Issue Booting Newly Built PC (D6 Code)

Hi OZB Brainstrust, I require your assistance. I put together a PC just today with the following specs

I7 11700K
Asus ROG Z590-E
G.Skill TridentZ Neo F4-360014D-32GTZN
MSI GTX 1070 Gaming 8GB (reusing this GPU from previous system)
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB

Put the rig together with no issues but when powering it up the Q code on the mobo keeps throwing a “D6” message with no display. Looked it up in the manual and the (typically bad) Asus description says “No Console Output Devices are found”.

Did some digging online and all are referring to it being an issue with the GPU however the card works perfectly in an older/different system.

All cables and connections are seated right (I did reseat them) and also, just in case, reseated RAM but that didn’t do anything.

Was wondering if anyone had some pointers for me or if they’ve run into a similar issue?

Cheers!

Plug HDMI cable into the motherboard rather than the GPU.
Once booted, install/update latest GPU drivers.
Switch off, ensure BIOS is set to only use PCI Graphics.
Plug HDMI into GPU, switch monitor on first, boot back up.

    See if that helps.

    • Further to this, if it does boot using onboard but you cant get the GPU to work after the nvidia driver install, you can run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to clear drivers and install the nvidia drivers again

  • Is it upset cause it doesnt have drivers….??

Few yr ago I had to setup a PC with the onboard VGA to get anything/windows started - then once windows was installed, swapped to the other GPU and it worked

  • If it might be GPU related, does the PC run using the onboard graphics? Eg unplug the GPU and plug your monitor to the Mobo output.

F me crew, absolute rookie/potato move. The god damn display cable was slightly disconnected from the monitor (must have come loose while I was faffing around with it).

All works good now lol. I guess even after 20 years of building and working on PC’s we have those moments haha.

It's the easy fixes that are the best.
