Makita LXT OPE 460mm 18" 18V x 2 Brushless Lawn Mower Kit, $720 (Save $89) + Bonus Leaf Blower via Makita @ Bunnings Warehouse

820

My 25 year old Victor is on it's last legs.
Still starts first pull everytime, but rust and age are beginning to take over.
Recently bought a Makita whipper snipper.
So much easier and quieter.

This has steel deck and 460mm cutting width.
Also comes with 2x 6-0 amp hour batteries plus dual rapid charger. You also get a free blower by redemption.
I already have the same blower so will flog it off on ebay/gumtree.
This kit is only is $21 more than the 5.0 amp hour kit without the blower.
Normally $809
Other tool shops still at $809.

    • The Victa also appears to have a steel deck

  • Any good deals on the batteries?

  • Got same mower and blower via redemption earlier this year for $799 + shipping as a kit with 3x5AH batteries. Works well for me, highly recommend.
This one is a much better value with 2 batteries and cheaper.

  • For Sydney tools price match policy:
    The following exclusions apply:
    Where a credit is already being offered on Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee or Hitachi during the brands related roadshow or sale event;
Does it mean if they do match they won't offer the store points?

I tried and they said I was not able to combine. Had to choose between the points and price beat ($715).

      • I tried, they also refused

        • I also tried, they refused. Went 200m up the road to Bunnings due to superior service and superior returns policy

  • How does this deal compare to the $949 Ego LMLB1903E that comes with a free blower skin (~$249 value) and extra 2.5AH battery (~$200 value) by redemption?

TBH I would pick the EGO every day of the week. For less than $100 more than this deal, I would go with this kit + something like this to get you over $800 for the free battery redemption.

Personal preference of course as I know plenty of people are happy with their Makita's.

Yeah, if I wasn’t already so deep in the Makita ecosystem, I’d go this EGO bundle

Thinking of getting the mower and the trimer: https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-lxt-ope-2-x-18v-loop-hand…

Sell the extra blower, and perhaps one of the dual charger (but keep all the batteries). Then sell the petrol mower/trimer/blower, convert to all electric. Good idea?

I already have other Makita tools, so this is tempting.

Maybe out of pocket $300 if all goes well.

    • +1

Yep, if it all goes to plan that sounds good and even better is moving away from petrol powered engines.

    • Now only if they would do a mower + trimmer deal…

  • That’s the trimmer I bought last year.
I find I prefer a bent shaft over his straight one.
I’m lucky to get the 2x 5Ah down one bar before I’m done so battery life is overkill

Interesting you are looking to sell a charger as well

I say go full electric. I just did

    • I actually prefer a straight shaft. Not sure if it applies to electrics, straight shaft is more desirable for petrol trimmers because the drive gear is heavier duty and torqueier than drive cable.

Any reason to keep 2 dual chargers? It appears to worth $100+ resell.

      • I never considered selling the 2nd charger
You are right, I don’t need 4 battery charger ports
I might consider it as a bundle on the blower if a buyer is interested

got this - it struggles with thick Sir Grange turf - be aware.

    • Yeah I'm struggling to see how this got so many up votes… 82v victa mower (1.5kw motor) with steel deck is $599 every day at Bunnings. Going to have a heap more grunt than this 18v one for more $$$.

      • Victa batteries are extortionately expensive. If you can't get your mow done in one charge it's either inconvenient or $$

        • and now that victa 82v mowers are getting phased out as the manufacturer went bust, you may not be able to buy one in few years time.

          • @snajper: You'll still be able to buy batteries, even if they are aftermarket. Just seems like a much better buy than an 18v plastic mower for more $$$ to me.

Edit: Also it doesn't seem as though B&S are going to go away, yes they went bankrupt last year but they've been bought out now and seem to still be running as a business. The 82v mowers don't seem to be on runout or anything, so I believe it's all still a current product line.

        • One of the Victa 82v mower kits does come with 2 batteries.

  • does anyone have any experience with the EGO mower?
    https://sydneytools.com.au/product/ego-lmlb1703e-power-56v-5…

wondering how the Makita performs in comparison to the EGO.

    • I'd go with the EGO. I linked this exact kit + a $15 trimmer head to get you over the $800 mark for a free battery.

      • cheers, i'll have a look!

        • Sorry, should have mentioned that I linked it on the previous page.

      • But why?
I have both eco systems… and an Ozito mower.
I have 2 ego blowers, and about 7 makita batteries.

I like that the ego folds, ~4kg lighter, but it does look bulkier.
The Makita has higher rpm, metal deck and is wider… and cheaper.

        • Because the Ego would be my choice.

I have both eco systems… and an Ozito mower.
I have 2 ego blowers, and about 7 makita batteries.

          OK and?

I much prefer the look of the Ego, it's lighter (as you stated), 56v battery and an extra years warranty on the battery and charger.

  • Got this Makita Mower. Anyone notice that theirs would auto-shut down when mowing short grass/ under light loads? Mine frequently does this and wondering if its a faulty unit or battery saver feature?
Otherwise works fine mowing medium to tall grass without issue.

    • I’ll try mine this weekend and let you know

    • Bought one today… stalls all the time with mulcher, but not with the catcher.

    • Did my lawns today.
Front yard was on light (quiet mode) and took about 8-9mins and basically took a couple mm off the top.
Mower kept going the whole time.
      Have you tried different batteries?
If yes, then I would get it looked at under warranty

  • I have following questions:

    1. Is this Makita model better than Petrol mowers like Massport (https://www.mitre10.com.au/masport-petrol-lawn-mower-400st-s…)

    2. If we talk about this Makita model - It has 2 18V 6AH batteries whereas EGO model comes with 56V (https://www.tradetools.com/ego-56v-42cm-brushless-push-lawn-…). If we compare Makita and EGO in terms of the voltage of batteries, isn't EGO batteries have more power (like petrol lawn mowers) to mow the lawns?

    3. How long does Makita batteries survive means after how many years of usage, we need to replace them? As Makita gives 2 years warranty on the battery and EGO gives 3, does this mean that after the warranty period, usually they get flat and we have to replace them?

      1. What do you mean "better" ? I would never go back to a petrol mower even if you paid me. Battery power is better by every possible metric you can measure apart from raw cutting power (which is the least important metric for a residential lawn, assuming there is actually enough power to do the job).

      2. Yes the EGO models are more powerful. I choose between the 56V EGO and the 82V Victa when I was buying (went with the Victa and it's fine).

      3. Yes you need to replace them eventually. They last many years. I have Ryobi batteries still going strong after 10 years.

      1. Probably not… it's pretty good though, heavy too.
      2. Voltage != more power, you could make it 10,000v and less powerful the 12v. It's current (A) x volt (V). voltage is NOT a measurement of power. The power depends on how the motor was wound and quality of the magnets.
      3. Many variables here… I like the ego battery pack more bcos it's 1 pack and nicely laid out.
  • I don't have much knowledge in this area but wouldn't this be better and cheaper (even though it has only one battery): https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-lithium-36v-5-0ah-18-brush…

    Im assuming 36V is stronger?

Could someone explain what makes this a great mower? I can see its a great deal as it comes with the free blower, but is the mower actually good?

  • In my opinion all electric mowers are overpriced.
They are very simple machines (excluding the battery) and should be cheaper.
The redemption blower lessens the sting

  • I think we will see more small engined devices like mowers and brushcutters going battery electric since California passed the law recently to ban small petrol engined devices …

Though not sure what they will do about generators ….

  • The Makita 36V Steel Deck Lawn Mower Skin 460mm DLM464Z is $548 at Mitre 10.. that is without batteries and charger for people who already have batteries and charger.
I am sure you could get them cheaper than Mitre 10 price ..

  • I think this would be a better deal if you do not already have Makita batteries etc..

    From total tools ..
    EGO 56V 420MM (16.5") MOWER AND 900M³/H BLOWER 1 X 5.0AH COMBO KIT LMLB1703E $ 799

    https://www.totaltools.com.au/174365-ego-56v-420mm-16-5-mowe…

    • How is the Ego kit better ?
it does look quite 'modern' , just wondering how it also compares to sthil, etc also

  • Can’t find any stock of the mower near castle hill.
Although was told Smithfield have 9 in stock.
(Blacktown had “2” but when you call they’re already out of stock, same with northmead)

Ended up paying slightly more at Sydney Tools. Refused to price match bunnings though, so ended up $80 worse off.

  • Yeah, I grabbed mine from Northmead before I posted the deal. They usually only stock 1 when I’ve looked in store.
