Seeking Recommendations for $150 Printer

Hi All,

I’m looking for a printer which won’t take much of my realestate space on my desk and wirelessly print and scan. The reason of this this printer is I have to print very occasionally and scan it too. But when I need to print I can’t take a trip to office work and would like to save time. I do not want to buy those cheap ink jet printers as cartridges run dry very quickly.
My budget is $150
Can you guys please recommend something and a good bargain?

You can't get a multifunction laser for $150.

Try multifunction inkjet and third party ink. I would just save up for a laser.

I think laser is around $250, and should be able to claim as expenses when doing tax return, considering it is mostly for work use.

  • For occasional use and small budget, might want to try second hand on ebay? I've bought a few used colour laser printers on ebay. Especially good was when an office was replacing their old Dell office printer. Weighed about 30kg so had to use a hand trolley to move it out. Cost only $20.

    • thanks mate i am after something small and I believe laser printer is the way to go and prefer to buy brand new just to ensure it's under warranty

  • i have seen few mono laser printers in office works which are $108 and multifunction around $250.
I am happy to increase my budget to $250 but could you please suggest which one to buy as there are so many to choose from ? I want a laser printer but not sure if I need color but definitely want a smaller size which I can keep on my desk and ofcouse third party cartridge which is cheaper than getting from office works.

This one is $107 comes with toner (half full) and compact. The only thing missing is a scanner maybe something I can use my phone for that.
What do you guys think of this printer ? Can I use third party toners for cheap ?

    • Nah, go for the model above.

      • Which one ?

  • Laser Laser. Get a Brother.

  • I did some research. I want a monochrome black and white printer. Compact. Can I also get multifunction scan and copy too ? Photocopying at times is very handy. Where can I get third party toners for brother the model above and

brother mfc-l2750dw Is an OZB favourite. I bought ours a couple of months ago for $260. Cheap toner cartridges, b&w printing/copying, colour scanning

  • Am I going to make a mistake if I purchase brother Brother HL-1210W $107 from Office Works. It doesn’t have MF capabilities but it’s compact for my desk. I can scan using my phone’s app for documents. I never use scanner for scanning pictures. The only thing missing is copy function which I’ll need at rare times.

Can I get the toner cheap online Just like the other ones ?

    • No, you won't make a mistake purchasing that printer. There might be other models that are better in some ways, and you might be able to get something a bit cheaper, but only you know what you want. Yes, you can purchase toner cheap online.

But if it was me, I'd be looking for a Brother laser printer on Facebook Marketplace for around $30 instead - there's usually a few around. You might even find a Brother MFC Laser

  • Thank you. I think brother printer is the way to go.
My first need is space as I have very less realestate space but if I’m purchasing something it’s best to buy one off.

Laser printer MFC is the best option for me but I’ll need to see if I can accommodate this under the table.

I’m already a Good guys commercial member and found this brother MFC-L2710DW to be $186. Is there other places where I can get this cheaper ? In terms of the size is it bigger a lot bigger than the than 1210W ?

    • Not familiar with "your" model, but our 2750 sits inside a wardrobe (with a ppt :-) in the next room, which really suits as its probably used, say, on average, a couple of times a week, so we dont want it occupying prime real estate on the desk

I just went to officeworks and Goodguys in Alexandria and Tempe NSW both stores didn’t have any laser printers no one there knows when they will get one.
Where else can I get the above printers at a similar price ?

    • Please take a good look online yourself first.

I'm sure you can do it.

      Best of luck.

  • Just get one of these bad boys.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Brother-HL-L2300D-Monochrome-Print…

    Cartridges cheap as off eBay.

Just buy it and get it done with.

Get a cheap inkjet for colour.

No wifi. Get the next model up.

  • I got a mate he is looking to get me this Brother printer HL-L2350DW for $125. Should I go for it ? Doesn’t have scanner

  • Brother laser

I have had a DCP1510 for so many years that I can't even tell you without searching for the order in my emails. Highly recommended.

It doesn't have wireless, but there is a similar wireless option.

  • I was late last piece of laser printer gone. No one seem to have stocks. Amazon doesn’t have all the models I want with OW or Goodguys price :(
What’s happening to the printers around here ?

    • What’s happening to the printers around here

Everyone else decided to do exactly what you're doing (but before you did), so the retailers all sold out.

Stock comes into the country on ships, so it takes a long time. Factories closed down due to Covid, and they take a long time to start up again. Electronic components are in short supply, so manufacturers can't make new devices.

You say that OW and GG have the best prices, but that's real easy to do when they don't have stock. I expect that when they do get stock back in, their prices will go up to what everyone else is selling the printers for. Maybe even higher.

Having said that, how hard have you looked when you say that "no one seems to have stocks"?

  • I finally ordered online $221 including shipping for Brother MFC-L2710DW Mono Laser Multi-Function Centre.

I could have saved $35 on shipping but pulled the trigger let’s see if it arrives in 2-5 business days

  • Can you guys please help with some links on getting the third party toners? There are lots of options online not sure which ones are good. Should I just buy the powder and refill ?

  • Bad luck Good Guys cancelled my order saying the product was damaged

  • GG OP.
