Where Can I Fillup and Pay at The Bowser?

I don't want to install an app just for a petrol station are there any places that will allow me to pay with card at the Bowser?

BP has an app that lest u pay via app at the bowser

The pay @ Pump services were pretty much discontinued with the advent of the smart phone.

Gilbarco which is the main supplier of petrol pumps in Aus no longer makes a pump with payment facilities, havent for many years.
As stations upgrade their pumps Pay @ Pump services have been phased out.

    • My local Petrogas is unmanned and only has the option of pay at the pump.
I would recommend OP to look for unmanned servos near his house.

    costco

  • I go to a station where an attendant takes your card payment via a mobile EFTPOS terminal. Easy.

Only can think of Costco without installing any app

I thought they wanted mobiles to be switched off as it could cause ignition.

    • It's to get you to pay attention while filling.

    • You're not paying while you're filling.

Everywhere in the USA. It's almost mandatory.

    • mandatory, like the card skimming that comes with it, free. and why I think CBA forced it all turned off here in the nineties/naughties.

They want you to go instore to purchase their $4 Snickers bar.

      This is the 100% truth

Most service stations allow to use your credit card at the bowser.

    • 7 eleven doesn't

    • Might be different where you are, but this is certainly not true where I live. Most/all were phased out about a decade ago.

Absolutely none of my local fuel stations have this feature. There are approximately 8 fuel stations within a 5km radius and none have this. I often fill up in other areas when I am out doing deliveries, and I cannot think of a single service station I have been too within 100km of here that has this feature… So, yeah nah on "most"

    • Andy - reporting live from California!

    • Almost none in Melbourne. It's ridiculous, it was great when it was available and it seems like a huge step backwards.

Is there a reason you're not filling up at Costco? Are there none in your area?

    • My local Costcos are around 20 km from me in either direction. Not going to travel that far for petrol unless I was already in the area.

  • I don't know is there a good reason to be using Costco?

Costco is typically 15 to 30c cheaper than other stations in the area. That means on a 65L tank you can save up to $30 in petrol.
That's just 2-3 full refills to get the money back on the membership fee.

      • Didn't know this, they never show up on the nsw app but I'll check it out next time. Thanks!

      • Do we need a Membership for petrol too? If it’s that much cheaper it’s worth the detour from M31 before getting on to the M5.

        • +1

Yeah you need to scan your membership card at the pump.

    Ampol has an app

    • -2

      Didn't read past the title?

  • Fast fuel in Forrestfield

  • They need this in the 711 app.
Lock in the price and pay via the app but as said, too many upsells with people going in.
Can't I just order my $1 coffee, someone brings it out while I'm filling up and pay with the app. Would be perfect!

what is this about ? i have no idea

  • Quix (Now known as Mobil only) used to have these at their pumps and this was 10+ years ago. They've since removed them

Not sure why this isn't the norm

  • There are OPT which you pay at the bowser via card. Saying that these are normally located at truck stops.

We really should adopt Japanese petrol station. You can pay cash or card at each bowser.

My local Caltex/Woolies has a card reader on the bowser, so I assume you can pay without entering the store. I've never tried it. Always pay inside to swipe my ER card and deliberately refuse the $4 Snickers bar or any other upsell they offer me :-) They've got the message now, and don't offer it to me.

  • Might help to give a hint where you are?
Lots of country towns in Western Australia have 24hr unattended stations, but that is probably not helpful.
There are also a number around Perth Metro, mostly around industrial areas. The fuelwatch webpage for WA puts an asterisk next to the price of unattended stations.
I think there are some attended stations with pay at the pump too. The Puma near Murdoch Uni is the only one I've used recently.

  • Sydney,nsw

  • If you’ve got a car running on diesel you can pull into a truck stop bowser.
They mostly have it for out of hours sales but can be used during the day at most.

Other then that, doubt you would see it much anywhere else.
Haven’t seen it at regular bowsers for years in WA.
Maybe regional areas may have it for regular fuel?

Fyi, you won’t be popular with truckies if you use a truck bowser and hold them up 😅
