This doesn't seem to get enough attention in this thread with all the chat about the product itself.

I'm definitely looking for this thing, but I'm a bit weary of the seller. I see them pop up a lot on OzB, but they're banned from posting here and I see a fair bit of negative about them online. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/wireless1.com.au

Never bought anything from them, so I don't know, but I think I'll pass on this one.

      • Pay with PayPal and you're sorted. Never arrives, you'll get your money back.

  • Excellent router.
Have one connected to a DSL-AX82U and hasn’t skipped a beat.

This is a weapon WIFI router, so powerful, and rock solid

  • This router does it need a modem?

Sorry, I'm pretty clueless on this kind of stuff. I've only ever had a modem + router in the same unit so I just connect NBN to the thing. Does this require something like a modem or will this also just NBN line in and does everything?

Each technology is different. A VDSL2 modem is not supplied by nbn. The nbn NTD and NCD is supplied by nbn.

      FTTN, FTTB = VDSL2 modem + RT-AX86U.
      FTTC = nbn NCD + RT-AX86U.
      FTTP, HFC = nbn NTD + RT-AX86U.

  • I am with TPG - FTTP - Tried Google Nest Mesh and the point seldom works. Ended up returning it.

Just bought the Deco M9 plus (2 unit). Is this better than the deco unit for me? wondering If I should cancel it and buy this instead?

Do you mean the node didn't work? Might be the positioning of the units
the Asus one is a powerful router, it should cover big houses
Deco would be more suitable if you have more smart devices as it act as a smart hub as well. Or much bigger house, where you could add more nodes

      • I initially thought it was positioning but the point would keep disconnecting from the router and sometimes would not connect even after reboot/hard reset. The connection from the router was also not that great. I work remotely and my Citrix session disconnects and reconnects every few mins… I ran some packet loss tests and found it was dropping packets consistently even on a ping test. Ended up returning it as Google support could not figure out what was wrong and their replacement devices also had the same issue.

Anyway, I am back to the default router given by TPG and it's 1000X better than nest wifi… Yet, sometimes behaves weirdly and the speed drops, signal strength goes to 1 bar.

Want to replace the router with something that will give good coverage and throughput throughout bcz It's just a 2 bed apt, not sure why the current router cannot function well … maybe there is a lot of interference

        • If you have Ethernet points through the house, m9 might work OK

But assuming the ISP is working OK, the Asus one will dedo be an upgrade

Hey guys, sorry for the late post… Beware!!

I bought an ASUS router on ebay, it had no region code and the serial number sticker was removed.. Contacted ASUS and they don't have it in their system. I think its refurbished, the seller(s) offer their own 1 year warranty but you wont get any official support from ASUS

    • Remember who the seller was? Looking at this sellers feedback in guessing this isn't an issue in this instance?

      • -2

yeah it says local store warranty so i think they are more legit

can you run two of these as a mesh?

  • +1

    Thanks OP, have purchased one.

  • Seems to be expired now :)

    • Yeah, the best I can get is $399 using $10 off with After Pay - is that it or am I missing something?

  • What’s the best way to test WIFI speed - I have used different apps ( on my iPhone ) and I get different results - is there anything reliable and what the best way to test WIFI 2.4 and 5 speeds - I have RTAX88U

  • Mine arrived today. Very happy with it.

    • Yep mines arrived as well. Getting 900Mbps on 11ax! And I can actually saturate my aussie broadband 1Gbps HFC NBN now.
