big dump on these Z590 boards, Some good deals to be had. Im guessing they are only going to get better over the next few weeks. Be good time for budget build minus the video cards.

is there a deal on an Asus one? #asusornothing

  • What stopped me from getting this board was (1) the CPU prices and (2) requiring older generation gear for 4k playback

I would have copped (1) if Intel hadn't royally screwed up (2).

    • I'm really out of the loop on state of play so keen to know what you mean by (2) if you don't mind explaining? Thanks!

OK, So even though I said 4k, I meant UHD playback from a UHD disc drive. If you're playing 4k streaming services or 4k stuff that's encoded into a regular pc file, the requirements below don't apply.

For UHD playback from a UHD disc in a UHD Drive in your PC:
The motherboard requires SGX. Z590's don't have it (it was dropped.. need an older mobo)
        The motherboard requires HDMI out.
Intel CPU can't be newer than 10th gen.
Display must be HDCP2.2 AND be connected by the intel HDMI port built into the motherboard. I could have worked around that (two hdmi inputs on my monitor, so just flick which one is active when playing back UHD)

Thank you so much for the explanation!

  • A decent discounted Z590 might be a good option with 11th gen, considering there are rumours floating around that performance of Alder Lake drops by up to 30% on mid-tier and budget z690 motherboards due to the VRMs not being able cope.

These are one of the worst Z590 motherboards around…

VRM.. hotter than expected.. performs worse than their cheapest boards.. desipte having quality components.

Finally the community figured out that gigabyte has pretty much screwed up aspect of the powerplane of the Z590 board.

    Warning DO NOT BUY…

Great pity. because the B560M Aorus Pro Ax is one of the best value / performing boards in that class..
