  • Pretty good deal. Just purchased the Poco X3 Pro two weeks ago. Was $376 for the 8GB 256GB. Arrived in one week.

So far I have been super impressed. Then again, I had a Nokia 6.1 so it's definitely a step up.

  • Dxomark website do the camera testing on all phones. Great site if your looking at smartphone cameras.

    • I like DXOMark, but it's a stretch to say they test all phones; it's more like they test most of the popular high-end phones, some of the mid-range and almost none of the low end. They've only recently started testing the Xiaomi Redmi Note series, so hopefully they'll get more comprehensive in time.

  • Ordered one of these last weekend. Have yet to received it.

I am in Sydney, warehouse is in Sydney. Seems like the courier is having some issues with getting parcels out on time at the moment.
Courier is Aramex (Formerly Fastway), so if you order one of these expect it to take longer than the Banggood site suggests.

  • US$5.65 shipping?

    • Correct.

  • Shipping seems to be $12.35 USD for me?

    • +2

It reduces to $5.65 at checkout in the App

  • I am planning on getting the Poco F3. Other than the camera can anyone tell me any other negatives for the Poco F3. (Also warranty wise, I'm assuming goodbang won't provide any right? Where else could I get the Poco F3 to be covered?)

    • Checkout with PayPal. Then you can talk to them if anything goes wrong

      • But I think .. paypal won't really help if my device breaks 3 or 4 months later down the track?

    • +2
      • No headphone jack (you might not care - they do give you a 3.5mm -> USB-C adaptor
      • Not the most efficient chip, so battery life is not the greatest
      • AMOLED screen isn't the highest quality, so if it's really dark you'll see uneven blacks
      • MIUI is full of weird bugs - i.e. System Wide Dark mode breaks heaps of app UIs - and "optimizations" that close your apps in the background and stop useful things like GPS programs if you ever background them.

The camera isn't bad, it's just not great - I'm very happy with it for day time shots, but night time photos are a bit crappy quite often.

      • Droz do you daily this?

If so would you recommend any other ROMs that are much better?

        • +1

Yes, this is my every day phone.

          I really like it!

There is one problem I forgot about - pocket mode is a HuGE failure. I've never done so many accidental message sends or dials. It's crazy.

The finger print scanner is on the button, which is awesome, but you will often accidentally unlock it when you put it in your pocket if you brush against the button, and then for some reason it doesn't realise it's in your pocket, so it just starts going crazy on the screen inputs. sigh. You just need to be careful that it's locked.

I haven't tried any ROMs other than the Xiaomi.eu rom, which is like stock without all the ads and whatnot. Lots of little improvements. However, the MIUI bugs or eccentricities remain - i.e. the xiaomi.eu guys add some nice things, take some bad things away, but can't fundamentally change the ROM.

I haven't tried any AOSP based custom roms, as they still all seem a little too buggy in one way or another.

Upsides to AOSP - not MIUI, clean Android, works how you think
Downsides to AOSP - lots of bugs to do with sleeping and battery drain, always on display, 5g issues, camera performance is worse
Upsides to MIUI - performance, battery, camera app uses the full hardware, most things work better
Downsides - "MIUI Optimizations" aggressively manage apps, and to turn it off you need to do it for each individual app.

XDA link here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/xiaomi-poco-f3-xiaomi-mi-…) for the F3, you can read about the ROMs in there (though it's pretty annoying to wade through).

Anything with "OFFICIAL" is worth a read to work out problems.

I do recommend the xiaomi.eu MIIU based ROM. I 'm on the "weekly" which had all the bug fixes early that absolutely plagued the initial phone OS release.

          • @Droz: Interesting thanks for the write-up :) I might consider it soon. But I am a bit worried about the amount of security privacy breaches from the MIUI ROM. I read something about the MIUI browser and some apps monitoring everything you do and sends it over to overseas servers. I don't know how much of a certain it is though :/

            • @postform: Well, the thing is that you don't have to use any of the Xiaomi services - so, you can install Chrome, Firefox, whatever. I think the Xiaomi.Eu ROM kills a lot of the background stuff and services, so you don't need to use the xiaomi cloud services at all.

However, that's a great reason to look into Android Open Source Project (AOSP) ROMs like LineageOS and the like.

Here's a list of stuff that's in the xaiomi.eu ROM and not in the regular one (from the xiaomi.eu website):

Based on China Stable / Weekly builds
Enabled search gesture (swipe up) on the desktop

              Widevine L1 (for supported devices)

          • @Droz: As much as I like to tweak with roms, I think I'll stay with a simple google pixel phone for the stock android experience.

Also, thank you very much for the writeup!

  • I'm in need of a new phone and thinking about the poco f3.
Is that the best you recommend under $700 budget? I dont care about the camera - more performance
is there any issue downloading apps from the store and any issues using NFT?
where is the best place to purchase one right now?
    Any advise is much appreciated….thanks

    • +1

      The phone is blazingly fast.
NFC is works great (I assume this is what you meant?).
App Store is the regular Google one.
Camera is actually good, but it's just not Flagship level. For instance, it is better than my One Plus 5 Camera, and that was fine.

Warranty stuff will be difficult, else you should maybe get one of the locally supplied phones that come up on the forum (can't give you a recommendation now)

      • Thanks Droz… will try a local (ebay) dealer today

  • How could it stack with cashback if Shopback doesn't pay cashback on App purchases?

  • Should we be concerned in Australia?

    https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/lithuania-say…

"Flagship phones sold in Europe by China's smartphone giant Xiaomi Corp (1810.HK) have a built-in ability to detect and censor terms such as "Free Tibet", "Long live Taiwan independence" or "democracy movement", Lithuania's state-run cybersecurity body said on Tuesday."

    • Interesting - I guess this is the case for custom ROMs - I doubt the backdoors are at a hardware level?

    • i'm guessing it might only be an issue if you use the xioami browser

  • Doesn't appear to be doing discounted price for "Au Direct" any more. If I select that, it only has 'Onyx Grey' and 'other version' in stock, for $445.01 + $17.02 shipping.
If anyone knows of a similar bargain, can you point me in the right direction?

  • Just got my package from Banggood yes it took 4 weeks but it was packaged very well and came with aus conversation plug but I only got the REDMI 9T 5G

  • +1

This phone was delivered in two days from Sydney to Darwin. Don't understand how, that's normally impossible even with express post.

    • That's quick! Who was the courier?

      • +1

Startrack - Even with the strike it got delivered insanely quick. I think perhaps what worked in my favour is that it went straight to a parcel locker here. So picked up in sydney, and then basically post office to post office?

Tracking link if anyone is curious

        • I've had things from Vic to SA within 24hrs through star track

  • Available again at same price as a Flash Deal!

  • Setting up my Redmi note 9t 5G it is very nice, good quality device

  • Being AU Stock does the item come with Statutory warranty?

    • banggood warranty … ymmv

  • Loving my Redmi note 9T 5G

  • Anyone got their phones yet? Mine says in transit; est 26/9/21 (which has passed)
My tracking number starting with BN is invalid with Toll, startrack, Aus post. I am not sure what company they use; delivery method is AU Express Shipping

    • +1
      • Thanks, that worked. Looks like it hasn't moved from the warehouse in Sydney - probs covid related delays.

        • Got it yesterday - AU stock

  • Mine took 4 weeks

    • Is AU stock?

  • Ordered 11/09 and still have not received mine. Going Sydney-Sydney so I can only assume the hold up is with Aramex.

Banggood were pretty understanding with the refund process however.

    • Damn. What was your estimated delivery date?

      • Estimated delivery was meant to be 18/09 lol
