without knowing another person's use case, how can you say 64GB is a waste?
I use 24GB DDR4 2400 Mhz right now which gets easily gobbled up by Photoshop/Lightroom during stitching, merge tasks.
Also for IT techs like me who need a lab to practice and run virtual machines. 1 VM can easily take away 8 GB memory these days minimum.
Because you don't find it useful? Believe it or not, some people may find utility in that much ram.

Believe it or not I've actually moved to using Microsoft Edge. I've found on my work laptop, it uses like 60% less memory then Firefox and Chrome.

I regularly use up my 32GB in photoshop/lightroom tasks, so whilst I am content with it, I can see why someone would want 64GB. VM's are not the only ways to use ram, and for end users probably one of the less common ways to use ram.
