I don't think a line is going to do anything really. Unless you know exactly where each product is in the store, its kinda pointless. Maybe go there on Sunday and snoop around?

  • Hope people understand that the sale is only on older items.

New xbox/ps3 bundles will be the $300-400. and the older bundles- you might find a few in a whole state.
    same with xbox 12month memberships.

i know my store has nothing good.

for example: the xbox360 play and charge kit it the OLD one. if you saw one in the store last week that one is not it.

  • Will be wearing my big boots ready for an epic trample to get to the $100 xbox's. I feel some mass hysteria will be coming.

    • +5

I'll wear my bike helmet and bring a baseball bat to fend off the hordes of bargainers.

      • +5

I'll simply down as many baked beans and eggs as I can on Sunday night.

        • +3

^ drops more bass than Skrillex

        • +4

          ^ all of the above

Still a better love story than twilight

    • +1

You may have a better chance finding one if you bring a sniffer dog or maybe a psychic.

  • +5

no matter what happens monday, we'll still have a better ending than mass effect 3 :P

  • +11

Oh FFS, seriously how the can staff be allowed to reserve items before customers?

I hope the Chinese buy these fools up and turn each remaining branch into a 18-hour a day sweatshop with a Soviet Commissar cracking a Cat o' nine tails over people's backs.

  • So even before the sale, has -anyone- been able to find one store with an eligible XBox360 for full price even?!

I haven't. Staff say those ones went along time ago and with ones they have been getting are Kinect bundles.

  • +5

So I've just been given some info from a friend who works at a large Dick Smith: Pretty much everything good available has been bought by the staff - and he says this is pretty much happening at the Perth stores he knows of. There won't be any of the consoles left and the games will be the shovelware no one else wants.

So that's a hefty does of bullshit and some seriously poor form.

EDIT: Ah I see it's already been brought up. Still bullshit.

  • +11

No ozbargainer will get anything worthwhile on Monday.

    • +8

I believe you're correct, this is giving them a loophole around ACCC laws about stock amounts for advertising and we shouldn't support this. Until the rep can state that there will be at least 10 consoles per state that ARENT taken by staff this shouldn't be encouraged.

      • -5

BertTom, April fools day is tomorrow, not today

        • It seems there are schmoofties on the loose, ohh noes!!

    • -8

I'm wondering why your bothering to even visit the OzBargain website if you can predict the future.

    • +1

I hate to say it, but: "I told you so".

  • +2

I asked at a few local stores. One of them was nice enough to show me the list (which looked a lot like the one that was leaked), and even looked up a few of the codes to see if any stores had stock (like the XBOX360 console for $100, etc.) - nope. Most of the decent items are either not available in any store, or staff have already set them aside (as others have suggested).

  • +7

I'm hoping to just pick up a few games. Not interested in the consoles, but still don't have high hopes. Still gotta be in it to win it :-)

  • with exception of consoles these seem to be price drops , and not actual sale prices. the sheet of paper even says price drop.

    • +1

No, the title is Price Drops. See the column "Sale Price"? It indicates the price that the item has dropped to.

  • +6

Don't know why DSE bother putting non existence stock on sale.

I can see this is going to go down badly like the MWave deal.

Dicky's 7 million dollar phantom sale.

  • One thing's for sure. There are gonna be a bunch of happy and sore dicks Monday afternoon.

    • +4

Who's waiting for Monday arvo? :-P

      • -1

That's after they run around like like d!cks chasing stocks.

  • +4

This is just Dick Smith's ploy to get the ozbargain community to do stocktake for them.

  • +1

Poor form on Dickies part to allow staff to take first dibs. I know a guy who works for hardly normals and they are not permitted to take advantage of any big/fire sales as stock needs to be left for customers.

    • +1

Expect to see stocks being offloaded on eBay.

    • +1

as if… harvey norman staff were the first to buy the touchpads during the firesale. the only reason i got one was because they got caught unaware by the sudden sale.

  • +1

Thank god I'm now on school holidays :)
If anyone lives near Ballina (northern NSW) there are the $100 Xbox 360's there. It says in stock online so I'm assuming there's a few.

  • +14

might as well call it staff sale

    • +5

There should be staff restrictions in place. Staff should have to line up to get the items, not be able to put them at the back beforehand

  • Oh dear, I just checked the stock levels of consoles and they've taken down the 'click and collect' so I guess the deal is on with 'no click and collect' reservations. =}

    • The were "click and collect" status before the list was leaked…

      • +3

good riddance though, hate to see people reserving stock before

      • I tried click and collect yesterday, on $500+ (current price) of items. The store rang to check that I really wanted them, and told me that click and collect items are only held for 48 hours.

I told her that I'd do it on Sunday, then, and she rang me again five minutes later to say the manager had said they wouldn't permit click and collect for this sale.

So I went to plan B, and booked my calendar to duck out of the office at 8.50am Monday. Which was fine, until my boss booked a meeting for 9am:(.

        • +1

your boss probably wants to know why you spent all of Friday browsing the dicks myth web site! Have a sickie, it is the Australian thing to do!

        • -5

@youknow, as a matter of fact I was at home. I don't work on Fridays due to a long-term health condition. Anything else you'd like to know, or would care to criticise me about without having a clue?

  • enquired at my local Dick, was told by manager SOME games will be on sale Monday and the remainder will be on sale on the 11th. She would not let me know what games will be on sale when, was told i have to come in Monday to see.

  • Burleigh and Robina DSE have no consoles and not that many games, off to helensvale Monday!

    • Going on a scouting mission to Helensvale tomorrow.

      • Mermaid is no good

I'm gonna head up to the powerhouse store near Logan it's massive!!

  • Ive noticed a lot of the products that were available for delivery online have been moved to not being available online, so the online sale may not be worth even looking at.

    • Plus they have disabled the "click and collect" function for the clearance items listed on the website.

  • Sorry if this has been asked and maybe answered….

Will the online prices be changed on the DSE website for all to see?

Im starting to think it wont be worth even bothering with trying to buy stuff online anyway. Might just take a chance at the local store and try my luck.

    • Online prices change at 8am monday. Expect the website to crash :P

  • +1

If there's nothing left on Monday, this is SCAM!

  • +3

As much as I would like some of these bargains, I think I will give it a miss. I just don't think there will be any of the good stuff available. At these prices the staff will have bought everything decent.

  • +1

not going to bother lining up. There is hardly any stock in store, and it'll be packed. Is it really worth it to for 2 or 3 games - depending on if you are first in line.

Online wise, everything has click and collect and home delivery disabled. I only found one thing I want I can get shipped. So meh, if I can get that one game I guess i'll be happy.

  • Called my local - they have 3 of the games I want, and I was told I couldn't put them on hold because of a huge sale starting on MONDAY (2nd April). Well, let's see if they'll still be there when I turn up HAHA, sure :p

  • +16

To everyone actually lining up on Monday: 'May the odds be ever in your favour.'

    • +2

If anyone kills me, I'll haunt you.
I'll be the poltergeist who effs up all your multiplayer games…

    • +1

I see what you did there..

      • +4

The Cornucopia = Dick Smith store
The Careers = Dick Smith staff

    • +1

People of Ozbargain, We fight, we dare, we end our hunger for justice and bargains

  • Went into my local DSE today.

Everything good is gone. Staff said they just stashed it all in the back and are dividing it up amongst themselves…

    • Doesn't seem fair that they're doing this. I'm doubtful I'll even bother with this sale the DS we have here are pretty crap.

    • +3

Well, at least they were forthcoming. Harvey Norman handled their sale much better in my opinion.

      http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3ok1kq/

    • +3

I also bet they gave you the finger as you left too. Brand management and creation of customer loyalty - FAIL.

    • +3

I was happy to hear their honestly tbh. Can't blame them.
I imagine there might be some games left but no consoles/keyboard/mice/headets.

      • +6

Guess so, at least we know the staff will have plenty of games to play when they are all unemployed in six months LOL.

        • How many retail stores does Woolworths limited have again?

  • +4

I think the only way around this is to print off a few resumes and visit a few stores to get a job there starting first up monday. Lol.. I can't blame the staff for hording stuff. Let's face it, in that situation, wouldnt we all do the same.

    • +6

The real failure resides with top level management. Staff shouldn't be allowed to hoard in the first place.

    • True, I worked in Colorado before it closed down. WE weren't allowed to hoard anything for ourselves. They didn't even let staff buy anything on the last day AND there was someone from HQ monitoring this. That said you could ask your friends to buy for you if no one got to it first.

      • +3

Well that's a massive dick move.

When the company I worked for got sold, they had to clear out a shitload of PC gear, at way below cost. All staff were given first dibs. Even at a warehouse clearance sale we were allowed to check what was on offer first, and write up invoices before the sale started.

From the companies perspective, it should be staff > everyone else.

        • +4

yeah but given how the closing was massively advertised(like here) it makes sense for the public to be the same as staff.

This is the same as you going into Dick Smith, find a great hard drive deal and go to the counter. The cashier realises this is a great deal and tells you " Oh sorry, someone has already reserved this, we won't be able to sell you" and then proceeds to buy it him/herself. Not the best analogy but its sort of like stealing, if the staff get dibs

  • +2

Must admit this is an epic fail.

Hats off to Harvey Norman and their sale!!

  • +7

Not worth the effort to line up when all the good stock has been taken by staff…..

  • +1

    Talked to salesman today
Only 9 Xbox's in the whole of Victoria left ;(

    • lol that puts this sale into perspective ;-)

    • No Xbox or ps3's on the gold coast

      • Did U call Burleigh?

Edit: read your comment above :(

        • I've done all gold coast stores now and nutta, I'm going to Logan powerhouse store they have loads of games and I'm hearing some consoles from when I rang and asked.

    • Only 9 Xbox's in the whole of Victoria left ???

  • haha for any of you lucky enough to score the XBox360 accessories there is also this current promo :P http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Community/promotions/cashback/home

  • Wait so is this happening on the 2nd or the 11th? I've read so many different things now.

  • +16

Dick smith staff stole all the goods.

  • +8

Dick smith staff stole all the goods in my area toooo

  • i saw the stuff available its the $1 Pc games and some ps3 games eg skateboarding, vanquish, fifa 10, rockband etc pretty waste of time they just marking down some of the games and the good stuff staff r keepin em

  • +10

This sale is so stupid. It's more like a staff sale than a public sale. The public just gets the leftovers… If any that is. This sale is an Epic Fail. I wouldnt waste my time on this..

  • +1

Called Dick Smith, they said NO stock on 360's in PERTH.. only one available.. and it's at Bunbury!

    • +1

A real OzBargainer would drive that distance to buy it :P

      • +1

A real OzBargainer would save on petrol & walk there…or run like Gump…

    • +1

Haha I'm in Bunbury, thanks for the heads up!
Of course, staff will have nabbed it for sure.

  • Man, this is sounding sadder and sadder.

Its going to be very interesting to see what everyone ends up with. Im going to try thats for sure :)

  • Still going to try. Why not?

    • Thats right why not, you never know your luck :)

  • gonna try and grab what I can furs online and then head instore at 9.

    • +2

…alas I'm sure the staff will have got there furs.

      ;D

  • +2

The cynical side of me thinks that this is Dick Smith's way of saying : "F! you for not supporting local industry and shopping online form overseas stores instead" by letting their staff get first dibs at the deals.

The Elizabeth St (Brisbane) store is looking slim. Not sure I wanna try now, esp after their staff told me that the sale is on the 11th rather than the 2nd. Seems the staff just wanna keep the good stuff for themselves.

    • +1

If you mean Dick Smith The Person, then you are incorrect. He hasn't owned DSE for years..

This is Woolworths going "Screw you guys, I'm going home!" .. No wait, that's Cartman. =/

      • Should have been DSE instead of Dick Smith… the problem when people put their name to a brand.

  • Dicksmith.com.au search function has been ozbargained…

    EDIT:

    the whole website is ozbargained…

  • +2

Dick Smith staff are the worst ever. Not only are they rude and incompetent, now they are hoarding everything from end users.

    • +7

Well, they'll probably lose their jobs soon anyway.

  • +3

If they're losing their jobs then we shouldn't be feeling bad about them hoarding all the deals :/

    • +2

Or it's this sort of behaviour that could partially explain why they're losing their jobs in the first place. Realistically, DSE should have had a staff only sale at first and then left the remaining stock for the masses. Raising customer expectations beyond what is delivered is never good.
