Nintendo eShop to Be Closed in March 2023 for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U

https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/…

From March 2023, no new eShop purchases on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U can be made, and download codes can no longer be redeemed after that (this includes the Pokemon Game Boy cards you can find at EB Games to be redeemed on Nintendo 3DS for example). Redownloads for already purchased games can still be made though (just like on the Wii back in the day when the Wii Shop was closing).

Regarding Pokemon Bank (a way to be able to transfer your Pokemon through older generations), that will be made free, but you will need to have downloaded it before the eShop closes: https://twitter.com/SerebiiNet/status/1493768777007308800

  • End of an era.
At least they aren't pulling the plug on online servers yet
Still occasionally play Mario Kart 8 on Wii U which still has an active playerbase (also no online paywall unlike Switch)

  • +1

it's just going to drive up demand for phyiscal 3ds/Wiiu games.

  • Are people going to make the same fuzz when Sony wanted to close the PS3/PSP/PS Vita (the latter will still close) or it doesn't matter this time??

    • I Believe they should… my amazon still has records of 3ds stuff I've bought not that long ago….well 2021 anyway….

      • +1

sony already tried to close ps3 but they backtracked

afaik the xbox360 store still works

  • I know it will never happen but part of me wishes that Nintendo are doing this to carry the majority of these games to the Switch eShop.

  • If you've got the physical version of Xenoblade Chronicles X and haven't already done so, it's good idea to download the 4 High-Speed Data Loading Packs to external drive.
