  • Bought this in one of the previous sales. Solid receiver.

Just be aware it needs a hardware update to support HDMI 2.1

    • Just to verify do you mean hardware or firmware update? Fairly different is all

      • Hardware, if you need 4k/120. I think just firmware if you need 4k/60.

    • Tell us more about this hardware update

Update for HDMI 2.1 Compatibility of Select 2020 AV Receivers with Certain Gaming, Video Devices (May 2021)
        Affected models: RX-V4A, RX-V6A, RX-A2A and TSR-700

For certain pass-through compatibility with: Xbox Series X, NVIDIA RTX30

From the time we launched several AV receivers in 2020, we stated that we would support emerging HDMI 2.1 capabilities – including pass-through of 4K/120Hz – in these models via future updates. A future hardware update is required on the above AV receivers for customers who plan to connect Xbox Series X or NVIDIA RTX30 at 4K/120Hz to these select AV receivers.

The information below provides further detail for customers requiring 4K/120Hz transmission compatibility with the above AV receivers and the Xbox Series X or NVIDIA RTX30 video device.

For Customers Requiring 4K/120Hz from Select Xbox, NVIDIA Source Devices
A free update program will be available starting in fall 2021 to update the HDMI board on these AV receivers to allow for the 4K/120Hz signal transmission with these source devices.

This HDMI board update is complimentary to customers for 24 months after the program starts.
We will provide an update of next steps here this summer.
Be sure to register your product to be notified of next steps and receive direct communication about the update program.
        Please Note:

You will not need this HDMI board update unless you are planning to connect an Xbox Series X gaming or a NVIDIA RTX30 video graphic card device at 4K/120Hz signal transmission.
These AV receivers (above) currently support HDMI pass-through of 4K/60Hz signals with HDR (HDR10 and Dolby Vision) and may be used with the latest gaming devices.
These AV receivers currently support HDMI eARC, which allows 4K/120Hz sources to be connected directly to a compatible TV, with the audio fed to the AVR via eARC.
The newly released RX-A4A, RX-A6A and RX-A8A are unaffected by the pass-through issue, requiring only a future firmware update to enable certain HDMI 2.1 capabilities.

        • so basically ones in channel need the board

new new "my2022" models do not need the board but need an update

if you get an nos pre "my2021" model that needs the board but didnt get the board during the 24 month update program time frame then you have to pay

to me this whole shenanigans makes me want to go to any other brand but really is there much at $560?

further these things sound shit on music but eh… do does everyone else at $1k etc.

          • @tonyjzx: 9/10 brands have the same HDMI issue, Yamaha is offering the best solution for free. I've seen other brands send users external HDMI 2.1 hubs, and some just not do anything, as well as free hardware upgrades, replacements.
