    • The Harvey Norman sale (while not exactly like this one) had you limited to TWO items per order (i made three orders to get items) i was advised by staff to limit it to two items per order as if you went over that the order would go through, but it would then be rejected…

moral of the story: make sure you read the terms and conditions otherwise you will find your order may be revoked and you will have nothing.

      broden?

      Asshole?

  • Without getting busted for 'pretending to work' whilst scouring quickly through ozcrazypeoplebargain comments, has anyone clarified if the date has actually been pushed back to the 11th?

My local store said they were boxing all the good gear up for the sale starting on Monday 11th…confirm/deny?

In any case, look forward to the bargain moshpits! :-P

    • monday the 11th isnt due for two months… so unless they are boxing stock up for June (and losing profits by shelf times) i doubt it mate :)

      • Ha! See, work and play never mix… :-) They indicated Easter Monday, 9th

  • +4

This is gonna just be like a COTD catchathon where on the hour you're lucky if you get thru. Come Monday morning 8am, the website is gonna get smashed and IF it stays up due to the traffic, you'll be lucky to get speeds of 1kbs and frustrations of pages not loading properly - It has trainwreck written all over it.

  • I dont play any games, is there anything of use for me to buy?

    • Trollololol?

If not, take some time to read the list.. there's mice, keyboards and headphones… all of which can be used for stuff other than gaming.

      • No? I dont play games (havent for years, dont have the time), only games I play are on my Phone (not iPhone) and some flash games.

Suppose some of the keybaords and mouses are ok but yeah.

I'll you guys buy all the bargains this time.

  • I just came from 2 DSE shop in Brisbane CBD and they told me that it is on April 11.

    • +1

My boss just called local DSE stores in Brisbane and was confirmed April 11 as well.

    • +8

Was about to post that :P -> looks like most OzBargainer's original "click and collect" plans have been ruined ;-)

    • its k - can't reserve stock….unless your staff O_O?

  • Ok so just so i can wrap my head around this, ok say i wanted to buy the turtle beach XP500 headset, now on the wedsite at present it says that you can only get it in store you cant buy it online but all the stores in my area have had to send them to other stores, SO are you going ot be able to purchase these online on monday or no?

  • +8

    just visted our local DSE…

    Q1 is the sale real…
    A. Yes

Q2 when where how & what time.
    A. Wednesday april 11th, all stores, click collect (but not all items are online), 8am, limited customer no's allowed into store at anyone time (to reduce OH&S, panic).

Q3 is the list on the net comprehensive?
    A. No there is more stock that wasn't leaked, about 2 pages.

Q4 so no sale on the 2nd?
    A. No the memo was in store only & sale is to be advertised from monday 9th onwards. this allowed managers to roster on more staff for the sale.. the 2 who leaked the list got the arse & are awaiting to see if the police are going to be brought into it!!

Q5 so if I want a 250gb Xbox 360 slim & you have them in stock & in store are staff going to get preference??
    A. No staff have been told no hording items, but some products are not being added to the sale.. eg limited ed starwars xbox bundle (at this stage). Also there is alot not avaliable online…

Q6. can I order & click collect from 12am monday morning??
    A. yes but not all items are avaliable online & are different from store to store. also low no items stocked wont allow click collect, eg 4gb slim xbox, as they only have 2 in stock atm, but that may change.

extra note.. the sale may be cancelled due to the early release of the info. I was told just to drop back in & ask at the end of next week or wait to see if I get a email or see advertising…

PS this was from the store manager & she was very helpful & even went beyond what was needed (check to see if the starwars consul was apart of the sale)..

    • Like I said earlier, 2 DSE shops in Brisbane told me it was April 11. The DSE facebook which they posted about 30min ago says it is April 2. Looks like they have decided to continue with the sale. One of the DSE shop I visited told me that all the nintendo DSI are all reserved, the sales person took it out of the shelf and brought it to the back. So I am not sure how people can reserve this and pick it up on Monday.

      • +6

I was also there when Judy (Store Manager, Queens St, Brisbane) took 5 or 6 DSi's from the shelf to the back room. I later spoke to her on the phone and she told me that all DSi's were sold out. I told her i was in the store where she removed the DSi's for sale. She became very defensive and said i was 'mistaken'.
It appears as though staff are hoarding products…It wouldn't surprise me if they are also deliberately giving false info re the sale start date…

    • +2

Seems different to what was posted on the official facebook page. Weird…

  • Strictly limited indeed.
I went to the DSE store closest to work and they had none of the peripherals I wanted in stock.
I asked which store has it and they mentioned the store so I decided to call them up.
The guy on the other end sounded hesitant and told me it's discontinued stock and asked again if I wanted the 'new version'. I said no and I wanted to hold the item that I was told is in their store. He must've got a call about this item earlier today because he was quick to say he couldn't find it and whether I called before.
Then I asked for another item which I knew they had 3 in stock. He put me on hold to find those 3 items. Came back apologising saying that he couldn't find any of those 3, probably miscounted inventory or stolen.

    Thoughts?

    • They would have been given the list and told not to hold any items on the list, or maybe he "couldnt find them" (as they were just put on hold online) the time he would have taken to go to the list and look the items up, or ask the manager who would have told him it was on the list would also be relevant..

maybe he was an idiot, or maybe he wasnt and the item isnt in store. many answers, all speculation

      • +1

I agree it's all speculation. If someone happened to call before me then I should've asked him to check the 'on hold' section. Tough fight to find good deals.

  • Are stores getting new stock distributed to them for the sale (including redistribution of stock between stores), or is the sale for only the stock that they currently have?

  • -2

    Just heard,

    Online store opens at 8am
not sure about delivery though there is always the free click and collect option

    • +2

Click and Collect is not an option for this sale. It has already been stated.

    • +1
      • Click and Collect will not be available and stores will not be able to reserve stock
      • So i guess its first in first serve

      • So there is no point going online for this sale then?

        • Well some (not all) items are actually available online, so some yes you could try your luck to get. Most will only be in store.

        • All the items I see online dont have delivery, only click & collect so I guess online is a no go for me

  • Sorry but im lost, is this big sale on 2nd or the 11th?

Online starts at 8am and instore when store opens 830-9am?

  • so is it the 2nd or 11th??

  • From their official FB page

    • might want to paste this in the description

  • -2

I'd be laughing if they just canceld the whole sale, and moved it few months later.

    • +4

      I wouldn't I'd find it quite annoying tbh…

  • +1

So likelihood, a lot of disappointed people as there is hardly any stock of these instore (hence the "clearance" in the sale name) ;-)

  • +1

I know a lot of store employees are saying the 11th, but this seems peculiar considering the facebook/twitter say the 2nd. However, it does sound like they are already taking the best stuff off the shelves. Come Monday (or whenever the sale is), I doubt there will be a lot left besides software games :(

  • -3

If you really wanted this, I'm just gonna exploit another thing.

Buy it now, and refund it on the day, and then rebuy it when it's cheaper on the sale. best of luck :)

    • +1

how are you gonna be able to rebuy the same item?
once its returned its returned, back of the queue mate.

    • -2

      effing genius!
      well done mate :)

  • +1

most of the consoles and good stuff instore have already been set aside by DSE staff for themselves from what I hear. Looks like they got first dibs. There might be a couple of games instore, but thats about it. Don't get your hopes up.

  • +4

Selection of PC games at Dick Smith is rubbish. All you'll ever find is the Sims and WoW - as if they think this is all PC gamers play. Oh, and an outdated box for Max Payne 3 showing "March 2012" release date. lol. No Starcraft II to be seen at all. Pathetic.

  • +3

Called several stores in WA all confirmed the 2nd, along with FB, Twitter and DS rep on here.

Dunno maybe people are trying to better their chances by spamming that will be the 11th.

I know what I will be doing tomorrow, hitting up some stores to access stock levels

  • +12

ive already hidden the box for the games i want at Innaloo dick smith so im ready

    • lol

    • +16

That explains why there were game cases in the fridge I just bought from there.

  • +5

I have a feeling this is going to end in tears similar to recent "too good to be true" OzBargains such as http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/61321 and http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/65184.

To all Ozbargainers I would STRONGLY advise holding back your positive vote until the outcome of this is known!!!

  • +2

    I just want a new PS3 controller. What's a guy to do?

    • +1

Order it from the UK where it's cheaper?

  • +12

Camping out infront of store night before. If its false I will be stealing a TV From their store along with a bunch of my friends. Keep a watch on the news if it is false.

  • -3

I have called head office and they confirm this is the 11th :)

  • +10

Visited the DSE in Queen St mall (Brisbane) this afternoon. Asked briefly about the sale and what kind of stock levels they have on consoles, etc…guy told me that most of the console stock is already gone.. I said, how can it be gone already before the sale begins. His reply, Staff get first dibs on the sale…. Pretty unreasonable if you ask me. There should be a separate (or earlier) Staff sale for this. If your going to have all your staff hoarding stock why bother with a sale that will only leave a sour taste in your customer's mouths.

    • +1

Most people know DSE has had bad customer service in the last few years, there's a reason so many stores are closing.

      • +1

I checked my recent DSE and the shelves are close to empty already, very poor but can understand the staff would do this.

    • They should sack all these staff that keeps it for themselves. I was also at DSE in Queen st mall and saw the staff remove all the DSI and told us that it has all been reserved.

    • The only thing that the staff member has done wrong is told you that they're keeping stock for themselves. Dumb move by the staff member.

    • +1

But from monaro202's comment above (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66808?page=4#comment-812258)
Apparently staff arent allowed to hord items. Maybe you could call up that managers boss! Show him who's the boss!

    • +4

I think the fact that their stores are closing down might entitle the staff to get a little something back.

      • +5

Yeahhhhh… no. As far as I'm concerned, good riddance to the staff that are doing this. If they want to be buying this stuff, they should be lining up on the Monday morning as well like all the regular customers. "First dibs" is not a perk of the job like staff discounts are; it's people taking advantage of their workplace in the name of greed. In fact, you'll probably find that staff technically aren't allowed to reserve stock for themselves. In my workplace, that results in disciplinary action and can lead to employment termination.

  • My local DSE didn't know a whole lot but suggested they may get something by or before Monday but he couldn't be certain. I rang the Toowoomba DSE, the guy should be a credit to their store he was very helpful despite probably been asked the same question all day. But he said they have none of the cheap PSP or xbox consoles in stock. It sounds like they really do have LIMITED stock. It's not bad advertisement though, only have two xbox's that are $100 in all of QLD but yet everyone rocks up to their stores hoping to get one but given the hype and amount of people in the store the ones that don't have the shits may purchase items as an impulse buy. I live in Kingaroy, think I'll just check out my little store and see what's available. I just want the 360 or a PSP !

  • lol @ people trying to confuse others by saying its on the 11th.

  • +19

    Man, this is SUCH bullshit.

I checked yesterday online, and there was stock of the DSi.

Checked again now - and its all gone in every store in Melbourne.

You have to expect the staff are hoarding it, i mean why would you not?

They would have EASILY sold all of them at $100, but at $20, even $50 its just scalpers material.

Most of the $1 games will probably be cleared out as well.

Oh well, no point crying over what I don't have anyway.

    • +10

      +1 for your last point.

  • +2

Pretty sad to hear that staff are grabbing everything worth taking. Not even sure I could be bothered to go on Monday.

    • +3

this, I was checking PS3 stock in 3 shops near me, now only two shops have it in stock. They sold 3 PS3 bundles in the span of 3 hours. BullShit

      • +9

Dude, you live in Canberra. Its probably walking distance to all three stores? lololol

      • I am not a staff member and have no knowledge of how the store operates.

        BUT.

If you "Click and collect" on a particular item, it WILL affect the online 'In store availability' automatically. So it's most likely that.

        • From page 4:

I work at DS but am not speaking on behalf of them. This is the first I've heard of this sale but I'm only a weekend casual so I don't really find things out until the weekends :P

To sort of answer the click and collect question: Let's say you go online and check stock of a product. If the item has a few in stock, you can place an order, if there's 1 or 2 (I think the number differs between different types of products) it will tell you that stock is low and you can't put an order in online, you'd then need to ring up to manually get us to put one aside.

Now when you put the order in, it doesn't come up instantly in store. We once put in a click and collect from the store computer and it took maybe 10 odd minutes to show up in the system. I'm assuming it's done as a batch process. When it does show up, we basically get a little notice on our system that a new click and collect has come in. We click on it and we can see what the item(s) are and it changes the status transaction status to "picking" where we go grab the items off the shop floor/from the back and put them aside with a little note on them. If for whatever reason we can't do that (such as the xbox you ordered just got sold, or for some reason the item isn't in perfect condition) we've got all your details so we can call you up and say "Hey sorry but we can't fill your click and collect." So unless someone stuffs up, there shouldn't be a reason that anyone would pick up a product and be denied it because of a C+C.

        • +2

Yes. Its been said that those orders will not be available on Monday. It also says in the T&C that once you go through click and collect you agree to pay for the full amount of the item on the date you reserve it. I assume people are trying this and its why stock levels are depleting so quickly. Boy are they going to get a surprise Monday morning.

        • Yeah but there are two possibilities what happened here.

          • Staff reserve the stock either by putting it at the back or using click and collect and then putting at the back reserved for them.

          • Someone reserves the stock using click and collect and somehow the staff gives it to them at the discounted price. Even if they don't stock is on hold till the customer comes to get itm, so I won't be able to buy the item.

When I go monday morning 9AM sharp, the store won't have the stock I need hence first in best dressed doesn't work with the click and collect system. Either way I lose out :(

        • Yes but in the true spirit of OzBargain. Nobody who tried hard enough ever missed out

        • +1

@spawnpoint - that is what i imagine is happening… if thats the system… then so be it… but its a very crappy sale…. pretty much just like catch of the day.

  • Was told without doubt by sales drone in Elizabeth St (Brisbane) store that no stock can be put on hold as their store is closing down. I'm keen on a couple of games and some accessories. Just wish the date confusion would be once and for all sorted.

    • I doubt they would be 100% truthful. ;)

      • Well knowing that they put stuff on hold for a mate of mine earlier in the morning, yeh… dubious. But drone insisted that "orders have come down from head office that we're not to hold anything" blah blah.

  • +5

Well, the DSE close to me still has stock for the DSi. Here's hoping the staff don't clean the shelves before Monday morning.

  • +1

hmm…some odd things happening with all this stock disappearing online prematurely. maybe it is the way DSE does it for a stock clearance.

    • Was thinking the same thing today.

    • +17

Hope you have the $$ to fork out full RRP on them!

    • +9

you are an asshole. I don't live in Adelaide but if I did, I would hang around the main Dick Smiths there and kick your ass if I see someone buying 20 dsis.

Seriously ozbargain is about getting good bargains not putting it on fleabay. This is why I want ozbargain to be private.

      • +5

lol and the membership requirements to be what? Paid access? Or maybe keyboard warriors only…

      • hence my post about making it private !

    • +4

Everyone should stop blaming staff for putting stock aside, it's this dick who's reserving it all.

    • In all honesty though, what's stopping people from buying now and then returning them on April 2nd? If the sales on, they'll be able to get a refund on 20 DSi's. If not, they'll still be able to get a refund for 20 DSi's @ RRP.

      • +1

Well maybe since DS changed their returns policy, they now 'do not normally accept return of goods where you have simply changed your mind.'=) So play fair to other OZBargainers. Think if you were the one wanting to buy ONE item, only to find the guy before you walked out with 20 of them.

    • I hope you dont "trip over" carrying all those after walking out the store! ;)

      • +1

        assault and battery? lol

    • zzz

  • +1

Has the Dick Smith Rep confirmed the prices of this Sale or copped out?

  • So my local store opens at 9 on Monday, and has stock of all the items I want according to the website, what time should I start lining up? lol

    • if you're getting a dsi.. good luck the asshole dweebz reserved 20 already
