Couldn't help but notice that Bounty Battle, Blacksad and Saints Row IV on Switch are on that list, and if you can find them they're currently $9.95, so potentially a bit of savings to be had by buying and immediately trading them in for credit towards this deal?

      • +1 vote

Available stock is only in remote areas.

        • +1 vote

A trick I learned last week - you can't do this via the EBGames online store, but if you go in person to your local store and ask, they can have it delivered to you direct from another store (still have to pay postage though). The clerk will have you pay via a giftcard, phone the other EB and give them the code to complete the purchase.

          •

            @Vanit: isn't the postage rate like $15?

            •

@godofpizza: It's the same as the website as I understand it.

      • +2 votes

There are a number of games on that list that can be found for $10, just requires a bit of effort in finding people selling those games. Reward is a $49 new Zelda game.

        •

          Newish

    •

How does it work with the trade in? Do you trade in 2 games during preorder to confirm that you can get the game at $29? or trade in on release date which is subjected to changes to the eligible list?

      • +3 votes

$29 trade in offer is valid for a week after each game is released. So this expires 22/07 for Zelda and 01/07 for Mario Golf.

Best to trade in for a pre-order asap as that list is always changing

    • +2 votes

Has anyone found any other games on that list that are easily obtainable under $10?

      • +2 votes

Valfaris on Switch was $9.95 a couple of weeks ago and is on the list for anyone who picked it up

    • +2 votes

      Massive effort.

    •

I expected it to be half a dozen newish games not 1000.

    •

Thanks heaps for this, have a few games on that list that I've been trying to get rid of for ages.

    •

I’ll definitely trade 2 games toward this! Does anyone know other pre orders which offers trade ins? Have some other games to trade.

      •

Pokemon Snap and Monster Hunter Rise

    •

Props to Puglife for getting that list, my local store wouldn't show me theirs.

I got sick of looking through the images manually so I converted them into a searchable text file; uploaded it here

Thanks to that, I managed to grab 2x "GHOST RECON BREAKPOINT XBO" for $14 at BigW and trade in for Zelda SS.

Interested to see what others can find thats cheaper.

  • +1 vote

Curious to know why anyone would ever buy games from EB? Ridiculously expensive.

    • +7 votes

Pre-order bonus and you just price match anywhere else that's cheaper.

      •

        Do they price match Amazon?

        • +1 vote

          No.

          • +1 vote

@silverrat23: I imagine some will. What they price match seems to vary store by store. Generally its a local competitor that has stock on hand, but I've heard of that being applied more broadly at times.

Amazon themselves are usually price matching themselves though. If you have a Big W near by then you'll fairly likely be able to match them for basically the same price that Amazon has. Amazon generally in my experience is only well ahead of Big W when a promo allows credit to be applied or they temporarily allow cashback via CashRewards or Shopback on gaming purchases.

      • +1 vote

And return policy is great. I've bought some game I don't like. Take them back for a full refund. No issues.

        • +5 votes

On the other hand, I've bought 3DS games there with a save file. It wasn't labelled as pre-owned

      • +1 vote

My EB won't price match unless the competitor is physically in the same suburb lol
They wouldn't price match Amazon because it's online.

It's kind of sad when Amazon also offers free shipping on orders over a certain amount, so it's cheaper and more convenient to do it online

      • +1 vote

What pre-order bonuses have been announced for these? I can't seem to find any info around it.

    • +2 votes

      I'm as sucker for exclusive pre-order bonuses/collectables.

    • +4 votes

Because they have good deals pretty regularly

    • +1 vote

Remember, we (as Ozbargainers) are not their target audience.

      •

But some peps here collect this stuff to sell for twice the price the moment they are out of manufacture. And that's why they push to know about it.

    •

They have some of the best trade in deals and you can get very cheap games during their sale.

    • +1 vote

Sometimes they have great specials. For example, in January this year, they had the buy 1 get for 1 free deal and priced many PS4 games to $10. So, I basically purchased games like Borderlands 3, Overwatch, Railway Empire & Tropico 6 for only $5 each.

      •

Yup, and then traded it into CEX for profit when I discovered I ain't going to finish most of them

    •

      Carrots

    •

Occasional good deals, when they do trade ins sometimes they add a bonus percentage, not including being a member which adds a bonus percentage, you can return games for change of mind for 7 days, etc.

I wait for deals like this one, where I can access cheap games and trade them towards a new release at discount.

    Never played skyward sword…

    How is it?

    • +2 votes

Good. Starts off awesome, lulls for a little, then really picks up towards the end.

A repeating boss fight (the big giant creature) is a bit lazy, but otherwise, it's a good game.

Level design feels a little dated though. You go into "areas" that are entirely self contained. No open world.

      • +1 vote

        Good. Starts off awesome

It starts off with the longest tutorial of all time. This thing will really insult your intelligence, and it's where I gave up.

Level design feels a little dated though. You go into "areas" that are entirely self contained. No open world.

Good. Just the way I prefer it.

    •

The motion controls were the worst aspect of the game for me, so the addition of button controls to this remaster alone is a significant improvement. Other than that, Fi (this game's Navi/Tatl/Midna) is a bit annoying and the game is perhaps overly long, but it's worth playing if you like the series.

      •

Just note that the new controls are not entirely traditional push button - you'll swing the sword with the right joystick

    • +3 votes

By the time you've finished the game, you'll realise you've only just completed the tutorial.

      •

is that a good thing or a bad thing?

    • +2 votes

Its easily one of the most underappreciated Zelda games. I started a new playthrough on Hero Mode recently. Hopefully they add in some quality of life changes to get rid of some of the unnecessary hand holding with Fi. But the Dungeons, Music, Gameplay and Story is better then BOTW.

I was actually very disappointed in BOTW. But I don't really like big open world games (Dark Souls and Oblivion being my favourites). But I think the previous games had the perfect blend of linear and open. But I will admit Skyward Sword did feel a lot more linear then the others. But that is by no means a bad thing.

      • +3 votes

BOTW isn't for everyone. My partner is diehard LoZ fan and did not enjoy the opness of BOTW..

        •

Wait.. am I your partner? That's not you is it..?

          •

            @lostn: I don't think so in the 7 hours since I posted this..we are officially seperated =\

      •

i wondered why this wasn't ported to the wii u when most of the wii and gamecube zelda's got a port

        •

yes, I was waiting and hoping for it too. I think their hands were full and by the time they had time for it, Nintendo had written the Wii U off.

It would have been perfect for the wii U, which could also support a sensor bar if you preferred motion controls.

  •

We're are those drifting Joy-cons I need to get rid.

    Perfect swap opportunity.

    •

Have you try the trick by putting the drink straw inside the joy stick where you find it is covered by a piece of rubber . Once it in just , gently blow , may get the dust off , I did once , and it is rarely drift

      •

Sent 2 sets to Nintendo to fix. They fixed the drift but the R button I asked to get fixed is still sticky / stuck down.

Just last night my son showed my the 'newer' set of joy-cons we bought have started to 'drift', about 18months old.

I'll trade the worst/oldest set for these Zelda ones and hope they are building them better.

Like someone mentioned above, the target is not ozbargain, target is parents with kids or casuals that don't know anything about trade-in values.

I saw a woman with her 9 years old kid walking into an EB Games store trying to trade-in Pokemon Let's go Pikachu and Mario Tennis All-Stars for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

The guy at the counter told her that there was this promotion of trading 2 games + $29, so the lady ended paying $29 + the two games mentioned above.

    • +1 vote

While she gave away more valuable games for the one new release. If they no longer need the games they are trading in, the value to them personally was $0 anyway, so if they can get rid of them and get the game they want for $29, then let them.

      • +1 vote

The value isn't 0 when they can chuck them on marketplace and sell them within minutes for $30 bucks a pop

        •

and this is why I don't recommend the new digital only consoles

  •

Keen to see how they port that game without needing the elaborate controls.

That said, pre-ordering is for schmucks.
Always wait for initial user reviews.

    •

Tbf, we know what the will be like. This is a different pre order

    •

Once we're past the can't-be-delayed phase, I'll preorder Mario/Zelda/Metroid. Anything else, I wait for reviews.

      •

        I'll preorder Metroid

        Metroid Other M flashbacks..

        •

          Metroid Other M flashbacks..

Still haven't played this one, I bought it, and corruption back when eb was clearing Wii games.

I played and finished the 2 GameCube ones though.. I'll probably just end up buying them all over again if they port them all to the switch.

    •

Keen to see how they port that game without needing the elaborate controls.
..They explain it in the trailer. The Joycons have most of the tech from the wiimotes, or use the right stick to control the blade and skip motion entirely

  •

Anyone got any tips for cheap trade bait?

    •

dunno dude, my local eb just follows a national list they got printed in the back office.

      •

Yeh I was just meaning anyone have any tips on games that are for sale doe cheap that are on the list. Sometimes you can find games for $5-$10 on sale somewhere that are included on the list of eligible trade games.

  •

    FINALLY!

Easily one of the most underappreciated Zelda games.
I started a new playthrough on Hero Mode recently. Hopefully they add in some quality of life changes to get rid of some of the unnecessary hand holding with Fi. But the Dungeons, Music, Gameplay and Story is better then BOTW.

Edit: Mass Effect Legendary Edition in May and Skyward Sword in July :D. This makes me very happy.

  •

I got a few trade it bait with games i picked up for $9 from previous EB sales but i also got games i want to get rid of that are now 'free' as part of PSN+ or Gamepass.

  •

Sorry, do you trade the two games now and pay for the $29 preorder now or we need to wait until July to check out the updated list?

    • +1 vote

It's the former. No need to wait.

      •

        Thanks!

    • +1 vote

you can trade-in the two eligible games now and pay the $29 now, later, or when you pick up the game.

You can also trade-in other games to pay the remaining $29.

  •

wouldn't be a bad game as long as it's Zelda. But the graphics… I just can't…

    •

Yeah gotta say it's very blurry. Bare minimum to call it a remaster.

      •

it's more like a port than a remaster. The Switch has a 20nm SoC from 2015. You have to have realistic expectations as far as remastering goes.

  •

how long does it take to finish the game? 10 hours or more like 20 hours? and is there lots of reading or do the characters talk? would like to buy for my nephews but they aren'tfond of reading tiny text on screen-they'd rather just play

    •

      Classic Zelda.. So mainly reading

    •

Yeah there is a fair bit of reading just like past 3D Zelda's. I grew up with the 3D Zelda games and likely did more reading in those games then in school. Problem solving the puzzles is good for young brains too. But if your nephew is impatient. It might not be the game for them.

    •

      https://howlongtobeat.com/game?id=10042

HLTB is a great site to get a feel of the size of a game and how many hours to play. I play games with some side quest so main+extras is a fair indication. So to answer your question >30h

  •

wow.. when was that announced? Now I can finally play the game. I bought it for the Wii and hated it.

But how will they handle Wii motion plus?

    •

I bought it for the Wii and hated it.

Why the hell would you buy it again lol. It's the same game upscaled a bit

      •

if you can play without waggle controls, I'll give it a shot.

The Wii was the darkest time in gaming for me.

    •

You can play with the joycons or play with the analog stick replacing the motion.

Honestly seems like joycons will be the way to go, analog stick seems such a weird control scheme

      •

do you need to hook up a sensor bar for the joycons? I have never done it for the reason of me having 0 interest in motion controls.

        •

There is no sensor bar for the switch. As such, there will always be issues with tracking and eventually will need to realign it by either pressing a button or placing it on a flat surface. Nintendo direct said you can play purely with buttons and joystick.

          •

@azngamer: how do they sense your motion? Is it entirely from gyroscopes?

            •

@lostn: Yes. Each joycon has its own gyroscope. Unlike the wii, it doesn't have an IR pointer.

With gyroscope, it does a decent job at approximating a pointer location but wild swings or fast movement will eventually make it lose track.

              •

@azngamer: There is an IR pointer, in the right joycon / Pro controller

                •

@Merlict: That's a IR camera. It's used for labo for certain applications.

There is no pointer and camera combo to confirm its position to auto recalibrate unlike wii, that's why there is usually a button to recenter the pointer

Hoping Twilight Princess can become available on Switch in the future.

    • +1 vote

I've put aside a lot of money for Zelda 35th this year.

So i hope Twilight Princess gets released on the Switch.

Come on Nintendo bring it on !!

      •

the games are better on Wii U imo.

You get the dual screen with map always on, and shortcuts for extra items. They forced TP for Wii U into single screen because they didn't want the Wii U version to be the superior version.

Aonuma said he did it because "the games play better with one screen". By saying that, he just threw under a bus the Wii U Zelda games and all the Zelda games on 3DS.

        •

Ha? The Wii U version supports the touchpad and is the superior release compared to the original. They couldn’t radically redo anything for the Wii U as it was a port of a game from the Game Cube and Wii which were both single display.

          •

@Smigit: I dont doubt the Wii U will be abetter way to play it.

But if they are released on the Switch, you can play it any where anytime !

            •

@SpeedRunnerLink: If they release a Switch version sure. I was comparing to the Wii and GameCube given there’s no Switch version announced. Right now the Wii U is the best official TP release.

          •

            @Smigit:

Ha? The Wii U version supports the touchpad and is the superior release compared to the original.

Right. And the Switch version if they make one, won't have dual screen support.

You basically are agreeing with me.

            •

@lostn: I misinterpreted you sorry. I thought you said they crammed the games into a single display for the Wii U when you said “They forced TP for Wii U into single screen”. Makes sense to me now.

A Switch release could be ok still if they make access to the inventory quicker. They could also utilise the touch screen for hand held mode even if it’s not dual display.

              •

@Smigit: Sorry, I'm the one who made the mistake. I meant they forced BotW for Wii U into single screen, not TP. TP supported dual screen.

I personally find it hard going back to single screen. Having an extra 2 item short cuts on the second screen saved so much menuing. The Wii U, like the DS and 3DS was designed around dual screen gaming, and for Aonuma to throw dual screen gaming under a bus was strange. But the simplest explanation is that he didn't want BotW to have exclusive features on the Wii U that the new Switch won't have.

      •

Same here! TP was my first Zelda game. I wasn't very bright as a kid so I couldn't get far on the original LoZ. Hoping WW and FS, and OoT/MM (1080p).

      •

So keen for twilight princess remastered again on switch. My favourite Zelda game.
