    • The payment options are:
      a) pay via your monthly telstra bill, or
      b) pay via monthly credit card direct debit

  • so if I only care about AFL, I now have to pay $5 per month for what i could watch free last year? lame…

    • +8

Except now you can stream it to your TV instead of watching it on a crappy phone screen.

      • I could mirror link it to my Samsung TV from my phones… before Samsung decided to, once again, remove functionality from the only decent apps they've ever made!

        • +1

The NRL live app blocked all mirroring ability a while back. I used to use a MHL to HDMI cable to view games on my tv. Then i mirrored my screen with Chromecast for a while. Then it became impossible.

          • @wombat81: History now. bu you can defeat the mirroring ban using two tablets/phones, play footy on device A and video device A screen on device B, then mirror that device to TV. A bit fiddly but it does work .. :-) .. !!

  • Can't get the offer. If anyone is willing to split with me, please pm! Thanks.

  • Wow biggest cheese ever
Thought it was my work mobile showing up on Telstra account. Is actually a post paid sim data plan that expired in October. Telstra converted it to prepaid but with $0 in case I wanted to activate again.
However doing so enabled me to still access this deal, kayo now showing as $5 even though I haven’t paid a Telstra bill for 4 months
    Let’s see how this goes

  • Worked for me and I only have Foxtel via Telstra.
I had live pass last year via the boost mobile offer (although I am prepaid)

  • Will you no longer be able to watch AFL games thru the AFL app if you're with Telstra ?

    • +1

Yep, no live games on the app. It will force an update if you haven't already and Live Pass is switched off.

  • +1

This will now mean all AFL games are commercial free on kayo?

No more channel 7 feed due to telstra being digital rights holder?

Either way nice of telstra @ $5

    • +1

      It's the Fox feed, yes.

      • Depends on your location. In some cities/regions, if it is a game broadcast by both networks, you get the Ch.7 feed. Seems unbelievable, but it is true.

        • nevermind. looks like you're right.

      • +1

        1080p 50hz 8mbps mp4 stream with 12 channels 24 /7 vs mobile phone potato picture of 1 sport.

$5 is 'ok' as per the comments you linked.

  • Cheers. I intend to port out from Telstra in the next couple of weeks due to price rises, so will apply it now, even though I have the existing $10 discount.

  • Many thanks, guessing it worked thru boost as I had used the NRL with this number (while a Telstra customer).

  • -1

What if you are with Woolworths/Boost etc mobile which uses Telstra?

    • Been discussed to death in this thread already. Have a read back. It looks like the deal is working for some Boost customers who were using a Live pass as Telstra customers in the past. But it's not something that is otherwise available to boost etc.

  • +1

Done and done. You probably won't find a bigger tightarse than me but even I find $5/mth very reasonable indeed. I was able to sign up with my old account without any issues. Thanks for the heads up!

  • Cannot access this offer. If anyone is willing to split with me please PM. Cheers

    • Keen

  • Couldn't get deal even thought it showed me the offer from within the AFL Live Pass app.

Anyone want to share / split their subscription? Please PM. Many thanks!

  • If anyone is have difficulty getting this offer I suggest signing in to your Telstra account with your Telstra ID and go to the My Offers page. If you're eligible it should be there.

  • -1

Im not a telstra member can I sign up for some cheap telstra account and get the deal?

  • Lot's of playing around on the Telstra site… to no avail.
But opened the AFL Live app and followed links through there to get it!

  • +2

$5 is definitely worth it, but it is sort of like a trial — $25 after 12 months and that will be too expensive for most.

The lack of streaming data inclusion is another issue, time to start using WiFi for the new service.

This is definitely, going forward beyond this offer, going to be a huge negative for Telstra and will definitely lead to a loss of customers unless they change their tune and offer the $5 as a proper ongoing thing, rather than just for 12 months.

  • +1

I keep getting an error when trying to sign up:
Looks like something went wrong on our end!
Anyone else getting this issue and know how to fix?

  • Cant get it to work, if anyone is happy to split PM me.

  • +1

I had the afl live pass, prior to 2021
and it let me overide the $15 a month to $5 a month kayo, Thanks op :)
But i think you had to have had the afl live pass for a while before.

    • Hi Sachira, Do you mind enabling private messages?

  • If anyone wants to split theirs PM me..

  • wont work with a Telstra business account

    • Try using this method (credit to JV):

Delete the Kayo app from your phone.
      Turn off wifi.
Click on the link in this post.
Select the option to take up the offer using your phone instead of your Telstra ID.

I have a business Telstra sim - was able to put my own credit card details in (so my work isnt charged for Kayo)

  • +1

You can blame the NRL for killing live pass.

They wanted Telstra not to stream for free as they thought it would affect their future channel nine agreement deal.

  • sadly since my ipad cant recieve sms on a post paid account i cant use this as i cant get the activation code required to take advantage of it even though telstra online says my number is valid for this deal, what a shame

    • Can you put the sim card in a phone to get the code message?

    • I'm sure there is a way to access an online platform to check any SMS'

There is a way with telstra usb wifi dongles, I think I did it with an ipad a few years back

maybe google it and there'll be a thread on telstra crowd support

    • I had this issue too. I just signed into my telstra account and updated the phone number in my account that messages go to 😀

  • -1

I'm having no luck getting anyone to share their subscription (happy to cover the full $5 p/m cost) . I've previously been with Telstra with NRL app used, do u think I could sign up to a prepaid service and be offered the deal?

  • I've got 2 offers for my 1 service;

    one is worded
"Get Kayo Basic for $5/mth for 12mths"
    and the other
"Add on Kayo Basic for $15/mth for 12 months"

Anybody got the same? and whats the chances of stacking here? slim to none?

    • Yes, that's the norm. No, you can't stack.

  • +1

Anyone having the problem where it sends you the one-time-pin, but when you enter it is says wrong pin?

I'm on Boost and got the offer. It didn't show me the first time, when going through the AFL app, but second time around it loaded up and said my number is eligible.

Just can't get past the OTP screen!

    • Mine just sends the OTP to some random number, they need to remove that part of the offer as it clearly doesnt (profanity) work, so frustrating.

      • Yeah, that's just weird. I assume Boost members don't have a "Telstra login" as the workaround?

        • Im using my telstra account as the login.

      • Mine was sending the otp to my tablet sim. I just signed into my account and changed the number in account settings that my messages get sent to.

    • +1

Worked second time around after my first 30 minute lockout, lol. I tried incognito mode the second time and it worked. It's possible I had javascript deactivated on normal phone browser window, which might have messed it up.

  • +1

I’ve been trying for 2 days and can not get the offer working, once managed to almost get to the sign up but now I just get errors and it telling me I’m not eligible, but I am.
Anyway like everyone else here, if anyone wants to have me pay their $5 a month to share the account let me know ☺️

  • Many thanks OP… Great deal and signed up.

  • Thanks - worked for me too at $5. Previously used the free AFL live pass on Telstra a handful of times in past few years. Just churned from Optus to Telstra yesterday, and was able to get the deal today, first attempt!

  • Anyone else have a problem signing up? I went through the link and confirmed that I was eligible. Went to sign up and it reverted to $25/month in my Kayo account.

In my Telstra account under Kayo it says 'cancelled'.

Telstra chat are useless and say there is no one who can help and Kayo say it's a Telstra deal and they can't do anything.

    Now I've been billed for $25 …

    • on live useless chat now..
they said can see I used AFL live and keep asking me to re do
I said it crashed can you do..
      around and around we go

      • +1

just passed it off to support. Third person on dead chat has no idea.
Every time you wait 2 hours for a ping.. Had a year since COVID to fix there chats
        Although put prices up

        • Yes, it's a real bad problem, that chat support; not doing anything for their reputation as everyone seems to have these same issues.

  • On mobile i get “this connection not private .. bla bla bla” used pc but couldnt get it past Telstra verification 😔
Ive had boost for couple yrs live pass.. sux to be me … 😩

  • I meet the criteria (current Telstra acc, Livepass user last three years) but I'm getting a $15 offer and not a $5 offer? Any ideas anyone??

    • I left out the fact that I'm actually getting to the Kayo 'offer' via Livepass .. :-( .. !!

      • +1

        Give this a try:

Delete the Kayo app from your phone.
        Turn off wifi.
Click on the link in this post.
Select the option to take up the offer using your phone instead of your Telstra ID.

This method worked for me using a Telstra SIM but not a Boost one.

        • Thanks JV however 1. I've never had Kayo installed anywhere and 2. I'm piggybacking on daughter's Telstra account so I can't use phone. Unfortunately. Appreciate the effort though .. :-) .. !!

          • @cornucopia:

I'm piggybacking on daughter's Telstra account

Get your daughter to use her mobile to activate for you then.
You can create and use your own Kayo account/credit card once the office is accepted.

(assuming she doesn't want the Kayo offer for herself)

        • +1

Thankyou JV - this method worked for me with a Telstra Work sim card - I still had the option to use my own credit card so my work wasnt billed for kayo.

        • not seeing any offer via phone and instead of telstra id?

          • @[Deactivated]: Maybe clear your browser cache.

            • @jv: yeah tried that, they don't like giving bonus to business customers :(

  • Thanks OP. Finally canned Foxtel probably a year too late after they pumped it up to 68 a month just for HD sport. They offered 29 a month but 39 with HD so I lol’d.

Side loaded on voda tv and it looks pretty good. Had an old Telstra tv box lying around which does 4K upscale that looks sweet with it.

  • Anyone get it to work on Boost?

  • What's the best and cheapest hardware to be able to play kayo?

I have a spare laptop and a computer, but I was thinking of getting a chromecast to be able to just have it start up quicker.. But then i was thinking of getting some sort of 'smart box' for my TV, as I can't get Kayo on it

    • If you always have a smartphone handy, Chromecast is cheap and easy. Just don't get an old one as they don't play well with kayo.

      • +1

I have mibox version 2 and Apple TV’s. play very well directly on mibox and obviously Apple TV

      • I was thinking chrome cast, than did think sometimes I don’t want to always have to have my phone being the source

        • +2

did think sometimes I don’t want to always have to have my phone being the source

@jv: Hmm that actually looks good. And they have 6 months Netflix included for $140

            • +1

              @Danstar:

And they have 6 months Netflix included for $140

Yep, if you normally have the 'Standard' 2 user plan…

So effectively getting $96 Netflix credit for $41…

Offer expires end of Feb though I believe…

              • @jv: So just confirming. Google chrome sat with google tv is like a mi box / android smart tv maker thing? :D
(Sorry for the poor wording, haven’t had my morning coffee yet)

              • +1

@jv: You can do it 3 times as well according to T&Cs. For me they even refunded to full $140 after redeeming credit and sending the excess chromecasts back…

  • I'm having a similar problem to others where it's sending the pin to the wrong number. On the Telstra sign up page, I see my number and her number with a Sign up button besides each number. Even though I'm hitting the sign up button next to my number, it's sending the code to my wife's phone instead of mine. I'll probably end up just trying to do it on her phone, but annoyed on principal that they're app isn't working properly.

    • Just sign up from your phone and don't use the Telstra ID.

      • Not sure what you mean. How do I do this?

        • When you click on the link from this deal, using your phone and you don't have the Kayo app installed, you'll get an option to activate the deal by signing in with your Telstra ID or by using your phone.
If you use your phone and it is Telstra post paid, it should accept the $5 offer and then ask you to create a Kayo account which you can then link to your telstra bill or choose to pay by credit card instead.

          • @jv: I have uninstalled Kayo and have WiFi disabled. When I click on the link on my phone I only get one option to sign up using a button next to my phone number (my wife's number is not listed). However, when I click on the sign up button, it instantly sends an SMS to my wife's number instead of mine. It's a bug or perhaps something to do with how our accounts are configured with Telstra, methinks.

            • @RangaWal: Try clearing the cache on your browser, maybe you are already logged in to your Telstra ID ?

When I tried it, there were 2 hyperlinks. One to use your Telstra ID and the other to activate the offer using your phone.

              • @jv: Cleared the cache, but still no luck. Guess I'll have to just use the wife's account. Thanks for your help.

      • Don't know what you're taking about, even when activating the offer with your phone/4g (instead of logging in) it requires a code to be sent to your phone in order to redeem the offer.

        • -1

It sends it to the phone you active the offer with…

          • @jv: No, it still does not. That's the issue we are having. Even when not logging in, the code is being sent to the wrong number. It is a back-end association issue in Telstra's systems. In my case the code is being sent to a number I have zero association with.

            • @itsme56:

It is a back-end association issue in Telstra's systems.

Isn't it a code requested by Kayo ?

              • @jv: When you make your Kayo account, yes. When you claim the Telstra offer, Telstra sends a code before you can redeem the $5 offer.

          • @jv: I am getting these texts with PINs as Telstra mobile customer and I never signed up to Kayo… gg

    • +2

      annoyed on "principle"

  • Anyone keen on splitting $5 per month, please pm me

    • Do u have it and want to split the cost or are u looking for someone that has it?

      • I'm not eligible for the offer and hence checking if someone who has got it will allow me to reap benfit by sharing cost. I can't split , looking for someone who can

    • Splitting $5 with a stranger seems like a really dumb thing to do…. splitting $25 or more late, less bad, but still goes against the grain. If $5 is too much, then don't take up the offer. There are more than enough cheats on Netflix, Spotify and other services; all that leads to higher prices for everyone else in the long run.

      • +1

        Esh…calm down mate.

I can't get the offer so hence why I was keen on clarifying.

If it ends up that someone (me and plenty of others) are happy to cover the full yearly subscription cost, it means that the deal is no cost to the person that got the original offer (a $60 dollar saving is a $60 dollar saving). So to me, thats a win for all involved here.

So what you're saying is its less bad to share subscriptions that cost more? Doesn't that mean you're screwing the subscription companies out of more money that way?

  • Does anyone know if you can stop the original Telstra sim (connected to the offer?) . My special Telstra offer ends in June. Or would you loose the Kayo discount? Thanks

    • True. I didn’t even think about that. Is my telstra 12 month plan ends in 2 months. I usually port out for a month then port back in
