabit router so i have no idea why you're saying to buy a gigabit router.

            • @Cannix: It is true. On 100/40 with older routers the upload speeds performs as expected. Moving to 1000/50 can give you average upload speeds. The fix is to shape your egress traffic with a new router or using your old router with a Gigabit switch and your upload speeds get closer to 50Mbps. There is a 20 page post about it on whirlpool.

              • @Twix: I tried this. Installed SQM Package for OpenWRT, enabled it and set limit for Upload to 50MB/s… Upload speed on speed test didn't change, tested with multiple runs

                • @Cannix: What about if you set it on 47.5, 48 or 49Mbps?

  • App/website only showed normal pricing for 250/25 (existing customer - 100/20). Rang and the guy had a blanket statement "Do the plan change and IF you're eligible, you will get the discounted price".

I had to ask him to check my account twice before he gave in and told me I was eligible. Did the plan change online (showing normal pricing) and email came through immediately stating "The 'Focus on Fast' promotion has been successfully applied, you will receive a $30 discount".

  • So here's my story. I was affected by the reduction to 100/20 from 100/40 and was waiting the 3 months to ask for the discount but then I read in the comments that they were not policing that. I went on the chat and they said only HFC and FTTP were eligible. I am FTTN. They said "is there anything else I can help you with?" and I pointed out that their Terms and Conditions didn't make such a distinction and that I knew my connection was capable of 100/40.. All of a sudden I was offered the original 100/40 for $10 less than I am paying now ($99 down to $89)

    Thanks everyone

  • I was told that as I havent had my current speed tier for more than three months I cant upgrade at the discounted price. I asked him to double check if the terms and conditions had been updated to remove this requirement, he went away for a while, came back and confirmed I'd need to be on this tier for three months before being eligible.

  • This still current?

    • Valid until July 31st.

  • I'm trying to go from 50/20 HFC to 100/40… Myaussie portal still shows me $109. Is that right? Does the promo apply later on?

  • -2

They should rename Aussie broadband to 6 months at an ok price broadband.

  • Two questions…

    1) In the Terms & Conditions it says “ Plan changes scheduled outside of promotional period are not eligible”. Does that mean post the promotion I’ll be stuck on a higher tier plan indefinitely? Or, I can’t make scheduled changes during the promotion that would fall outside it?

    2) Is the promotion 6 months from the moment I decide to change, or, it ends in July when promotion ends?

    Thanks

    • 1) nah you are not stuck on a higher plan after the 6 months is finished.

      2) 6 months from when you change.

      • +1

        Thank You for the reply.

  • When you are trying to upgrade via myAussie where do you put the coupon code in to get the deal? I only see a button to "Confirm Plan Change"

    • Existing accounts don't use the coupon code. The coupon is for new signups.

  • Any returning customers signed up to this recently. I'm with Superloop until the 23rd. I'm trying to rejoin AussieBB from the 24th but it says the promo code isn't valid. Does that mean the code has expired or could it just mean it recognises my address as having an account less than 6 moths ago (5 months, 18 days) and doesn't see me as a new customer?

    • Needs to be at least 6 months.

      • +1

Thanks for the reply. It'll be 6 months on the 23rd. I was hoping to sign up in advance. I'm happy to wait until the 24th though. I have FTTP so connection takes 10 minutes.

        • Yeah FTTP is quick to change ISP.

  • So just to confirm I've read it right, I'm currently on the 100/20 plan for $99/month.
If I change to 100/40 for $89/month via myAussie, my next bill will be for $89, even though it says $109/month on myAussie?

    • That is right. Aussie BB are doing Click Frenzy that starts tonight.

  • Just called up and managed to switch from the 100/20 for $99 a month to the new 100/40 plan for $89 a month. Glad I took the effort to call them.

              • @Plimsol: Yea they had the free upgrade for six months (about now). Make sure you go back to 50 or switch over to another provider who gives the discount.
