Hey guys. Dick Smith just told me that all DSE stores are going to be closed on 2nd April so don't bother coming down. Just stay at home everyone. Trust me, I'm his son.

    Posted on Whirlpool:

how does this work if it is online too? lets say there are 10 items at one store, store opens at 8am, online opens at 8am, 10 poeple online buy the item and pay, does that mean its sold out becuase the online transaction is quicker?

    • +1

also wonder about what the system is for allocating online pickups.
someone orders an item for pickup, 10 mins later someone walks to the counter with the allocated item, does the assistant scan it and say they can't sell it because the last one in stock has been allocated? or do they just sell it to them and the person who purchased online is told too bad, they ran out?

      • +1

        Exactly what I was wondering.

Although I noticed that the online sale starts at 8am, whereas most (if not all) Dick Smith stores actually open at 9am.

Maybe that hour allows them to allocate the stock before opening.

      • Click and collect comes through on the pos, we grab it and put it aside.
It's also marked as 'allocated' so if we went to sell a copy that'd put us under-stock (before the click and collect was put aside)then computer says no. Ergo, assuming perfect world and air tight system we can't sell more than we have.

    • I think the online store has a stock limit to the whole "click and collect" thing… If it's low, it won't allow it? so there's a good chance that the online kiddies wont get access to the pickup in store option… ?

      • +16

I work at DS but am not speaking on behalf of them. This is the first I've heard of this sale but I'm only a weekend casual so I don't really find things out until the weekends :P

To sort of answer the click and collect question: Let's say you go online and check stock of a product. If the item has a few in stock, you can place an order, if there's 1 or 2 (I think the number differs between different types of products) it will tell you that stock is low and you can't put an order in online, you'd then need to ring up to manually get us to put one aside.

Now when you put the order in, it doesn't come up instantly in store. We once put in a click and collect from the store computer and it took maybe 10 odd minutes to show up in the system. I'm assuming it's done as a batch process. When it does show up, we basically get a little notice on our system that a new click and collect has come in. We click on it and we can see what the item(s) are and it changes the status transaction status to "picking" where we go grab the items off the shop floor/from the back and put them aside with a little note on them. If for whatever reason we can't do that (such as the xbox you ordered just got sold, or for some reason the item isn't in perfect condition) we've got all your details so we can call you up and say "Hey sorry but we can't fill your click and collect." So unless someone stuffs up, there shouldn't be a reason that anyone would pick up a product and be denied it because of a C+C.

        • Thanks for the reply.

Do staff start picking before the store opens? The sale starts at 8am, shops open at 9am.

Or are we better off just going in-store without ordering online?

        • +1

@Bigo if the computers are turned on they can receive click and collects. If you put one in at night or whenever they activate the sale, it will show up once the computers are turned. We'll put it aside even if the doors aren't open yet.

If you have the option of putting a C+C in, might as well do it.

I can see a lot of people coming back to revoke their vote on Monday morning.

    • It wouldn't matter, it would still be at the top for a few more days, and everyone can see how it went!

      • exactly the thing I was trying to avoid. Most of the Big deals on Ozbargain have gone sour within the past 6 months, what is to stop Dick Smith from pussying out?

    • Trust me, you wont see any revoked votes ;)

      • Ok…

      • +2

        I rest my case.

    • Both, please read previous posts for answers before posting.

      • -6

I asked mine on purpose just to annoy people :P made myself laugh which is all that matters.

      • -1

You know i said 'in line' and 'on store'?

        Which is it?

  • Do DSE still have the price match guarantee within 14 days thingo?

Might be wise to buy now and return monday to get the refund…

    • Just had a read of their website and it appears to be 7 days but this might get them out of it:

The price must not be below our cost price.

Even though DSE are selling it for the price it would still be under cost price then probably get them out of it.

  • +4

And then another 5% off for Woolworths Ltd staff on all purchases over $5.

  • +6

"10420 clicks" Welp, there goes my $20 DSi and everything else…Good luck getting anything that morning.

  • Where is the biggest Dick Smith store??

  • +2

This is quite a good April Fool's joke :D

    Suspicious points…
    1) Casual employee walked off with items discounted already today? (they can't do that)
    2) Manager says April 11th postponed sale? (Thats double the 1 for you, double the April fools :D)

Xbox Live 3000 points for $10? (that's a hefty profit for ebayer's, small item, easy to sell.)

For those like me born before 1978, google this —> Dick Smith’s “Iceberg”

My mama used to say, if it's too good to be true….

    • another fun fact
Manager says April 11th postponed sale? (Thats double the 1 for you, double the April fools :D)

double 1 is 2..also April the 2nd , double the April Fools :D

    • +2

Just as a word of advice, the Microsoft Points cards listed are not the normal cards seen in stores today.

They're the older stock ones, so you may have trouble finding stores with them in stock.

      • you just killed my dream of 30,000 ms points

    • Thirty-four years ago a man no longer associated with this business pulled a barge with foam on it into Sydney. Therefore in 2012 the business that has only his name would advertise a sale that would infuriate customers and tie up customer support for weeks if it weren't true. Air-tight logic.

      When the sale launches, I hope you remember another adage your mother probably told you;
      "Open mouth, insert foot".

  • Let's hope Dick Smith doesn't cock this up.

  • -3

Just FYI for all OZBargainers, This sale gaming sale is selected stores only.

Most of the larger stores in the Sydney region are included in the sale (my store is).

And just a hint - keep your eyes peeled for some amazing deals in the same selected stores in the coming weeks (notice how i used the plural "weeks" - i mean it)

    :)

    Have fun guys!

    • Any idea how we can find out which stores, and in case the store we are near is not participating, would an online order with pickup at that store work?

    • On the DSE Facebook page, someone on this post asked if the sale was on at particular stores, to which the DSE rep replied "All stores."

      https://www.facebook.com/dicksmithaustralia/posts/4038336496…

So is it selected stores or all stores?

      • +8

Do we believe that actual Rep or a Duck hmmm…

        • Not all stores have all the products in the sale in stock.

What you will find is several of the smaller stores have next to no stock available (some will have more than average) and most of the larger stores will have too much stock - at least in the Sydney region that is true as i work in one of the largest stores in Sydney.

No need for name calling in a great community like this monkeycheese.

        • Jayskies,

could you please tell me what are the biggest stores in Brisbane? Is it the CBD store on Queen Street or are the bigger stores more in the shopping centres/

        • +3

I was referring to your gravitar not you, its a pic of a duck! I hardly have grounds for name calling when my name is m0nkeycheese. Was just a joke cheer up ;)

        • Haha i getcha, all good mate. I can't even begin to comprehend what monkey cheese would look or taste like…

@Gallifrey, i personally do not no what are the large/small stores in Brisbane. Perhaps a fellow DSE brother can answer your question.

The large stores in Sydney are North Parramatta, Parramatta Westfield, Bankstown, Blacktown, Penrith, Macquarie Centre, Lidcombe/Auburn. I personally know each of these stores are included in the sale and will have some other AMAZING prices on numerous items that are not mentioned in this thread.

          Keep your eyes peeled everyone!

        • @Jayskies what about the Sydney City DSE store on George Street?

  • +2

    Sigh, either:
    A) This is just a joke and no cheap games for me, or
    B) Everything is sold in a matter of seconds and no cheap games for me.

  • +2

Only an idiot wouldn't be suspicious, I cant understand why their are so many sour grape comments already

    • +2

the few good deals in the past 6 months have all been errors of some kind. And now again a legit looking deal turns up, why wouldn't there be any suspicion

    • +1

Yeah, it makes perfect sense to whine about things that may or may not happen. Get in early with the whining! It's the Ozbargain way.

      • +2

would these whines go well with my $200 netbook?

  • +1

It's a good deal, but i can guarantee it will be a rush at the door and i won't get anything :P

    From Kotaku;

Did the same as oldtimer too, hardly anything listed is available anyway. So I think all they are really doing is fooling people into coming into the store in the hopes >they’ll buy something else.

That’s a type of fraud. It’s called bait-and-switch. You can’t advertise a product at a really low price and then convince customers to buy something else.

That’s why they’re not advertising it, so they can’t get sued

    What do u guys think???

    • +5

There was originally going to be an advert for the clearance sale in the next catalogue, now with price list being leaked, it may change how it will be advertised. But it will definitely be advertised on the website.

Word of advice, the prices will go down on Monday, however do not expect to see any games marked down early in the morning.

Staff have to prepare and ticket all the items, which may take a couple of hours depending on the store.

One final word of advice, do not expect to get everything you want, this is a clearance sale, and being a clearance sale, stock will be limited, especially on the consoles.

Here's hoping you all get at least something worthwhile on Monday!

      • +1

If staff haven't marked down the price yet, does it stay at the same price until they do? Or will the clearance prices override at the counter?

Also, is it likely all the DSE employees will buy up the good stuff first? Just wondering.

    • first thing i thought was that.
most will miss out yet thousands will go and be drawn into their stores.

  • some people are saying it is being moved to the 11th because the prices were leaked.
does that mean now that it will go back further because that has been leaked also lol.

Although they are using the same info we have been provided with, so could still be fake.

  • +1

FFS - I need my money goddamit!!!

  • 11,451 clicks - this is going to be fun on Monday morning :)

  • So can we get a confirmation from a rep if this sale will be at all the stores or only selected ones?

    • It will be all stores.

The document was sent to all stores. I've gone over it countless times, and nowhere does it say selected stores.

  • +2

It might be worth be noting that the sale is both in-store and online in the description so that we don't get more asking in the comments.

  • +1

The online store will crash and there will be riots in the stores.

    God help us all.

Seriously, games for $1? How is this not going to sell out. One person will buy it all.

  • +1

Yeah if this is legit it's going to be absolute pandemonium, I'm pretty sceptical though.

  • Is there going to be a limit on how many DSi's people can buy? I legitimately want 3 for gift giving purposes.

    • +1

Be reasonable and leave some for others. I do not believe that each store will have hundreds of consoles for sale, maybe 5 is more likely.

      • They would be taken by the staff.

  • can't seem to find the "MW3 Ear Force Delta XP500" on DSE website. is this product available at DSE?

    • Can't find it either.

  • Can someone confirm whether we can get these prices online at midnight sunday? or is it 8am monday?

  • +1

not many of products available online when you type in SKU

  • let's wait and see…
all I know is that me (and my friends) didnt buy anything from HN since we say this post…

  • my head hurts from reading all the comments. can we order full priced item online on saturday for instore collection, product gets picked, then roll in monday and buy it for reduced price? coz that would be nice.

    • It would be…

    • +3

The T&C on Pick and Collect says that you are agreeing to purchase the product at the price when you "Click" it. So you are ordering a product at $200, not the discounted $40 come Monday so this wont work. You will have to cancel it and then I'm sure you will have to go to back of the line

      • +1

Hopefully! I checked last night and there was a bunch of items that I wanted in stock. Checked this morning and most are listed as out of stock, presumably reserved by Click & Collect people.

  • cant seem to find donkey kong country returns bugger

  • +1

    We need answers dammit!

  • +2

Only thing I'm gonna try for is the G19 keyboard. Don't wanna be too greedy.

  • +7

I want the Nintendo 64, WHERE IS IT? Its' not on the list. Shame on DSE.

    • +1

Omg I want the rumble pak + the expansion pak so I can finally play perfect dark.

  • Lol @ people wanting to order online… lets just say it'll work out like mwaves router deal if you do

  • I predict everything sold out at DSE website and stores at 8.05am and 9.05am. lol. The staff will snap up the consoles + DS's anyway. It'll only be games left over.

  • +2

Any items on the clearance list, that are not listed on our website, indicates that it is discontinued/quit stock, and that (realistically) very few stores may have a copy or two laying around somewhere.

    • hey can we check how much stock a store has using click and collect

      • Only if the item is listed on the website, which is appearing difficult.

Realistically, only option is to be there on the day.. Seeing as it's old stock, the quantities are most likely going to be wrong anyway.

        • +1

Old stock (Disco and especially Quit) is usually not on the website. There are exceptions but it stops people calling in "Hi do you have <some 2009 model TV> you've got listed on your website for $10?"

That said, stock levels (if you ask a store) are usually accurate.

        • You can also call your local store(s) and check stock levels of the items you want

  • +2

Are there limits as to how many items people can purchase?

    • -4

      Any number times 500.
