Imou Ranger 2 Wi-Fi 1080p Pan/Tilt Camera with Motion Tracking $39.99 Delivered @ imou eBay

830

An alternative to the popular Reolink cameras that offers a few extra features for a low price. Imou are the consumer brand of Dahua, who make excellent security cameras in my experience installing security systems. What I like about this one is that when it detects motion (e.g. a person coming into a room) it'll track and follow the target. It also supports ONVIF and RTSP.

Other features include H.265 1080p video, 2MP sensor, 360° pan/tilt, Night Vision, NVR/Cloud/MicroSD storage, 2.4GHz Wifi, Ethernet Port (not PoE), 2-way audio and an app for iOS, Android & PC. Review here showing the motion tracking.

                          • @Clear: …………do me a favour and update yours to see if it breaks it hahaha!. Just kidding.
VLC wasn't working for me on earlier version so don't think it's that. I am going to reset the camera and start from scratch. Thanks so much for checking as at least I know now that it should work.I'll report back if I work out the cause.

                            • @Borg: Did you register the camera with a password in the Imou app by any chance? You can probably try that as the password instead of the safety code.

                              • @Clear: Its WORKING! A reset fixed it. I didn't bother doing it before now but as you confirmed it worked was the inspiration to start from scratch. Thanks so much as now I can use it for Live Stream at least. Pity PTZ doesn't work but might play around with that on iSpy.

OFF Topic: Interesting the Reset didn't totally reset it as it came back and onto my Network without a fresh setup. I tried twice i.e. holding down the Reset button for 10 seconds and one hears a beep and it turns red. Makes one wonder how to actually clear all the settings. Not on my worry about list right now!

UPDATE: I unplugged it to move it to different location. Now when I plug back in it is Flashing for new setup.

                                • @Borg: That's awesome. Are you now on the same firmware version as I am? If so that would be the cause. My next suggestion was to try this URL in VLC.

                                  rtsp://admin:[email protected]/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=00&authbasic=YWRtaW46MTIzNDU2

                                  • @Clear: No reset would not revert firmware I doubt. Need to reset it up now! I'll recheck F/W and that URL once done.

                                    • @Borg: Some Imou cameras are rebranded Dahua's and that URL with the auth came from one of them. Sadly I can't see the Ranger 2 under Dahua branding but the original Ranger's are.

Looks like there's no http access either. http://192.168.x.x/onvif/device_service was unsuccessful.

                                      • @Clear: F/W is still 9.R 200730. In turn you are safe to update (should you choose).

This also works as you noted: rtsp://admin:<SafetyCode>@<IPAddress>/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=00&authbasic=YWRtaW46MTIzNDU2
Whats the difference and wonder if one can get PTZ going in iSPY?

                                        • @Borg: I know a few cameras used it however I don't know how necessary it is. Seems it doesn't need to be used with this camera.

Sometimes PTZ can go through a different port. Wireshark could potentially narrow it down.

  • Got mine today ide like another one at that price if there is any availability Op

  • Got mine yesterday, couldn't get it to pair using any iOS device (iphone and ipad) the app wouldn't make the pairing sound.
Used an android device, no issues, paired easily with sound.
Note that unlike MiHome app, imou wouldn't let you be logged in more than 1 device at a time, will probably have to create a different acc for each device and share the camera across.

    • Yes i noticed the login thing bugger

  • i have mine all working, even paid for a year of 3 day storage.. does anyone know how i can turn the light off on it at night so i can record through a window in the dark? i have it behind my sliding door.

    • +2

You can turn off IR via the APP. Settings -> More -> IR Light (Change from Auto to Disabled).
You can also turn off the 'Status" LED from same location if needed.

      • u legend. i was in the wrong settings.. i turned off status light will see how it goes. awesome thing this is

  • really dissapointed, app sends a code and wont' open up the keypad so i can type in the number….

    • I actually had the same issue so I used the PC app to finish the account setup and add the camera. Weirdly enough after that the app worked.

      • thanks i'll give it another go and see if i can make this work
