Samsung 970 Evo Plus Vs Samsung 980

Hi all,

So I managed to get both the 970 EP and 980 for about $150 from the previous ebay sales, effectively making the 970EP cheaper with the $20 steam credit. I was wondering based on experience , which one should I keep and would perform better? I dont care for the PCIE gen 4 as I read there is basically no difference expect for very specific circumstances. I am just using my PC for gaming and usual work. Some reviews say 980 is better with sustained speeds but 97EP has DRAM, although the controller might be switched out as stated in the Samsung bait and switch news recently

  • If no specific usage, then absolutely no noticeable difference. Though I don't have a 970 Evo Plus, I run both 980 pro and 980, with no difference in turns of loading time and whatnot. It is a tough decision you have though. Arguably and on paper, 970 Evo Plus is better in most aspects except so I probably go for that.

Thank you. I don't think my work requires the sustained speed so I will likely go with the 970 Evo Plus

Check if your 970 Evo has the switched out DRAM. If not then I would keep that one.

    • I'll definitely test using Crystal Disk mark but how can I check if it has switch out the DRAM?

EDIT: IF it has been switched then will the 980 be a better option?

      • The old version's part number is MZVLB1T0HBLR whereas the new version is MZVL21T0HBLU.

Are you going to notice the difference between the old and new 970 evo plus versions and even the 980? Probably not, if all youre doing is gaming and 'work' if work is just general stuff.
