          • @ajh: Non of them are wifi 6e.

They're marketed as wifi 6 enhanced because they apparently extend beyond the wifi 6 spec but don't come with access to 6ghz which is what 6e is about

      • -1

even some downgrade, like CPU. so, choose 3600 or 9000.

    • What's the 6.25 Gbps section near the bottom, switching speed? why is the AX6000 much worse.

  • I have the ax3600. 5ghz range is a bit poor compared to my old tp link archer c9.2.4ghz is a bit slow.

Dont know much about routers, but it makes accessing my nas a bit slower

    • high frequency leads to high data throughput but poor range.

  • +2

So disappointing… there’s easily room for 5 more antennas on the front!

    • Yes, totally agree. On my last meeting of RA (Routers Anonymous) there was a guy who fell off the wagon and bought himself an ASUS ROG GT-AX11000. Poor bloke.

      • It happens… What's done is done.

  • AX9000 Looks like a alien spaceship.

    • +2

You seen a real one? :P

      • +1

Maybe has scars to show for it?

        • +2

Wait… U mean those aren't antennas but probes??????

  • +1

I have the AX3600, definitely worth to buy.

Did anyone attend the Xiaomi modem wedding?

The service was shocking but the reception was magnificent!

  • Interesting look at WiFi 6E from Broadcom (Qualcomm's competitor)
    https://docs.broadcom.com/doc/wi-fi-6e-momentum
The map shows bugger all activity in Australia unfortunately.

    • 1) ACMA feedback on the 2021-26 spectrum draft consultation recently closed on the 28th of April.
      2) Wi-Fi 6E has to be approved by ACMA for use in Australia.

I had the Ax3600, wifi stopped working after 2weeks, after the ISP went down. For some reason had no WiFi no matter what i did. Seller and AliExpress was useless. Lucky I paid using PayPal. Got the money after 3 weeks.
Now I m running two ax1800 on mesh from a local seller. I m on 100mbps fibre. I get consistent 10mb per sec downloads on wifi and cable. My devices are supposedly wifi 6. Also have about 15 devices on wifi all the time. Peak at 35 devices. For me the ax1800 wifi signal strength is better than the ax3600

  • mate bought the ax3600 to use with hfc aussiebb, thing wouldnt work 90% of the time, wifi signal was fine according to devices, the hfc connection was fine.
It would say you have full bars but the connection would randomly run at something similar to 56kbps dialup, reset, rebooted, re-flashed via their system, tested multiple settings, nothing would get it to behave properly, would connect, work fine for a few hours, then start the random dialup connection behaviour. Support didnt really provide any insight, and service centre in Vic only services mobiles n scooters, none of the other products for sale on AU site so he returned and got his money back.
I assume it was just a dud unit as haven't found any other complaints matching how his was behaving though.

Thought it might be worth mention about the service centre though if anyone's considering buying the AU version directly from them.

Honestly, wifi is a black art, one I love to study and test.

The tldr, is that by default these are configured for max compatibility.

Any (literally) router that is accepting multiple standards has to juggle the different speeds, and try and apply 'airtime fairness'; and usually fail at it.

What im trying to say is; if your friend plugged-in-and-went-for-it; depending on his devices at home, any router can easily slow to a dribble.

Little tip to try at home:

Odds are, your router is set to G/N/AC.

In your 2.4ghz wireless settings, there is likely a setting for "N only".

      Try enabling it.

Not having to worry about the slower multicast traffic will see your devices FLY.

If it turns out you have something old enough to not support N? Just switch it back.

      Simple. :)

  • Does anyone run these in a mesh setup?

    • I am running the AX3600 with an AX1800 ($60 from PCByte) for a Wifi6 Mesh, running without issue for the last few weeks.

  • Im not getting that price either:

    US $108.48
    tax US $10.85
    Total US $119.33

    Any assistance would be apprecaited

    • I'm not sure, maybe I'm getting an additional discount because I'm a Platinum member. See here. Prices in title have now been fixed.

      • All good.
Seems a good price so grabbed one anyway

Just note that you can't pull an aggregate speed of over 1gbit over the 1gbit switch of the AX6000, because it's only hooked up with a 1gbit link. (Ie. You can't have 2 users pull 1gbit down each via the 2.5gbit WAN port)

The 2.5gbit wan port ends up being a boondoggle that can't actually saturate unless you have 11ax hardware. (And 4-stream 11ax with 160mhz at that, which is not cost efficient at this time to buy adaptors for. 2-stream 160mhz is ~2400mbit link speed, which realistically would yield you less than that)

Not particularly a problem for Australia since it's unlikely to get a >1gbit consumer service for a long time, due to the NBN being shot in the kneecaps by News Corp.

    CPU: Quad-core IPQ8071A A53 1 GHz + Dual-core 1.7 GHz NPUROM: 256 MBRAM: 512 MB

This is wrong. That's the AX3600's specs.

The AX6000 has an IPQ5018, 128mb flash and 512mb memory
The AX9000 has an IPQ8072A, 256mb flash and 1gb memory?

Have AX6000 + AX1600 running mesh. AX6000 alone had better/more consistent signal than my 2xAC68u in mesh did previously.

UI via your browser isn't English, but it's totally useable with google translate. App is completely in English and for the most part can be set up totally using it.

    Great gear for the price.

  • I got the AU AX3600 model the other week for $155, other than not having a USB port it has been fairly good. I have a Xiaomi phone which helps, but the functionality is a lot better than the Telstra AC2100 I was using.

  • I have a xiaomi AX3600, but my nbn is with TPG HFC. They just don’t work with each other.

Or anyone knows how to make them connected I would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

    • +4

Dump TPG for Superloop, Launtel or Aussie BB and the Xiaomi will connect. If you must stay with TPG purchase a switch and tag the port with the VLAN ID 2.

      • +1

So it’s truly just that it doesn’t work with TPG.
Thanks mate, I will switch when my 6-mo contract with TPG ends.

        • +3

Mainly TPG and iinet use VLAN ID. The ISPs I suggested don't use VLAN ID and instead use the IPoE protocol.

        • +1

You can plug this into your default TPG modem/router combo and it will work that way.
Then just disable wifi in your TPG modem/router.
I got around it doing it this way

          • @Cheagle: Thanks mate. How do you disable wifi in the default TPG router tho?

            • @mrhorse: My one is an archer VR1600v and in the wifi settings you can untick the two bands to disable it.

              • @Cheagle: Same model here! I will give it a try. Thanks again.

          • +1

@Cheagle: @Cheagle @mrhorse Getting around it like that with TPG doesn't work for everyone. Doing so on HFC gives you what's called a double NAT and breaks access to Plex servers, online gaming, remote access and selected home automation and CCTV products. If you don't do any of that it's fine but you are running a second router for no reason other than doing the VLAN ID.

            • @Twix: You can get around it by double portforwarding.
It's not ideal but its a workaround and doesn't need the added cost of a switch.
Changing to superloop seems good once TPG finish up the 250/20 speed boost promotion.

  • Anyone can share how good or easy to setup parenting control? Is it working well to block certain ip or Mac add by allowing or blocking certain time? Thanks

  • What's the chances that all data going through these routers is being captured and sent to Chinese government agencies?
And before I get negged like crazy, it's happened before (sources below) so it's very possible to happen again. Personally I wouldn't trust a Chinese owned brand.

    https://www.channelnews.com.au/secret-chinese-code-that-send…
    https://cybernews.com/security/walmart-exclusive-routers-oth…

    • I find it hard to trust Chinese devices, but also anything I didn't build myself (Fetch TV, IP cameras, etc).. so as long as it's all behind a firewall (pfSense or something) I don't mind it. Just lock it right down.

  • What happens when you have shit modem. Do you still get high speed through this router?

    • +1

You get high speeds for anything but the internet, which is dictated by your shit modem.

Eg transferring files from one computer to another or streaming games like occulus or gamestream.

  • I live in a place with concrete walls and the wifi signal is weak after a wall or two - would something like this help with signal strength? i am with TPG, using the default modem they provide

How does WiFi backhaul work w 2x AX6000 in a mesh. Is there a dedicated backhaul channel?

  • anyone else told to cancel the order by the seller due to problems with supplier?

    • My order was placed on the second and shipped on the third

      • sorry i forgot to add its for the AX9000, i also ordered the ax6000 which shipped out fine.

  • Thanks OP

  • I just bought one. I could not resist. It is a birthday present from my son (guess who paid)
