I didn't personally use BD's roadside assistance before but reviews are bit better compared to some other providers.

As usual, please read the T&Cs before signing up. Stay well and safe!

Update- Deal is not expired, I've updated the link, BD's website must be trippin. The code need to be manually entered by the end. Thanks to Fishballs

Have had BD Roadside for 3yrs now & had to use them last year for the first time when my water pump went.

Called in the morning, a tow truck was booked & they arrived that afternoon. Nice & quick.

Yes, I heard they are really competitive. I'll try them out when my current assist ends.

You got lucky.. I waited 4 hours for a tyre change.. could have done myself but was home anyways so not in a rush.

      •

So why didn't you do it yourself?

dont know if id call 1/2 a day response roadside assistance good. If im stuck in the middle of nowhere, id really want sub 1-2 hour service.

For the record, I wasn't in an emergency situation, so can't comment on that, but I also wasn't in a rush, so for me it was fine.

FYI it was more like 4hrs than 'half a day'. Call was made after 10am & tow truck was there just after 2pm.

Sadly you cannot get it if your car has too many KM, I never had any issues with other company before to get a roadside assistance.

We only offer Roadside Assistance to cars with less than 250,000kms on the odometer

AAMI offers free road side assistance with comprehensive insurance and did so for my VZ Commodore that’s done > 300,000 km.

Can I ask how much CI costs per year for a VZ Commodore with over 300,000kms ? lol

What’s better this (budget direct roadside assist) or RACQ?

What is "better"? Cheaper? faster service? Interstate coverage? Discount portals?

    •

One is budget the other one is better.

Keep in mind the towing is only 50km round trip from the depot. This means if you are 25ks or more from a towing company you'll be paying.

Considering most of them sit next to the freeway like vultures in WA, I can't see this being an issue.

Anyone else better than NRMA? What's the point of saving few bucks if you can't find them immediately when needed on the road?

I wouldn't touch Budget Direct anything with a barge pole attached to a barge pole.

      Why?

They paid out my sister's travel claim to the tune of $50 for losing all her possessions. Even though the process required a super detailed accounting for everything. Required contacting suppliers and reconstructing everything via credit card statements etc - all for $50. So they were able to add it to their "paid claims" stats when in fact what they paid was a joke. Thankfully Qantas paid their max for lost baggage which recouped about half of what she lost/outlaid. But the insurance was basically worthless and a huge waste of time.

I've been with Budget Direct for a couple of years now and had to make a car crash claim for the first time in my life. It was a not at fault accident and they provided a courtesy car even though I opted not for one in my policy but it appears if you are not at fault they provide you with one…welcome news for me.

Apart from taking a couple of weeks to confirm a write-off it has been a flawless experience and they take phone calls too! All up I'm happy with their service.

can I buy ra after the car breakdown?

    •

Yes but it's cheeky. Don't tell then it broke down yesterday!!

    •

Yes. It used to be a $50 premium (on top of the normal annual membership fee) for on the spot membership and instant RA. Not sure these days.

    •

      What's RA?

I had BD for last 3 years. Unfortunately had to use Roadside Assist last month. In city they cover only upto 15 km. Had to pay for extra 5 kms to deliver the car to my mechanic. I am in Sydney.

Also, i was told that if car doesn't go in neutral and it can't be pulled or rolled to tow truck, i will have to pay extra for special device that tow truck guy will have to bring to pick up my car. That's a lot of BS to have to pay extra for that. Luckily my car could go into neutral and didn't had to pay.

I am up for renewal and actually thinking of going with some other provider.

Thanks, actually I have updated the link now. And yes the code will be entered manually.
