Is It Possible to Get My Disconnected Mobile Number Back?

I have a mobile number that has been disconnected for around 8 months. When I ring it it's still disconnected. It was originally from an Optus MNVO, last provider was a Telstra MNVO.

Usually telcos hold numbers in quarantine for a minimum of 6 months (12 months if the service was disconnected due to nuisance calls).

A telco does not have to reissue your number.

    • Thanks. I'll go beg Optus. I didn't disconnect due to nuisance calls though. I was getting nuisance calls and just removed the SIM card and forgot about it.

      • How did you forget about it?
Did you not get payment reminders or anything else related to the service?

        • 12 month prepaid with sim removed…..

@itsnotmeitsyou: Dang. Good luck with the retrieval. Post back with your outcome.

last provider was a Telstra MNVO.

shouldn't you beg from that Telstra MNVO.?

You actually have to get the number back from the company that first issued the number.

        Username checks out

    • Do you work for a telco?

Ask support at the Telstra MNVO you had the account with 8 months ago as it varies from company to company and potentially who you speak with as well.

just FYI - number was given back to Optus in March this year, and hasn't been used since. So OP should be able to go back to Optus and get it back

How come "given back"? A phone number can be moved to another provider without porting authorization from the owner?

      • +12

when a service is ported to another provider (in ops case, was originally an Optus number but ported to Telstra), when the service is disconnected, it gets given BACK to the original provider

        • thanks for the info, never knew that,

          Why ?

supasaiyan, can I just applaud the informal support you give telstra users on this forum, I sincerely wish you'd become a bigwig there someday and change the customer service culture from within🤜🤛

So the OP mistypes MNVO rather than MVNO, and suddenly everyone else does too…
