Went to get this deal to use as a hotspot but ended up with the mobile broadband plan for $59/month. Comes with 150gb/month and a free 4g wifi hotspot. Only get a $400 gift card with it though. Data is shaped just like the other plan when your go over.

So let me get this straight the ole port into Telstra with a new and cancel straight away while only paying the etc no longer works?

  • +1

Took all of 20 minutes just then in store, super easy and great service

    • …and $500 richer?

      • +2

        $500 of JB tokens richer*

    • +1

Yup if you compare the JB hifi vs Telstra store employee, you would think JB staff are far more knowledgeable and capable to the Telstra employee.
Last time took them 8 days to get my service activate because the Telstra shop employee stuff up my account.

  • +3

I signed up today. I feel sorry for JB staff. The rep i had knew what he was doing. But it still took 30 minutes to get all the forms and paperwork organised. You'd think their process would be simpler.

  • So just to confirm, if you have a use for the gc then this is effectively $208 or $17.34 a month for 12 months for 80gb/month on telstra?

Is woolies mobile able to port in?

    • Yes just done the port successfully from Woolies mobile

  • +1

has anyone successfully managed to get another $10 off via live chat?

    • hoping someone could try n report back

      • +1

Tried - they said the $10 credit is already applied by JB so there won't be another credit added to it.

    • The JB staff showed me it was originally $69 with $10 credit that's come down to $59; and 60gb + 20gb bonus come to 80gb a month.

      • Yeah youre right - i tried my hardest on telstra chat last night and they could already see it was discounted $10 a month. Looks like they closed off the loop hole from last year

  • signed one, but feels a downgrade to me. ported from kogan (vodafone), i use to have 4g 2-3 bars stable anywhere indoor like 45mbps download. with telstra i could only get 4G 1-2 bar near window (17 mbps) and 3G 2-3 bars indoor. well, 5G outdoor 1-2 bars unstable and the speed is at 20ish mbps, what a joke.
bottom line is i have wifi at home, the speed doesn't really brother me, i believe i can still get a good connection away from home.

if you know telstra won't play nice at you place, this deal is not worth it. if you have a good signal, then you don't want to miss it.

For those who are regularly cycling in and out of these JB plans on an annual basis for this offer, what is the best value 'holding' SIM or plan?

I.e. where are your porting your number and parking it in between offers?

    • i hopped on a 3 month kogan sim 20gb per month and it was like $12 for the entire 3 months or something

      • Is that deal still available or was it a one-off?

        • Usually pops up every few months I think

        • +1

$14.90 for 3 months is still availble. I just ordered it. Hoping for a similar deal again around Click Frenzy. Thanks TightTerry!

  • didnt get time to visit store today so i saved my self a credit check ill wait until the same offer comes up again or get the $59/ mth mobile broad modem deal instead.

    • Same unfortunately couldn't make it to the store. I wonder if they would honour it tomorrow if you show a screenshot of the offer?

      • Unfortunatly, its a one day sale.

      • any luck anyone getting deal today?

    • +2

what's so bad about credit check?

    • +1

I already had 2 other services with telstra so they didn't bother with a credit check. Plus a credit check with telstra is viewed a bit differently to a credit check from a bank.

  • my jb store was full of people coming in the whole day. they legit ran out of computers to serve, all 6 were used to do this deal. So many angry customers walking out as well but it is what it is - they couldn't do it any faster :(

  • +1

I signed up today, agree that the paperwork was odious, the girl was frantic and some asswipe who had come back from before I walked in, got put back in front of me so she was doing two applications at once.

Anyway, I've left Optus and am happy about that. Quick question - does this plan include 13 / 1300 / 1800 numbers as free calls?

    • Yeh mate

  • Got connected earlier today and looking at my contract. Mine says $69 per month. Shouldn't it be $59?

    • It's a $69 BYO plan with $10 monthly port in credit

  • Is it 60 or 80 gb data, I got it one today, and only showing 60 gb data on the Telstra App.

    • Says 80gb on my app.

      • on the JB Hi-Fi and the Good Guys BYO Mobile Plans pdf, did yours say 80gb or 60? this is so strange.
btw, you will get $10 credit each month, so it's showing $69 as a plan fee

        • Contract pdf says: 20GB Bonus Non-Shared Data ?You?ll receive an additional 20GB of data for use in Australia each month, until you recontract, cancel your plan or move to an ineligible plan. ?Unused allowances expire monthly.

    • 60gb + 20gb bonus. that’s what it should be

      • +1

not showing on my app, and I live chat Telstra staff and told 60only

        • Same for me, but live chat on Telstra got that sorted straight away

    • +1

Call the store back today and get them to fix it.

  • Wanted to get off Belong but not allowed :(

Had a Telstra account last week. Ported out last week to Vodafone. Went to Chermside Westfield JB Hi-Fi today and got the deal. Winning 🥇

  • +1

Signed up to a new number. Jumped on the chat last night (took them about 3 hours to respond to my initial message) and was able to have my existing Telstra postpaid number transferred to my new service overnight.

I had about 3 weeks left on my existing Telstra contract, but they waived the service contract charges and gave me a credit for half my device buy out fee (ended up being about $20 to end my contract early).

Does anyone know whether it's possible to get an eSim for the JB plan?

    • I activated eSim on my jb plan last night via My Telstra app.

      • Can you advise how to do it?

        • I managed to do it just then. Went onto the MyTelstra app > services > select your service > transfer or restore eSim and go through the process. Went through pretty quickly.

    • You were lucky… 10 hours and still nothing happen.

      • +1

As in they didn't answer your chat message, or the transfer hasn't gone through? They gave me my order number so I could track it, and after it was complete, all I had to do was put in the new SIM card.

        • Depend who you get, finally got another support and sorted for me.

  • -1

Wait this already expired? It only lasted a day? I was going to go in tomorrow.

How are people managing to "merge" their two services (or rather, move their old Telstra number over to this new plan they signed up for)?

I'm on the stupid chat via my Telstra app, and its a nightmare. Ridiculously long response times, literally zero actual updates in the 10 or so responses I've got from my random person (can't we even see their name or ID any more?)

Is there a simpler way? Tried calling, but eventually the robot told me "too higher call volume, goobye". Too bad it's been like this since March last year..

    • +1

Just an update. Still on chat an hour later, seemingly have another person now as they asked me to repeat what I want to do.

Explained it all in very simple, logical and precise english. There is no doubts. "I see. So you want to do this" - proceeds to say the exact opposite of what I want to do (ie believes I want to keep new mobile number and move it to old plan to keep)

Will Telstra stores be able to fix this? Because this is incredibly frustrating.

      • +1

As has been said a few times, this is not something that Telstra does as standard. A few people may have achieved it, but don't be surprised if the answer is no. Why would they restrict these deals to be customers only if existing customers could just switch numbers?

        Good luck.

        • +2

Yep, found the out the hard way. Good news (for me) is that eventually someone responded who could do it, and 5mins later it was done! (they said up to 24 hours but it was almost instantaneous)

So if anyone else is trying the same thing, my suggestion is to write out a clear and concise statement on what you're trying to achieve (I kept including mobile and account numbers when talking about the "old" and "new" account/plan's).
And then paste this into the convo eachbtime you get a new person wanting to "clarify" what you want to do.
It will save you plenty of stress from not having to type out the same thing for the 15th time to the fourth rep..

  • Took advantage of this deal yesterday and got myself the pixel upgrade, finally.
Anyone else have issues registering a a Telstra ID and linking the new service? Been on chats for a day now and getting nowhere haha, my Telstra ID account is somehow broken and stuck in a continual loop of 'lets setup your account'.

  • Telstra is making me pay an ETC of $712 for switching numbers (old number into new plan, new number into old plan). Last time in October I did it with no fees or problems. Am I wrong or are they wrong? Could anyone please help me here or PMs? Thanks!

    • What plan are you currently on? If your currently under contract with a JB Hi-Fi plan, you're probably on a plan that has an ETC.

      • The only plan on a contract was the one I signed up for 2 days ago (this deal). My current number is month to month no contract

        • Are you sure they haven't confused it, and are thinking you want to cancel your new contract?

  • People who have signed up for this deal on Thursday, are you able to add direct debit details on telstra.com?

When I click to add my credit card it just takes me to:

    https://telstra.com.au/my-account/my-account-unavailable

The guy I got on telstra chat is useless.
Perhaps this isn't only an issue for me?

    • I could add it through the app succesfully

    • Send me your details I'll get it done for you;)

  • Does anyone have an unused $500 JB gift card from this deal they'd like to sell me for $450 (10% off)
