Which Brands Do You Blindly Trust and Why?

Everyone had great time I think sharing their stories and experiences with brands that they boycott here.

Are there any brands that you blindly trust? Why?

    Harvey Norman.

I don't even need to bother comparing prices anywhere else or trying to bargain because I know their prices can't be beat.

    • (Ill take out my 'personal' opinion of Gerry becuz you dont mix feelings with money)

really i havent found that to be the case at all, dont get me wrong they do have some good specials and the sales people can generally be talked down to get some decent deals but i certainly wouldnt that they are the cheapest all the time

I mean i think things like appliances online, good guys, ebay etc often beat HN (but not always)

(also i didnt downvote you im just commenting)

Yeah no I was just kidding.

Didn't go well. Would've thought I'd get more downvotes. Didn't think it was very ozb like to buy from Harvey Norman without comparing prices

  • In no specific order, based on my 100% subjective experience/perception of product quality:

Monitor Audio, Rel, Line6, Jackson, D'addario, Denon, Fractal Design, Audio Technica, NeroGiardini, Ballarini, Bialetti, Lavazza, Monini, Gentilini, Doria, Armata Di Mare, Okamura, Steelcase, Gigabyte.

Pilot for anything mid tier and above. Their fountain pens are great value and super consistent.

  • Muji. Yeah they got me by the balls.

  • Wouldn't say i trust any brand 'blindly' but certain brands i generally associate with quality, value for money and/or uniqueness

To trust a brand blindly is foolish

Once upon a time Blizzard made some of the best games in the world now not to much, something similar could be said about Bioware

    and it works both ways

Kia/Hyundai used to be one of the sh1test car brands in the world now they have turned there company around and are brilliant value for money

A lot of people cry about the 'free market' but it almost always is the best way as the competition drives the market forward and generally the consumer is better for it.

Kirkland, Costco's stuff is usually good. Especially in the USA.

    Tag Heuer watches

    • Lego
    • Rolex
    • Range Rover
    • HCF
    • Huawei
  • I don't blindly trust them but never had too many issues with Singapore Airlines, Ardbeg, Lagavulin

  • Nintendo. That's it.

Google Pixel. Can't beat stock android, with support from the creators of Android.

    • +1

Oh god I've had a range of Google phones from Nexus to pixel and they're all dead from looping and bricking and suffered from extreme lag after a few months use. All my iPhones still work perfectly.

    Durex
Because I never had a kid 9 months later after using one.

      That you know of

Pfizer! If it can lift the dead it must be good!

    None.

In consumer capitalism the only thing that matters is profits. Any deed by a company that verges from this goal is either marketing (used to increase profits) or law/regulation imposed by governments to correct negative externalities (environmental damage, market power, labour conditions, anti-competitive behaviour, etc..).

I like xiomai, but just waiting unt They sell them selves out, so far they've brought products to the market in high quality, only apple or Samsung made in ludicrous price range.

That's not to say xiomai will be them in time given how things are going with their phone category.

However in the TV section xiomai's definitely a contender to rival lg's oleds with much cheaper range.

But give it time and everything will be expensive, and we will have to build our own products.

  • Toyota - you dont get to being the highest selling car maker with the lowest defects for no reason. Also toyota owner of 9years, same vehicle, no issues
Stihl - have a going on 20yr old chainsaw, still all original except for bar & chains
Fiskars - great axes, super sharp and strong. great warranty
Microsoft Windows - just works, simple, compatible with everything
Google - who could live without google maps?? I couldn't
Sony Cameras and lenses - quality quality quality
BF Goodrich - 2nd set of tyres, first lasted 80k km, this set going on 100k km. that's decent wear
Bunnings - bloody good prices and even better return policy

As someone has already said - old blizzard, fantastic, quality games. Activision/blizzard = disaster

this is a great question. I don't really have any brands that i blindly trust.

But i certainly have brands that i won't do AS MUCH research to determine the quality of their products as i do trust they have a better repetation for quality.

i.e. I'll do less research on the quality of a makita, dewalt, milwaukee tool, whilst something like the Ozito & Ryobi related product i'll do much more research on to determine if it will last.

But i don't think any consumer should get to a point where they blindly trust a brand, as it doesnt encourage healthy competition and could potentially result in the consumer either overpaying or getting a subpar product.

  • Not me, my old man is a farmer and constantly dealing with rust. He uses Japanese made impact screwdriver called "Vessel", he absolutely hammers the jesus out on the screwdrivers and it cracks anything open. We have some really old bombs on the farm the impact driver is perfect for these, old rusted landcruisers that needs fixing because the liberal government decided to ban quad bikes, it was cheaper to go mad max.

    • +1

      Vessel screwdrivers are top notch.
Other Japanese built tools like KTC and Ko-Ken are similarly unbreakable.

They really do make stuff well in Japan.

I trust a lot of companies already mentioned.

Also Heinz - they have an interesting history and an ethos of food purity. They helped to regulate food standards in the US at a time when anyone could falsely advertise the ingredients of food. Still today if you buy Heinz soup they either have minimal or no preservatives. If it's pea and ham soup for instance the only preservatives they use are for the ham which is essential.

I feel like I am needing to trust Pfizer blindly. I am getting their vaccine based on new technology (mRNA) because of the circumstances, and because scientists have endorsed it.

    • Pfizer? There hasn't been enough time to blindly trust them, you need longitudinal data to blindly trust on something like this…. Hopefully it's all good and they earn our complete trust one this one.

      • +1

Yes I agree the situation is not ideal. We don't have that data, yet I am going in there without it and getting the shot.

There is an argument for Astrazeneca based on tried and trusted technology.

  • Kirkland. Haven't tried all their products as it is quite extensive but they are pretty good I feel

  • +1

Haven't seen anyone mention Logitech yet.

Everything I've bought from them has been built incredibly well, easy to service/repair (Mouse microswitches/li-po batteries, have completely torn down K215, K220, K230 and was able to remove PCB and clean everything plastic/rubber with water) thoughtfully and aesthetically well designed, and if you catch it on sale is incredibly competitive price-wise (See: Regular JB Hi-Fi deals posted here)

I do feel like they do really good job with the battery life of the wireless mouse.

I genuinely wish they'd just change from Omron China though (3 mice I had from them all developed double clicking issues)
Granted you can replace the switches on the mouse if you have the skills, but should I really need to?

      • That's true they can be prone to ghost clicks. Had it happen with the original MX Master but was able to RMA it for a replacement, which also had the same issue after a year lmao. Switch replacement was super easy but I agree that higher quality switches would elevate the mice they make.

        • Yep definitely.

Like, don't get me wrong, I like Logitech mouse. Their battery life, their shape, their build quality and their price on wireless mouse I feel are really hard to beat. A better switch would cost like less than a dollar (I know they'd add up and it'd be something like millions of dollars), and it'd make end consumers happy. :'(

  • For me its
Samsung: Never had a problem with their phones, except the Omnia windows phone, but thats windows
Gigabyte: Never had a problem with the mobos
    Logitech: No real problems
Nike Running/Gym Shoes: Never had a problem except the shoe laces keeps undoing even when they're tight as
Olay Total Effects: Always made my skin nice and never had any reactions
Rayban: No problems with them after like 6 pairs

  • Bought the Astro A50 headphones for my Xbox, they were pricey, but they reviewed well and I loved them when I got them.

My dog? Didn’t like them as much, decided to use them as a chew toy about 9 months in.

I invented new swear words when I found them with the mic chewed off…

Contacted support Astro support, sent photos explaining what happened and asked if I could order replacement parts, they said no but said I could purchase a refurbished unit at a discount.

Received a follow up email about 10 minutes later with a shipping notification.

    They replaced them for free.

    Customer for life.

  • Cold Steel. I've never had an issue with their knives and Lynn has always come across as an honest man, I like their videos on youtube of them showing their knives and other weapons in action, it gives me a good idea of how much abuse they can take without breaking and i don't have to spend a few hundred dollars and find that out the hard way.

  • +1

What a nonsense question, blind trust is a religion.

  • I would not trust any company blindly, but have consistently good experiences with Google and JB Hi-fi. Add Amazon to that, as they offer peace of mind if product is not as described. ( Had to use it once, as someone tried to sell you utensils, when it clearly stated otherwise).
Apple has good reputation- personally, didn't have a chance for customer service, but went with friends, and they had top notch customer service.
Now, have a work iPhone 12 Pro Max 512 GB, and it is quite sturdy, with a long battery life.
(Still prefer my Google Pixel 4XL- bigger screen, better security and more freedom to control my phone).

    Lego

My husband or kid will say 'there's a bit missing'

My response is … "Look harder or on the floor. Lego doesn't make mistakes!"

  • 1- Maui Jim. Excellent polarised lenses, great quality.
2- From Software. Big fan of all Soulsborne games. Blindly pre-ordered any games they’ve released so far.

  • This is an odd one but I try to always patronise independent servos. I beleive most independents use mobil anyway so its all the same shit.

I cant remember like literally the last time I used a Shell or Caltex or Coles or BP…. the majors are all giant scumbags responsbile for global warming and other great things like deepwater horizon.

At least when you go to an independent you're keeping an ethnic family in business.

Also they are cheaper and dont indulge in 4c off coupon receipts.

  • I don't trust any brand blindly…that's for simpletons, and fanatics.

  • Bosch, Braun come to mind. As with most German stuff. We’ve had heaps of Bosch things, dishwasher, few power tools, washing machine, vacuum etc. never had any issues after 5-10 years of use and the quality is always great. Price is always decent. Braun toothbrushes, shaver, oh and our beloved old stick mixer which is better than the new Phillips one I bought. I just bought a Braun toaster from Amazon UK, hoping for years of use of that after our kenwood POC failed after about 1.5 years.
