  • is there a limit of gift/egift cards can be used? Suncorp member has 5% discount.

  • Based on the full specs page directly from Hisense:
    https://hisense.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Hisense-70…

    HDMI inputs: 3
HDMI type 4K@60Hz with HDCP version 2.2: Yes (HDMI 1, HDMI 2,HDMI3)
HDMI 2.0 compliant input: Yes (HDMI 1, HDMI 2,HDMI3)

I see some people saying this TV is 50Hz but I'm assuming that's only when you are using the 100Hz smoothing. I think every modern TV these days can output at both 50/60Hz. Unless someone that personally owns this TV can provide some clarity.

    • I don't own this tv, I have a Hisense 50S8 but my understanding is the refresh rate is the same.

I'm able to get it to display at 60hz using the ARC input through NVIDIA control panel. Results may vary on consoles

      • Interesting. So it definitely has the ability to display in 60Hz then so that's sorta promising.
How do you find the brightness on the 50S8 model? I saw someone say that the 70" version is "dim" which is surprising considering it's directly lit.

        • Yes it can do 60hz at least. I tried overclocking to 70 as well with no luck.
Brightness is okay for my use in a dark spare room, and at 50 inches it's not nearly as noticeable if it were an edge lit 70 inch.
Granted, the direct lit 70s5 will assuredly be brighter than the 50s8

Regarding your comment about the 70 inch being dim, it is indeed directly lit but comparing directly to other TVs such as Samsung's qleds or Sony's LED TVs it's not quite as bright.

    • I just bought this tv, It can do 50hz / 60hz, the software motion smoothing is up to 100hz on maximum setings, it has 3 levels of smoothing.

      • Hey zrorz, thank you for the update! How do you find the brightness? Is it dim like others are saying?

        • I bought this TV yesterday, all setup nicely but it could only connect to my Wifi 2.4GHz band but cannot connect to the 5GHz band. Have any of you who got the TV experience the same issue? My router is Asus RT-AC68U.

@fishandchips: It does look like from the spec sheet provided by Hisense that this model supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Hard to say at that point if you don't have issues with any other device connecting to 5GHz.

  • If I am understanding it, $808.08 instore with 9% off gift cards

  • Do you guys know if this would’ve been cheaper with the 15% yesterday, ie should we wait for another 15% ebay promo, or pull the trigger now with the 9% gift card deal?

  • I am bout to buy https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/hisense-65q7-65-4k-ultra-… should I change to this?

    • The Q7 will be a better image, but smaller, the S5 will be an inferior image but bigger (not bad, just worse than the Q7). Depends what is important to you.

      • I decided to stay with the Q7. The size different is not huge and my current TV stand would be stretched to fit it.

I was super curious about the Alexa / Google integration and Disney Plus / Kayo etc etc.

So I called a JB store, who told me these things didn't exist on it and that's its running VIDAA U4 OS (after getting the sales dude to go and check it all for me)

VIDAA U5 seems to be the better OS that is on the 2021 models:
    https://techau.com.au/hisense-vidaa-u5-smart-tv-os-speeds-up…

Ended up calling Hisense direct, they told it won't get the VIDAA U5 update anytime soon, but they can provide the software to download and get Disney Plus / Kayo running on the series 5 TV (but still no Alexa / Google integration).

I'm gonna pass on this, Alexa integration is a big deal for me as I have a heap of smart devices running these days… also don't wanna buy older tech only cause its cheap and i'll be unsatisfied later.

But…. for this price as a simple TV being 70' it may suit others!

Purchased this TV earlier this year from the Good Guys for approx. $1020 (delivered).

Excellent TV for its price and provides the essentials via VIDAA (Netflix, Youtube, Screenshare etc.) with a separate Chromecast attached to cover all bases.

Interface is a tad slow, and there are a few inconveniences but can't complain with this price point.

    • Could you elaborate on what the other inconveniences are? Thx!

      • There is this one annoying bug where I get multiple device entries for the TV on my Windows Laptop.

I have to delete them from the list to stop it flooding that particular page.

  • Looking for a TV around this price range for our back deck. Will be using AppleTV and watching from Foxtel box, so don't care about the OS, and have a sound bar so don't care about the speakers. What is a good 65"+ that has good brightness (for outdoor) and good refresh rate (for sport)?

I bought this together with the Hisense soundbar that is currently on sale for $199, marked down from $299. The saleswoman offered to lower the price of the TV by $35 if I bought the soundbar, which was nice as I hadn't asked her for further discounts.

Together with the $18 off I got from two gift cards I was able to buy yesterday from the (now expired deal), the discounts basically paid for delivery.

I'm pretty happy with the purchase. This was the type of TV I was looking for - a 70" with reasonably good specs that would look and feel like an upgrade from my 50" without breaking the bank or having to go for a generic brand.

Sure, there are better TVs out there but this is my budget and for the price, I'm happy.

    • I bought this TV yesterday, all setup nicely but it could only connect to my Wifi 2.4GHz band but cannot connect to the 5GHz band. Have any of you who got the TV experience the same issue?

      • +1

It doesn't work on 5GHz for me.

        • Thank you for trying out.

It does mention 2.4/5 = “/“ = or, May be it will only work only with one band not 2 bands. Who knows? We will find out, hopefully in next few months. I did call Hisense support and they thought me how to hard reset but no luck.

          • @fishandchips: I saw a reddit post with the same problem - perhaps it's a channel thing (like the new google tv chromecast has) and only can connect to certain 5ghz channels?

    • Can you comment on this TVs motion blur or general picture quality for sport/gaming?
