I hope those phone booths never go away.
Or Superman will have no place to change clothes….

  • But do they include sanitisers to sanitise the phone after use? to stop the spread of covid-19.

  • Thanks, OP. +1 because it is free. :)

The 6 hour call limit will be a problem if you are trying to contact Telstra

    • Yep centrelink too, that's why you bring along your BCF camping chair, to wait for a call back.

  • I couldn't find any mention of free calls to 13 and 1300 numbers anywhere, one would assume they are included as most government departments and other agencies are generally 13 numbers. There is a pulic phone around the corner so I am going to go and test it out tomorrow.

It's not that altruistic as reported in the AFR today: https://www.printfriendly.com/p/g/U2pFEB

    • Its not just saving money collecting the coins. I bet they are hoping to save a heap of money from less vandalism, when there is no money in them to be stolen. They want the junkies to go back to mugging pensioners and breaking into houses.

      • They get advertising on the booths which makes money and they also get branding recognition to sell their NBN/mobile.

  • My local telstra payphone gets spit and pooped on daily by the locals and still gets used. That phone is going to be busy as he'll. There will be fights for sure outside of it haha

  • So many opinions on this. Who would have thunked? Maybe somebody gasping their last covid breath with a flat battery on their cell phone will find it useful?

You're all so cynical and naive!
    I like it.
We should do a poll on the likely [un]intended side effects.

  • I use to use McDonald's straws for free phone calls….if you know you know.

  • prank calls, hello!!

  • What is the difference between local call and national call?

    • See Section 23.1 for the definitions. ("National call" is named "long distance call" in this document.)

Charging districts, zones, and precincts are listed here.
