  • Shouldn't a 6TB drive always be cheaper than an 8tb drive?

    • +7

Suspect they mean per/TB which this is

6TB is SMR, 8TB is CMR

    • +1

For those not in the know: CMR is superior to SMR.

Not a huge deal generally, but for shucking/NAS use, CMR is much better :)

    • 6TB is SMR, 8TB is CMR

no idea what you were on about
so a quick google search revealed that CMR aka PMR is the successor to LMR :)

I don't get it, why would anyone need 6 terabytes of external storage?

    • +7

      Not sure if serious…

    • need and want are two different things
      .

Officeworks and JB Hifi have 4Tb externals for $99.

    $24.75/Tb. This is $28.16.

I wish I had a server to fit a bunch of those 4TB drives. Have to buy bigger ones now when they go on sale so I don't run out of space.

      • But then you will consume more enegy and all these 4tb drives are SMR will die soon if you run 24x7

    • true that. better buy two 4s than this

      • Two 4TB drives requires 2 USB ports and 2 power points though.
