i've always wondered who buys furniture from places like DJ/HN at full price.

    • +23

Can’t afford furniture but at least I have 10,000 eneloops

      • +1

you could prob arrange them into a sofa

    • Where is a good place to buy furniture?

      • -5

        nick scali :)

        • +9

ah the perpetual half price sales

        • is this legit? Looking to purchase something for parents new place

          • +1

@geshc: @geshc: Yea nick is my friend when it comes to sofa. Only get it at 50% off sales thou

          • @geshc: I guess it depends on your budget. My 3 seater with a chaise from Harvey Norman was about $1300 on sale in 2009. Still going strong and still looks good. If your parents are going to get pets or have small kids around don’t go crazy on a lounge that could get damaged or dirty.

            • @D1977: Around your price too. Looking for 3 seater for up to $1500-$2000 (if can be found under, then fantastic!).

              • @geshc: Try Amart or Fantastic Furniture. Lots on their website on sale at the moment. Look for a long warranty on the frame. Mine had a 10 year warranty on the frame.

            • @D1977: Got my 3.5 seater from HN for $1003+50 delivery. But it's a return stock which is too big and can't get into the lift.

        • +1

Not in our case. Parents bought a leather sofa years back, over 3k on sale you'd expect something that expensive to be good.. right? They had it in a room no one used for a couple years then when we started sitting on it, within a month or two the cushion you sit on deformed/kind of flopped out. No one's over 80kg so weight was not an issue. Obviously out of warranty. Since then i've deterred as many people as I can from nick scalli

          • +1

@johnnytran: Not out of ACL…. considering price paid, you would expect years of service, so you can claim

            • @TimOfEastBNE: It's been too long (probably over 10 years, had no idea about ACL back then)

        • Nic scali's stuff is actually pretty good
Their business model is smart though that most things are made to order so they rarely have clearances
Although the wait times are 3 months on custom sofas

      • +4

        IKEA

      • -5

At the risk of getting abused… Harvey Norman… big range, with many Aussie options (quicker delivery, better warranty) at a decent price. You can always pick the one you want and call around until a store proprietor does the deal you want. Also their furniture warranty is good if you have kids that own textas.
        Ex staff.

        • Their furniture is usually hideous though.

      • Living Edge

        • +3

Ha, the price will definitely push me off the edge.

      • Brought a sofa from freedom. Quite happy with it

      • gumtree. 90% of them are free

  • +5

Click and collect not available, is it available for anyone?
It says not available for this item and add an extra $195 for delivery so more like $1,443 total for the 2.5 seater (probably good idea to + delivery to the post title), which for a malt leather product seems a bit of a deal (maybe worth $2,000 elsewhere but $5.5k seems a bit off).

  • If only it was brown/red…

  • +5

'This item is not available for gift wrap.'

    Thanks for telling me…

Assuming the sofa costs $500 to manufacture and ship here, that's almost a 1000% profit margin at full price…

    • +13

Is this a number just plucked completely from thin air to be mad about margin?

      • Not mad about margin, just wondering how their business model works. I'm assuming that they earn from high profit margins instead of by volume given the premium product that is affordable only for the wealthier middle class market.

I'm not an expert on furniture so yeah, the number is plucked out of thin air to make my point. You are welcome to make your own guess but I suppose we may never know the true figure.

    • +8

Assuming the sofa costs $5000 to manufacture and ship here, that's almost a 75.05% loss margin at sale price…

      • +3

I guess you could just make your own and save that margin.

    • Doesn't matter what it cost to make. Unless you have the means to get it at cost it is irrelevant. Even if the cost is $1 shipped to your door it means nothing unless you can physically secure it at that price.

      • Thinking more from a business sense, it does matter. These are higher-grade premium furniture products that, based on my understanding of the industry, makes money from profit margin more so than volume. So it's interesting to hazard a guess at their profit margin at RRP.

    • Hey, if you're going to pluck numbers out of thin air, why not assume it only cost $50 to make? Or $5? Or maybe even $0.50?

      • Because just shipping alone costs more than $50. My $500 figure is pretty much plucked out of thin air with the guess that the company makes money through high profit margins. You are welcome to make your own guesses.

    I prefer camping chairs

    • Might be cheaper in store, i noticed that a lot of costco items are more expensive online than instore
I purchased a shed instore for 1800 or 1900 but on the costco site it was listed for 2400

      • +2

Because shipping is included in the online price

    • It was very comfortable imo

  • 100% this is a pricing error … Used to work for DJ's and the lounge cost more for them too buy .

    • I brought 2 of them 1 hour ago. Just got confirmation from DJ. They will let me know when been shipped.

      • +6

Where did you bring them to?

        • :-)

          • @National Skills: did you end up with 2x $100 vouchers?

            • @kenneth88: They only gave me one voucher. I'm going to email and complain in the morning.

I'm sure these guys are responsible to honour these purchases. We all received email confirming.

They even go as far as…This Order Confirmation email is your official Tax Invoice and Proof of Purchase.

Can I change or cancel my order?
Once your order is placed, we are unable to change any of the details of your order.

So how can they change it. ?

              • @National Skills: I bet it would be their T&C’s that they can change orders as they are under no obligation.

                • -1

@abc: I never agreed to there Terms and Conditions at checkout. I purchased in good faith, they took my money and received a Tax Invoice and Proof of Purchase. They have to honour. Its law.

Anyhow I've taken it up with them.

But I hear you. :-) Thankyou.

I'm just sick of companies doing this. We always honour any deals we make. Mistakes or no mistakes.

    • I added a random pair of shoes which were also "discounted in cart" and the price of the sofa jumped to $3846.50 which is 30% off the full price of $5495.00

Not sure about whether it's a price error as adding other items to the cart has no effect on the $1248.00 price.

Saw in my email that there was an "extra 10% off" deal for Rewards members which ended yesterday. So if this was an additional $124.80 off (ex del) I would be jumping on board but not too sure about it for $1443 delivered :(

    • Haha same here. Part of me hope that they would cancel my order

      • If not, here’s hoping for the 2% cashback
        Edit: $22.68 tracked (excl. GST/delivery)

      • I think they won't as I am pretty sure the 5k price was a mistake.

Used to be fantastic quality and made in Melbourne. Then the Chinese bought the company and the quality is nowhere near what it was but still expensive because of the reputation the original Moran had. At this price it's probably ok value.

I see Costco seem to have the same item, but it's not $5.5K:

    • +3

They have to ship it on a boat from China.
