Where to Get Ideas for Landscaping of Home?

Hi OzBargainers,

I hope this is the right place to ask this question, I am required to landscape my home, but haven't got any clues as to where to start. I probably have a budget of $10000 (like it to be less, but not sure I really can DIY paving or concreting). I know there are display homes and I can walk around the neighbourhood to gather ideas, but if there is any software/online tools that you can use by taking a photo of the front/rear of the property to then overlay with driveways, footpaths, etc. this would help me get a picture in my mind that I could then share with a landscaper to get the final product. I want to do this right the first time. Any useful suggestions / tips would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

What is this Google that you refer to?

        • I have to try my recommendation.

Oh hey, oh it redirects me to a search form.

Lots of stuff you can do yourself by watching the myriad of YouTube DIY videos.

  • Lots of cheaper price plants and materials can be bought from FB marketplace.

If you're like me, spending $10 on a magazine is worth it (or better still, try the library), so I can flick through a big range of pictures and say "how about this?" to my partner.
    Google suggests some.

I built a house in Thailand and did all the conceptual drawings on the free (open source) package "Sweet Home 3D". It's really easy to use and you can do 3D renderings for different times of the day to get an idea of how things will look. It's more a house building / interior design tool, but I used it to render the entire property, complete with landscaping.

Or try "Sketchup Free" - really easy to use, and has a seemingly inexhaustible library of models.

So I'd probably just start playing around with that first, before using a CAD package, like AutoCad.

Otherwise google for "Free landscaping design software". There are quite a few out there - I've never tried any of them. There's "Plan-a-Garden", "Terragen", "iScape" etc.
