I have never heard of this brand. So still comes down to $38 incl. shipping. Rather go for a branded (e.g. Netgear) for about $53 at MSY.

Probably should put price in title.

  • Put PRICE in title…

Will this go great with your $199 netbook? :P

        • Yes, this will work with all wireless 802.11 b, g or n.

This will work great with my $149 netbook! Huzzah $50 cash back.. yah baby.

I've been waiting a while for something to pop on ozbargain that will go great with my $199 netbook, this isn't the one.

Edit: I NEVER CLICKED "I work for adslOZ"

        • EDIT: me neither, :(

April Fools, oh wait that's another month away. Damn!!!

        • @bentan77, @dmc900 - sorry guys, will investigate rep checkbox problem.

  • First time I've heard of this brand too. Also you may know already, but in case, this is just a router, no DSL modem function in it.

bad timing… by now we all know about the Cisco deal tomorrow

  • Every brand is a no-brand until customers start buying.

This deal makes this only a $28.00 router.

After you notice the products specs and performance and pro's and cons, and consider over 200 million modem routers are made and sold by this manufacturer into the China Telecom channel, then you might consider the benefit.

    Cheers

    • +3

Fair point, but with no reviews for this model in existence, all we have to go on in terms of quality is your word. And not every brand has the potential to be a good brand, which depends on more than customers' willingness to buy.

What name are they sold under on the Chinese market, so that we can research customer reviews?
Is it actually possible to buy it for $28, without having to spend $10 on shipping? If not, it's a $38 router.

    • +3

Every brand is a no-brand until customers start buying.

You know what your a getting with a brand name router…

As for this one, that is anybody's guess…

  • +3

VERY VERY bad brand! stay away — friend had absolutely nothing but trouble and retailer wouldn't accept it as a return … luckily enough they're cheap as dirt, too bad they're about as good as dirt too

    • and retailer wouldn't accept it as a return …

      http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1023610

      • Agreed.

As we have NOT SOLD these yet, I doubt the posting information.

        Cheers,

        • we have NOT SOLD these yet

then how do you know if they are any good?

        • It wasn't purchased from you guys, I say "the retailer", not "this retailer"

      • they argued on the grounds that it's a router and it does what the specs say it does, they would only offer a replacement; they wouldn't accept the fact that it wasn't working properly instead insisting that we must have set it up wrong or weren't operating it properly… it wasn't worth fighting over (hence the cheap as dirt comment)

    • -2

Please advise, as no-one sells or has this brand and we would like to assist this "friend of yours" and advise us of the reseller so as action can be taken against them.

Please contact me if you have any details.

For those that need to know, its manufactured by http://www.twsz.com/ and marketed in China as http://goldwebcn.com

TWSZ have about 40% of the local Chinese market, and also make OEM for Netcomm, and other brands worldwide.

As a large and reputable manufacturer, they are looking to grow outside China. Checkout their Chinese websites when you want to get an idea of the range and types of products they produce.

We have already heavily tested their 3g modems and other Voip routers as well before we started to promote their products here.

    Cheers,

    • +2

Now that is actually useful information, which you probably should have published straight off, given that you are trying to promote an unknown brand. I would not have complained if you had. You must forgive my skepticism given the large number of no-brand products from China which are not all of acceptable quality.

  • Is DD-WRT or any third party firmware supported?

    • Hi Bob81, sorry for late reply, but had to get correct information from the engineering staff.

      DD-WRT : RTL8196c chipset doesn't support DD-WRT or the third party firmware.
We will have both updates for firmware and drivers etc for all models available on the website shortly. (Under construction atm).

Any further queries, let me know.

      • Above in the reply, the chipset is Realtek RTL8196c.
Below in the specs, the chipset is Broadcom BCM5357.

        Which is it?

        • Has both chipsets (and a few others) within the router, for processing, wireless, etc.

  • For those that do not know the specs or cant be bothered to find them, here they are:

      a bit too much tude i think…

System Support Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP 32/64 bit and Windows Vista 32/64bit

No Windows 7 support? How old is this device ???

      • Yes, AND windows 7 as well.

And as its a router, mostly makes no difference what OS is being used, but most knowledgeable tech-savvy people know this.

    • +5

Psst, you are being trolled by jv. Anyway good luck promoting the brand. Obviously it's hard to break into a market when you are an unknown brand.

      • Obviously it's hard to break into a market when you are an unknown brand.

According the rep, it has 40% of the market for a country of 1.5 billion people…

        • More like 1.34 billion, And it is probably quite possible, China is quite strict on the internet and may only allow certain products to be sold there. They wouldn't care whats exported though.

        • More like 1.34 billion

          you're being a bit fincky

    • Will this connect to an existing wifi network in wireless bridge? Is that what "AP client" is?

      • yes, will connect to existing network and act as AP client.

  • can you point me to the manufacturers' website for manuals, firmwares etc.

    • From what I can see. Goldweb don't list this model on there web site, nor do they provide any updates or downloads.
      http://www.goldwebcn.com

      • So 40% of the Chinese market and no updates? This brand is so reliable that no updates are needed?

Is this an advanced router or a bread toaster?

        • when i google 'GW-WR401ND' this thread is the most popular hit

that is worrying as hell since there seems to be no trace of this unit outside of ozbb!

        • Updates will be available shortly on the new website goldwebaustralia.com.au sometime next week.

    • We will be adding the "support and downloads" for this router and other models shortly on the Australian distributors website.

This will include manuals, firmware updates, etc, all on an Australian site (the distributors website http://3gplus.com.au/) as this model was made specifically for the Australian market, not the Chinese market.

  • IMO this isnt a bargain. Rec retail is same price as other much more well known brands that have regular updates and a support system that's much more likley to be there in the future. $28 is fair price for an unknown item, but not a bargain. For $10-20 more, you can get D-Link, Cisco, Belkin etc. and know exactly what you are buying and where to go for support.

    • For $10-20 more, you can get D-Link, Cisco, Belkin etc. and know exactly what you are buying and where to go for support.

D-Link -> No thanks, I don't want to fry eggs on my router.
      Cisco -> REALLY? Where? :O

      • "Cisco -> REALLY? Where? :O"

        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/65184

$0 actually… if you were lucky enough to get one.

And frying eggs on your router is bad m'kay;).

        • Yeah, the router doesn't taste very good afterwards. :)

        • Oh, is linksys owned by cisco?

        • +1

Yup, just do a web search and it's on home.cisco.com.

  • Because of the massive off-site enquiries, we will create a new website in the coming weeks for the Goldweb brand here.

    The domain will be www.goldwebaustralia.com.au

This site will have the other models, support, downloads, firmware etc.

Thanks to all the Ozbargain participants, and keep up the good work.

  • Using the coupon code you get 50% OFF the $56.00 dealer price, making it $28.00.

If $56 is the dealer's price, then is Warcom selling it at $0 profit, and Get1 selling it at $17 loss?

    • +1

All dealers and resellers have all asked for rebates, so we will take the loss as part of the marketing and promo, for the Australian Intro.

There is only a limited budget for this, so when the deals run out, then its back to normal trade.

  • Does this item comply with Australian C-tick? requirements?

    thank you

  • Yes, has C-Tick number.

  • Only two (2) days left before this deal goes back to normal.

A lot have taken the offer up, and we've had a great response.

Any offers taken and not purchased/completed by end of offer will be invalid.

This is to be fair to those that want to take up the deal offer as there a only a limited number of coupons available.

Thanks to those that have completed their checkouts.

    • You have the wrong date. The deal expired on 14/3/2012.
