  • what happens to the power supply if it carks it with this.

probably a non issue as this is literally the price of a power supply.

      you farked

    • Then, it becomes a door stopper.

    • You buy another one. Had a Dell 9020 for mum before this. The PSU died, I pulled the SSD and the rest went in the bin.

      • +1

the rest went in the bin.

Not your local electronics recycling depot? Disappointing.

      • How long did it last? Just bought one for me mum.

    • use this cable along with a normal power supply

      https://www.moddiy.com/products/HP-EliteDesk-800-PSU-Main-Po…

  • GT1030 low-profile may be a good option for this at A$99 +Delivery, assuming the PSU has the 30W TDP overhead (via PCIe), which it most likely does.

Games that have recently added FSR support have seen a great boost to this card.

Funny enough I'm used to high prices that a 1030 for $100 almost seems like a bargain

      • That's how bad the cost-push inflation is atm, It looks like it might be heading back down now, but all it will take is another bull-run for prices to continue getting worse.

The 2GB GDDR5 is a bit rough, but it should play most games pre-2018, any current indie. FSR implementation would be a game changer, I am pretty sure Resident Evil 3 (2019) had a similar feature and I played 1080p/High/60fps on an RX460.

I'd probably pay the extra $50 and get a Tiny form factor. but that's just what i'd use it for, a play cluster or an always on server with an Unraid or ubunutu/portainer or kububernetes or rancher or just docker cotainer.. i've got 2 M93P's (https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p204767…) which are just great, this HP Elitedesk 800 also has Vpro (https://www.servethehome.com/introducing-project-tinyminimic…) which is a poor mans ILO so you don't have to keep going to the computer everytime you want to remote administer, like remote control and power on and off and boot off virtual media via Mesh commander (https://meshcentral2.blogspot.com/) great if you have boomers and kids that don't know sheet

    • Can you swap out the ssd for a bigger one?
Also you reckon I could get one of those external gpus and use it with the m93ps?

    • +1

I use a combination of the EliteDesk Minis and Intel NUCs in my clusters and they're excellent. Originally I used the EliteDesk SFFs like in this deal but the small form factor and less power consumption of the minis is a big plus.

HP Z series towers sell for around $350+ and they're a good option if you want a file server. Plenty of SATA ports, HDD bays and if you add a RAID card it's even better. Good for Chia too.

      • Yeah i'm thinking i'll get a 3rd tiny form factor and it might be an EliteDeskmini, pretty sure its apples vs apples M93P vs EliteDesk Mini that is.

        • Purely in appearances I think the EliteDesk looks a lot better. If the ports included aren't much of an issue go for price for sure.

    • But these cant fit PCI cards

  • Any wifi?

    • You could add a low profile PCI wifi card, or use a USB adapter.

  • Does anyone know if is there enough space for 3 x 3.5" drives?
I wanna set up a file/Plex server but I know sometimes cases like these can be pretty cosy…

    • +2

SFF so it only has one bay for a 3.5" drive.

      • Thought that might be the case (pun not intended)

theres 2 - 1 underneath the cd rom, 1 to the right of the cd rom, and a spot to put to a 2.5/ssd
From memory, theres only 3 sata ports - so I forego the cd rom, and had 2 HDD and 1 SSD.

        • Ah yes my mistake you are correct.

  • Windows 10 Home or Pro?

  • Many thanks OP! Going back to uni this semester for a Grad Cert in Data Analytics, and needed a new desktop (I have a 10+ year old ageing laptop as my current computer). This fits the bill perfectly for what I need!

Coupled it with the Seagate 2TB external HDD deal for extra storage, and I'm all set. :-)

  • Are these CPUs capable of QHD/UHD resolution?

Wondering if i can pair it with my recent Dell 2721QS.
